he Natasha Watley Foundation (NWF) was founded in 2009 by two-time Olympic Medalist Natasha Watley to create opportunities for girls in under-served communities to learn and play the game of softball. NWF uses the medium of sport to inspire young women to reach their full potential while fostering character development and awareness of social issues that affect women. The mission of the Natasha Watley Foundation is to empower young women to make healthy lifestyle choices, develop strong self-esteem, become model student athletes, and to grow to be leaders of character through participation and training in the sport of softball.

PROGRAMS

NATASHA WATLEYSOFTBALL LEAGUE

WHAT: In 2017, the 10th Annual season, about 31 teams, 3 age divisions (10U, 12U, 16U) will participate in a softball league ran through the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks sites. NWF provides the coaching and instruction, through Coach Mentor program.

WHAT: 465 girls ages 8-16. 60% Hispanic, 40% African-American.

WHEN: Summer League (June-August) and Fall League (September-November).

WHERE: All participating LA City Parks are located in South Los Angeles district.

COACH MENTORSThe pinnacle of NWSL is the Coach Mentor component. This program matches top female scholar athletes from universities nationwide, with a local recreation center team. Each mentor is responsible for coaching softball skill, implementing NWF’s Four points of the diamond to teach life skills, providing free instructional clinics throughout the year and recruiting young girls to play. Each mentor receives hands on experience and skills in coaching, all while giving back.

SPONSORSHIPNWF sponsorships are sold on a calendar year basis and the sponsorship program is approved annually in May. Timeliness and alignment with NWF’s mission of advancing the status of young girls in softball guide all sponsorship decisions. Offers of sponsorship are received and considered on a rolling basis. However, the same sponsorship opportunity cannot be assured from year to year. NWF works closely with sponsors to identify sponsorships tailored to their interests and business priorities.
