The SPIDER Surgical System is a minimally invasive

surgical device which enhances your surgeon’s ability

to reduce the invasiveness of certain procedures.

With SPIDER, your surgeon can often operate

through a single, small incision. Utilizing tiny, flexible

instruments, the surgical system opens up within the

abdomen providing the visualization and dexterity

needed.

Traditional laparoscopic techniques require many

incisions spread all over the abdomen to allow the

surgeon to access the surgical field. Many surgeons

have begun to seek safe and effective ways to

further reduce the invasiveness of surgery through

reducing the incisions required.

By decreasing the number of required incisions,

SPIDER Surgery may potentially result in:

• Minimal pain

• Fast recovery time

• Little or no scarring

Of course, every patient experience is different,

and you should discuss your individual procedure

and expectations with your surgeon.

hOW DOeS The SPIDeR SuRgIcal SySTem WORK?

The SPIDER’s unique design accommodates a range

of small flexible instruments plus a tiny laparoscopic

camera, all of which are operated through

a slim tube. The system can be inserted

through an incision approximately the

same size as a dime (18mm).

Often surgeons may operate through a

single incision near the patient’s belly button.

Here’s how the procedure works.

The surgical system is inserted through a small incision in your belly button.

Once inserted into the abdomen, the surgeon can open the system – much like an umbrella – and perform the procedure. The surgeon can manipulate the tiny instruments to bend and move in a wide range of motion.

Once the procedure is complete, the surgeon collapses the system in preparation for removing.

The tools and the system are removed through the original incision.
