Before opening inspect package on subject of packaging damage.Package contents of Spectrum Compact include spectrum analyzer unit and

additional accessories - coaxial cable, USB cable, USB charger, carrying case andwaveguide-to-coaxial converter.

1.4Initial power-up

Slide power switch towards red dot () to power on Spectrum Compact. If batterymeter is indicating LOW BATTERY, connect USB charger via USB connector andcharge Spectrum Compact. Full charging cycle (with 1A power source) is

approximately 5 hours.Spectrum Compact can only be operated using internal battery. Operation time withfully charged battery is 3.5 hours. Simultaneously operating Spectrum Compact andcharging via USB will prolong operation by approximately 1 hour, but cannot ensurecontinuous operation.

1.5Connecting to antenna

1) Connect coaxial cable (50) to SMA connector (antenna port).

2) Attach waveguide-to-coaxial converter to antenna or radio flange.

3) Attach coaxial cable to waveguide-to-coaxial converter.

If Spectrum Compact is attached directly to theradio use 40dB attenuator to coaxial cable (ifmeasurement will be done with input signalabove -20dBm) and add according offset value inLEVOFFSET.

Exceeding critical input signal level may causeirreversible damage to the equipment.

2USING SPECTRUM COMPACT

2.1Main displayThe display is mapped on a grid, where horizontal axis has 10 divisions and

vertical - 6.75 divisions. The horizontal axis represents linear frequency scale thatincreases from left to right. The vertical axis represents logarithmic power scale thatincreases from bottom to top.

2.2Single and continuous sweep

This setting determines whether Spectrum Compact measures continuously(SWEEP CONT) or once (SWEEP ONCE). Use SWEEP ONCEmodeto conserve batterypower or to allow you to save or analyze a specific measurement.

By default continuous sweep mode is active.

If SWEEP CONTis pressed, buttons change to HOLDand BREAK. Pressing HOLDwill finish current sweep and stop. Pressing BREAKwill interrupt sweep disregarding

its progress. When sweep is finished, HOLDwill change to SWEEP ONCE, but BREAK to SWEEP CONT.

If SWEEP ONCEis pressed, single spectrum sweep is initiated. Repetitive pressingreinitiates single spectrum sweep.

2.3DEMOmode

Demo mode is imitation of signal pattern and allows fully testing SpectrumCompact functionality without actual input signal present. Demo mode conservesbattery power as radio part is not active.

2.4FREQ menu

Frequency selection menu allows setting CENTRE frequency (centre of X axis),START frequency (left limit of X axis) and STOP frequency (right of X axis) inmegahertz (MHz).

Modification of START/CENTRE/STOP frequencies intends preserving unrelatedparameters, e.g. frequency SPAN, therefore any frequency change alters all threefrequencies (START/CENTRE/STOP).

If it is not possible to preserve frequency SPAN due to limit frequencies(depending on Spectrum Compact model 5925..12000, 10000..18000 or17000..24300 MHz), frequency SPAN is changed in accordance with modifiedfrequencies.

Selected frequency is displayed in white. Unselected frequencies are displayed inblue.

If frequency change will not modify frequency span, entered frequency isdisplayed in in bright green, otherwise in pink. Incorrect entered value is displayedin red. See screenshots below. In case of START frequency indication is in pink ifentered parameter will change STOP frequency and vice versa in case of STOPfrequency modification.

You can confirm entered value using ENTER button or by tapping on enteredvalue.

Above the grid RF input level of centre frequency is being displayed in yellow.

2.5SPAN menu

SPAN menu allows defining frequency SPAN(range of X axis - difference betweenSTOPand STARTfrequencies) in megahertz (MHz).

Modification of frequency SPANintends preserving CENTREfrequency, but altersSTART and STOPfrequencies.

Maximum frequency SPAN depends on Spectrum Compact model 6075, 8000 or7300 MHz. Minimum frequency SPAN for all models is 100 MHz.

Current frequency SPAN is displayed in cyan. If change of frequency SPANwill notmodify CENTREfrequency, entered value is displayed inbright green, otherwise inpink. Valid frequency SPAN range (minimum and maximum values) is displayedabove the grid. Invalid entered value is displayed in red. See screenshots below.

You can confirm entered value using ENTER button or by tapping on enteredvalue.

In FREQ or HOMEscreens you can tap left or right on spectrum graph to movefrequency by two sections left or right.

2.6MARKER menu

MARKER menu allows setting marker for input level measurement on specific

frequency or in automatic mode (PEAK) for highest input level in configuredfrequency SPAN(visible spectrum).

In SPAN screen you can tap left or right on spectrum graph to increase ordecrease frequency span.

Current MARKERfrequency is displayed in white. If entered MARKER frequency fitsinside currently visible spectrum, it will be displayed inbright green, otherwise inpink. Invalid entered value is displayed in red. If entered MARKER frequency isoutside current frequency SPAN, green arrow above grid will indicate left or rightposition regarding current frequency SPAN. See screenshots below.

2.7LEV menu

LEV menu allows defining input power level range (Y axis) in decibels referred tomiliwatts (dBm) and input power level offset (e.g. if attenuator is being used) indecibels (dB).

Currently selected MAX or MIN input power levels or OFFSET are displayed inwhite, unselected items in blue. If entered value is valid, it will be displayed inbright green, otherwise in red. Value ranges are displayed above the grid. Seescreenshots below.

You can confirm entered value and activate MAX or MIN input power levels orOFFSETusing ENTERbutton or by tapping on entered value.

2.8TRACE menu

TRACE menu allows setting following trace modes:

OFF continuous single sweep mode where a new sweep iscommenced automatically after the previous sweep is completed(default mode)

MAX H trace in blue shows the highest level detected sincesweeping was commenced. Each sweep, only frequency pointswith higher power levels are updated. Tapping MAX H button

repeatedly resets MAX H trace. Counter below the grid shows inblue number of sweeps since last start of MAX H sweep mode.

In MARKER screen you can tap left or right on spectrum graph to move MARKERleft or right. To move MARKERfaster, tap and hold.

Above the grid theres indication inblueof centre and marker (ifactivated) frequencies power levels.

OVWRT shows in green power levels on each frequency for all

previous sweeps since sweeping was commenced. Each sweep,only frequency points with previously unsaved levels are updated.

MAX Hmode is useful for identification of intermittent signals in the spectrumor the maximum of fluctuating signals.

AVRG 2/4/8 sets sweep averaging mode whereby the traceshows the average of two, four or eight most recent sweeps.TappingAVRG 2/4/8button repeatedly restarts averaging.

Tapping on FILLbutton will paint area below the spectrum curve. This mode can be

operated only for following trace modes: OFF, MAX H, AVRG 2, AVRG 4, AVRG 8.Pressing on VECTwill return back to default spectrum curve representation.

Tapping on SWEEP CONTwill restart sweeping.To exit this menuand return to the home menu tap on BACK button.

AVRGmode is useful for reducing the effects of noise.

2.9TOOLS menu

TOOLSmenu allows setting date and time and adjusting color and brightness; savingand restoring measurement settings; saving and viewing spectrum curves; checkingtouchscreen operation; zooming current spectrum curve.

2.9.1 SETsubmenu

TIME

You can set date (year, month, and day) and time (hours and minutes) by tapping onappropriate parameter. Note that time is being set in 24H format.

COLOR

Allows setting color of the background, grid and curve. You can swap between threeby tapping on SCREEN/GRID/DIAGRbutton in bottom right corner. Color is changed

by modifying red (R), green (G) and blue (B) channels (see screenshot below).

BRIGHT

Set background brightness from 8 predefined presets by tapping on accordingbuttons. BR 1 corresponds to the lowest brightness setting, whereas BR 8 to thehighest.

You can return to HOME screen by tapping on HOMEbutton.

2.9.2 PRESETsubmenu

PRESETsubmenu allows saving, viewing and restoring Spectrum Compactmeasurement settings.

Tap on MODEbutton in order to switch between SET/VIEW/SAVEmodes buttonnames will change accordingly. SETand VIEWbuttons will be shown in accordingcolor only if settings are saved in according slot number, otherwise button will beshown in grey color.

Tapping on SAVEbutton on occupied memory slot number will overwrite settings.

In the example below memory slots # 1 and 2 are occupied, # 3, 4, 5 and 6 are free.

2.9.3 FILESsubmenu

In FILESsubmenu you are able to save current spectrum curve and view previouslysaved spectrum curves.

After opening FILESsubmenu, spectrum sweep is stopped.

You can either save current spectrum curve by tapping on SAVE button, or viewpreviously saved spectrum curves by tapping on VIEWbutton and scrolling throughlist of files using up and down arrow buttons. After entering VIEWmode currentspectrum is lost and therefore SAVEbutton disappears.

In VIEWmode it is possible to enter advanced file menu by tapping on ZOOM+button. Advanced ZOOM+menu allows resweeping visible spectrum by tapping onSWEEP ZOOMEDbutton. If saved files span is wider than 100MHz, you can zoom inor out using ZOOM+or ZOOM-buttons and move spectrum using right/left arrowbuttons or tapping and dragging on the grid in left or right direction.

2.9.4 DRAWsubmenu

DRAW submenu allows saving field notes and testing touchscreen functionality.

You can save note using SAVE button and any of eight available memory slots.Saving note in occupied slot will overwrite its contents. Screen can be cleared usingCLSbutton.

2.9.5 ZOOMsubmenu

If set span is wider than 100MHz, you can zoom in or out using ZOOM+or ZOOM-buttons and move spectrum using right/left arrow buttons or tapping and draggingon the grid in left or right direction.
