About the Dick Purcell Spartan Classic
The Dick Purcell Spartan Classic brings together the tournaments previously held separately by the Dearden Foundation and Milton Hershey School Alumni Association. MHS strongly supports this
combined tournament to help its students and young graduates.
Dick Purcell graduated from MHS in 1961 and passed away in May 2004. Dick and his brother, Milt ’64, helped create the Dearden Foundation in an effort to assist young MHS graduates. The Dearden Foundation provides awards and leadership and character education programs to current students as well as support services to young graduates that cannot be provided by MHS.
The Milton Hershey School Alumni Association (MHSAA), representing more than 8,000 living graduates, raises funds to provide services and assistance to students and graduates of MHS. MHSAA supports numerous special activities, as well as awards that benefit students and alumni.
Funds raised by The Dick Purcell Spartan Classic will assist young graduates in ways MHS or parents and sponsors cannot.
