Cincinnati was the place to be this April, as many P&G employees andtheir families gathered for the sixth annual Su Casa HispanicCenter awards banquet. Sponsored by Procter & Gamble, the banquetwas held at the University of Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena.

This year’s program included local volunteer dancers and musicians,and a keynote address from Ricardo Moncada, vice president,human resources at XPEDX International Paper Company.

“The Su Casa Center has proven to be a valuable resource forCincinnati’s Hispanic community,” said Ingrid Rivera, P&G ER multicultural communications lead. “As communities becomemore and more diverse, P&G strives to lead by example – helpingto equip communities with the essentials needed to flourish.”

Su Casa was founded in 1997, through a grant from the P&GFund, to help new immigrants become self-sustaining and productive members of the Cincinnati community. Since its inception,Su Casa has evolved to offer programs that focus on educatingwomen about improving their health, home, and child safety anddevelopment – expanding to four locations around the city. Otherprograms include G.E.D. certification, English classes, and economicempowerment. In 2004 alone, nearly 40 students graduated fromthe G.E.D program, and this year’s enrollment, at more than double,currently exceeds 100.

Su Casa serves as a model for other agencies throughout theregion. But, its most successful collaborative effort is the housing

program. Through a partnership with US Bank, PNC Bank,National City Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank, Allstate andNationwide Insurance, the center has become a strong force ineducating consumers on the process of home ownership.

TIDE SIGNS ON AS MARQUEE SPONSOR FOR SUMMER’S FRESHEST TOURThe EBONY Black Family Reunion Tour (EBFRT) is gearing up for itsfourth consecutive season and will soon hit the road as part of anationwide effort to bring together black families in a healthy andentertaining way. And for the first time, America’s number onelaundry detergent and P&G’s billion-dollar brand, Tide® has decided tofund this initiative and will serve as a marquee sponsor for the EBFRT.

This eight-city tour is comprised of a series of free outdoorSaturday events held from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. that include excitinglifestyle activities and entertainment for the entire family. Whilerelatives participate in activities such as cooking demonstrations andhealth screenings, this year’s tour emphasizes the value of fellow-ship, the importance of spending time with loved ones andfriends, and honors African-American traditions.

“P&G has a long-standing relationship with the black community,whether through providing great products, like Tide, or great programs, like the Black Family Reunion – we want to helpimprove lives and bring families together,” said Ted Cummings,P&G NA MDO, MS&P.

During tour stops in Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles,Chicago, Detroit, Charlotte, and Atlanta – families will be treated toan “Old School” party as some of the hottest funk bands hit thestage. The Tom Joyner Morning Show radio personality MissDupree will serve as host for these sizzling concerts, which willinclude performances by Doug E. Fresh, Whodini, Con Funk Shun,and others. Local talent will also take to the stage to deliver spokenword, vocal performances, and choreographed dances.

Additionally, on July 22 Philadelphia residents will have the chanceto take part in the P&G Time Capsule Project. To further celebrateblack families and educate community members on the importanceof preserving traditions, 10 local organizations will donate itemswhich ”best represent their [the organization's] family“ for inclusionin the time capsule. A local historian will be on-hand to give commentary on each of the donated items during a VIP eveningevent. The time capsule will be presented July 23 at Philadelphia’sFairmont Park at Memorial Hall.

CINCY CINCO OFFERS A TASTE OF LATINO CULTURE

England has crumpets, and France has its famous crepes. But, inlate April, Cincinnati had a 72-foot taco… and so much more.In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the annual “Cincy Cinco” festival was held for two days in downtown Cincinnati.Sponsored by Procter & Gamble, this annual event is a celebrationof Latino culture that hopes to inform and entertain.

Designed to help educate Latinos about the resources availablewithin the Cincinnati community, Cincy Cinco educates familieson Latino culture, values, and traditions. Festivities also includedLatino art, music, food, dancing, and children’s activities.

”What a wonderful way to connect with our diverse employeebase,“ said Lourdes Ribera, P&G multicultural external relations.”Events like this provides the opportunity for everyone totouch base and share our traditions and cultures.”

Through events such as Cincy Cinco, P&G continues its traditionof helping people celebrate the culture and diversity of theirlocal community. All proceeds from the festival will help supportthe Su Casa Center – a center providing support to Hispanicimmigrants – and other initiatives for the Hispanic community inthe Tri-state area.

PROCTER & GAMBLE TEAMS UP WITH PBS TO SPONSOR UNIQUE PROGRAM

During Black History Month 2006, P&G will partner with PBS andthe Coca-Cola Company to sponsor ”AFRICAN-AMERICANLIVES” – an unprecedented PBS television series, taking genealogyresearch to a whole new level.

The project will be the largest record of African-American cultureand heritage ever assembled for wide distribution via print, television,and the Internet. Its cornerstone is a four-hour film, co-producedby Thirteen/WNET New York and Kunhardt Productions, to air duringFebruary 2006 on PBS.

Hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr., W.E.B. Du Bois professor of theHumanities and chair of African and African-American Studies atHarvard University, the program will profile some of the mostintriguing African-Americans of our time. Through a unique combination of storytelling and science, the project will unravelthe mystery of the past by using DNA to trace the specific tribalorigins of individual African-Americans. By spotlighting African-American role models and celebrities, the series hopes to inspiremillions to consider their own heritage and reveal lost dimensionsof the black experience.

“This is a unique program and we’re very pleased to be a part ofit,” said Berrece Andrews, associate director, P&G multiculturalexternal relations. “Our support of the AFRICAN-AMERICAN LIVES

project is part of a broader P&G program aimed at touching thelives of African-Americans with relevant programming. This film series is a very creative way to inspire hope and understanding for this and the next generation.”

For the first time, a team of researchers, genealogists and forensicDNA analysts will conduct compelling investigations into familyhistories of contemporary women and men. Gates will give viewersintimate access to their day-to-day lives while drawing on a wealthof photographs, film clips, music, and early personal records.

“I hope that this project will encourage not just our young people,but all Americans – especially those of African-descent-to exploretheir roots,” said Gates.

The genetics work for AFRICAN-AMERICAN LIVES will be conducted by Dr. Rick Kittles, associate professor at Ohio StateUniversity Medical Center. Dr. Kittles started the companyAfricanancestry.com to help people trace their genetic roots. Thecompany’s African Lineage Database contains 20,000 lineagesfrom more than 135 indigenous African populations.

The AFRICAN-AMERICAN LIVES 4-part series will air duringFebruary 2006. Check local listings for station information and todetermine the schedule for the broadcast.

On May 16 and 17, P&G continued its tradition of supporting diversitythrough internal and external relations, by sponsoring the NorthAmerican MDO Diversity Meetings at Northern KentuckyUniversity’s MET Center.

Created as a forum to foster open dialogue among P&G employeesof color, the meetings encouraged individuals to openly discussdiversity issues and to devise solutions that increase employeeretention and productivity.

This Memorial Day, The Tom Joyner Foundation and P&G joinedtogether to sponsor the third annual Fantastic Voyage® cruise. Forone week, cruisers danced to live entertainment from Old School

favorites like The Gap Band, and participated in a variety of workshops

and other activities, all to the beat of one drum – charity. Proceedsfrom the cruise will be used to help fund the education of African-American students-in-need at Historically Black Colleges andUniversities (HBCUs).

“P&G supports education and learning at all ages,” said BerreceAndrews, associate director, P&G multicultural external relations. “Itis our hope that by providing assistance to African-American students through internships and scholarships, we are helpingthem fulfill their aspirations through the power of learning.”
