Pagoda Finished in time for the 2000 race, the Pagoda was designed to resemble the old wooden Pagoda that came down in 1956. 2. Start/finish line The start/finish line is made of original paving bricks that once covered the entire track. 3. Media center The center houses facilities for approximately 400 reporters and 100 photographers. 4. Victory circle The champion pulls his car onto the base of the winner’s podium and a hydraulic lift raises the car and crew to podium level. This was once known as victory lane. 5. Pit road Measures 2,228 feet. There are two lanes of traffic and up to 43 pit spaces. 6. Scoring tower The current pylon was built in 1994 and stands 97 feet. It displays the race positions by car number. 7. Gasoline Alley The main street connecting the garages to pit road. 8. Clarian Emergency Medical Center Drivers with serious injuries can be treated here first, then airlifted to a nearby hospital, if necessary. 9. Fan Zone This fan-interactive center includes Mini Indy battery-operated cars for kids, racing simulators and merchandise. 10. Hall of Fame Museum Opened in 1976, exhibits include cars and various racing equipment throughout the Speedway’s history, two gift shops, the track’s photography office and other offices. Hours: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. every day except Christmas. Admission: $3 for adults, $1 for ages 6-15. Children under 6 are admitted free. For more information, call (317) 484-6784. 11. Brickyard Crossing Golf Course The course was created in 1929 and redesigned in 1993 by architect Pete Dye. It is an 18-hole layout, with four holes and a lake inside the racing oval. Public greens fee: $90 with cart. 12. Raised spectator mounds Spectator mounds were added to the infield landscape throughout the 1990s. These general-admission areas supplement permanent seating. 13. Carousels Eight-sided advertising billboards with scoreboards that display the top 10 places by car number. 14. Video screens Screens were installed in a three-section phase that culminated in 2001. Screens are located around the track and enable fans to see all the action. 15. Administration building Opened in 1994, it houses most Speedway offices, such as those for tickets, credentials, safety and some executives.
