plague

There was a fierce and widespread outbreak of plague, probably bubonic and pneumonic, that ravaged Europe

during the 14th century.

Fleas, which lived on the rodents, carried the bacillus to humans by carrying blood from rodents to the people. Unfortunately, for those who were infected, the bug quickly brought a death sentence, as over the course of three or four days the victims experienced horrible pain. The humans who became infected suffered from high fevers and aching limbs. They also experienced the vomiting of blood and swelling of the lymph nodes. These swellings produced blackish coloured spots on the body. Death resulted soon after as these swellings expanded until they burst.
