Model of Católica Porto
The activity of promoting business at Católica Porto is organized into four areasthat correspond to the thematic areas in which the University can “add value”: the BIOSpin, framing biotechnology in its agri-food, environmental and health branches; the ARTSpin | with the cultural and creative industries in all its dimensions, highlighting the audiovisual; the SOCIALSpin | with the Social Economy; and the GESSpin | framing the areas in which the management and marketing are determining factors.
The Spinlogic program comprises four phases of support adjusted to the evolution of the companies and businesses with respective conformations dependent of the nature of the company or business:
(1) The Pre-Incubation phase in which the viability of the project is evaluated via a ‘business case’ and where the logic from the idea to the business is tested with an onset of implementation.
(2) The Incubation phase in which the business activity has already a �rm identity and starts to conquer its own market showing a high growth and sustainability.
(3) The Post-Incubation phase is essentially a demonstrator and acts as an anchor to help other starting projects.
(4) The Virtual Incubation phase which occurs outside of the physical space of the Incubator.
Concept“The entrepreneurial dynamic of Católica Porto!”
Based on the entrepreneurial culture associated to the University and on its experience in the promotion of businesses over the last 25 years, starting in the area ofBiotechnology and expanding to the area of Arts, the Católica Porto has structured the Spinlogic initiative, asserting itself as an Entrepreneurial University, integrating in it a promotional program of entrepreneurship.
With this initiative we want to show that the word “entrepreneurship” extends itself far beyond the creation of a company or a business and must be daily applied, in every gesture, pursuing the ideal expressed by Fernando Pessoa, in the voice of his heteronym Ricardo Reis: “put everything you are in the smallest thing you do”.
The Spinlogic program o�ers a cohesive set of activities directed to the internal and surrounding community, with proposals that include the stimulation of both curricular and extracurricular activities as well as the motivation and awareness for entrepreneurship, butalso activities of pre-incubation and incubation or projects and businesses and the support to di�erent processes of technology transfer.
Incubation at Católica Porto is one part of the program Spinlogic and is oriented to the development of people and project teams, giving the whole initiative to the entrepreneurs, so as to ensure that it will be themselves the ones to realize the viability of their projects.Developing a business activity is something that implies developing the capacity to work withteams, leadership skills and a huge resilience.
The incubation of businesses is carried out under the Spinlogic program involving over more than 150 people in more than 50 companies and businesses at di�erent stages of development grouped in four areas:
