ROAD ACCIDENTS
SPEED CAMERAS: Speed camera is a device that assists whether the vehicles are travelling in a constant speed or not.
If a vehicle exceeds the speed limit, a digital image of the vehicle is recorded.
It records the speed, time and even recognizes the vehicle’s number plate.
Some of the Speed Cameras …..
VARIOUS TECHNOLOGIES EMPLOYED IN THE WORKING OF SPEED CAMERAS
4.Radar speed guns: (doppler effect)
2.LIDAR speed guns-(laser pulses)
3.Infra red light sensors
1.Piezo sensors
PIEZO SENSORS:Principle- Piezoelectric effect.
These are embedded on the surface of road at a fixed distance .
The distance between them can be set to any desired value.
WORKING OF PIEZO SENSORS
CAPTURING OF VEHICLES IMAGE
If the velocity of crossed vehicle is more than the desired speed, then a digital image of the vehicle is taken in the speed camera.
TYPES OF SPEED CAMERAS
APPLICATIONS:
1.SPEED CAMERA IN MULTILANE SYSTEM
Speed cameras can monitor one to four lanes in the same direction.
This is achieved by the installation of piezo detectors in each lane.
2.SPEED CAMERA IN HEAVY TRAFFIC
Speeding vehicle can be detected and photographed
even in heavy traffic.
The angle at which the cameras are set enables pictures to be taken even if another vehicle is in close proximity.
BENEFITS OF SPEED CAMERAS
Speed costs Lives
Economic Benefit
Good for environment CRITICISM OF SPEED CAMERA
Speed is not the main cause of death
Speed camera are a tax on rich.
CONCLUSION:
Speed cameras are the modern innovations which guides whether the
vehicles are engaged in a average speed.
It is a new approach to extract the vehicle details like time, speed etc.
Hence, the speed camera system must be implemented throughout the country,
so that the percentage of accidents would be reduced to greater extent.
