    5. GRANTOFLICENSEANDRESTRICTIONSA. Spectragrantsyouanonexclusive,nontransferableEndUserlicense

    righttoinstalltheSoftwareProductsolelyforthepurposeforwhichitwascreated.

    B. UnlessprovidedotherwiseintheDocumentationorbypriorexpresswrittenconsentofSpectra,youshallnotdisplay,modify,reproduceanddistributeanyArtWork,orportion(s)thereof,includedwithorrelatingtotheSoftwareProduct,ifany.Anysuchauthorizeddisplay,modification,reproductionanddistributionshallbeinfullaccordwiththisEULA.Undernocircumstanceswillyouruse,display,modification,reproductionanddistributionoftheArtWorkgiveyouanyIntellectualPropertyorProprietaryRightsoftheArtWork.Allrights,title,andinterestbelongsolelytoSpectra.

    C. ExceptfortheinitialloadingoftheSoftwareProduct,youshallnot,withoutSpectrasexpresswrittenconsent: CopyorreproducetheSoftwareProduct;or Modify,adapt,orcreatederivativeworksbasedontheSoftware

    Productoranyaccompanyingmaterials.6. DESCRIPTIONOFOTHERRIGHTSANDLIMITATIONS

    A. SpectrawillprovideyouwithsupportservicesrelatedtotheSoftwareProduct(Support).SuchSupportwillbeprovidedinaccordancewiththeSpectraMasterSupportAgreement,availablefordownloadandviewingontheSpectraCorporateWebsite.UseofSupportisgovernedbythisEULAandSpectrasMasterSupportAgreement,

    B. Anysupplementalsoftware,code,content,ormediaprovidedtoyouinthecourseofSupportshallbeconsideredpartoftheSoftwareProductandsubjecttothetermsandconditionsofthisEULA.

    C. Spectraretainsallright,title,andinterestinandtotheSoftwareProduct,andanyrightsnotgrantedtoyouhereinarereservedbySpectra.Youherebyexpresslyagreenottoextractinformation,reverseengineer,disassemble,decompile,ortranslatetheSoftwareProduct,orotherwiseattempttoderivethesourcecodeoftheSoftware,excepttotheextentallowedunderanyapplicablelaw.Intheeventthatsuchactivitiesarepermittedbyapplicablelaw,anyinformationyou,oryourauthorizedagent,discovershallbepromptlydisclosedtoSpectraandshallbedeemedtheconfidentialinformationofSpectra.

    D. Youshallnotmodify,sublicense,assign,ortransfertheSoftwareProductoranyrightsunderthisEULA,exceptasexpresslyprovidedinthisEULA.Anyattempttoothersublicense,assign,ortransferanyoftherights,duties,orobligationswillbevoid.

    E. YoumaypermanentlytransferallofyourrightsunderthisEULA,providedyouretainnocopies.TheotherpartymustagreetoacceptthetermsandconditionsoftheEULA.

    7. ALLRESERVEDAllrightsnotexpresslygrantedhereinarereservedbySpectra.

    8. TERMA. ThisLicenseiseffectiveuntilterminated.Licenseemayterminateitatany

    timebydestroyingtheSoftwareProductwithallcopies,fullorpartial,andremovingallofitscomponentparties.

    B. YourrightsunderthisEULAwillterminateautomaticallywithoutnoticefromSpectraifyoufailtocomplywithanyterm(s)orcondition(s)ofthisEULA.Insuchevent,nonoticeshallberequiredbySpectratoeffectsuchtermination.

    C. UponterminationofthisEULA,youshallceasealluseoftheSoftwareProductanddestroyallcopies,fullorpartial,togetherwithallbackupcopies,modifications,printedorwrittenmaterials,andmergedportionsinanyformandremoveallcomponentpartsoftheSoftwareProduct.

    9. INTELLECTUALPROPERTYRIGHTSA. Spectrashallretainallright,title,andinterestintheSoftwareProductand

    toanymodificationsorimprovementsmadethereto,andanyupgrades,updatesorDocumentationprovidedtoEndUser.EndUserwillnotobtainanyrightsintheSoftwareProduct,itsupdates,upgrades,andDocumentation,asaresultofitsresponsibilitieshereunder.

    B. B.EndUseracknowledgesSpectrasexclusiverightsintheSoftwareProductandthattheSoftwareProductisuniqueandoriginaltoSpectraandthatSpectraisownerthereof.Unlessotherwisepermittedbylaw,EndUsershallnot,atanytimeduringoraftertheeffectiveTermoftheAgreement,disputeorcontest,directlyorindirectly,SpectrasexclusiverightandtitletotheSoftwareProductorthevaliditythereof.

    10. U.S.GOVERNMENTENDUSERSTheSoftwareProductandrelateddocumentationareCommercialItems,asthattermisdefinedat48C.F.R.2.101,consistingofCommercialComputerSoftwareandCommercialComputerSoftwareDocumentation,assuchtermsareusedin48C.F.R.12.212or48C.F.R.227.72021through227.72024,asapplicable.TheCommercialComputerSoftwareandCommercialComputerSoftwareDocumentationarebeinglicensedtoU.S.Governmentendusers(a)onlyasCommercialItemsand(b)withonlythoserightsasaregrantedtoallotherEndUserspursuanttothetermsandconditionsherein.UnpublishedrightsreservedunderthecopyrightlawsoftheUnitedStates.11.     OVERVIEW OF NAS STORAGE POOLS, VOLUMES, AND SHARES

    NASStoragepools,volumes,andsharesarethelogicalcomponentsusedtointeractwiththedatastoragecapacityprovidedbytheVerdearrays.

    Storage Pools

    Astoragepoolgroupsasetofphysicaldrivestogethertocreateavirtualdrivethattheoperatingsystemtreatsasasinglephysicaldrive.Dependingonhowitisconfigured,astoragepoolcanprovidemirrored,singleparity,doubleparity,ortripleparitydataprotection.Higherlevelsofprotectionallowformoreindividualdrivestofailbeforethedataiscompromised.Thecostsofhigherprotectionarereducedstorageavailabilityandreducedperformance.

    Volumes and Shares

    Volumesarelocatedoneachstoragepool.Volumescanbeconfiguredwithaminimumsizeandthinprovisionedwithamaximumsize.Whenyoucreateavolume,youcanspecifywhetheritusescompression,andwhetherthetimestampforfilesisupdatedwhenthefileisread(accesstime).Afterthevolumeiscreated,itcanbeshared(madeavailableforusebyothercomputersonthenetwork)viaeithertheNFSserviceortheCIFSservice.

    CREATE A STORAGE POOLWhencreatinganewstoragepool,keepthefollowinginmind: Eachstoragepoolrequiresaminimumofonedrive.SpectraLogic

    recommendsusingeightdrivesormoreinastoragepooltoreducetheimpactoftheoverhead.Overheadisthespaceonthestoragepoolusedtostoreparitydata,andnotusedfordatastorage.

    Drivescanonlybeassociatedwithonestoragepool.Tocreateanewstoragepoolusingdrivesthatarealreadyconfiguredinanexistingstoragepool,youmustfirstdeletetheexistingstoragepoolasdescribedinDeleteaStoragePoolonpage 99.Youcanthencreateanewstoragepoolusingnewlyavailabledrives.

    Usetheradiobuttonstoselecttheprotectionlevelforthepool.Onlyoneoptioncanbeselected.UsetheStoragePoolPreviewinformationtocomparethefaulttoleranceandrequiredoverheadforeachconfiguration.NoneThepoolisnotconfiguredtoprovidedataprotection.Anydrivefailureresultsindataloss.MirrorDataisstripedacrosstwomirrors.Anydetecteddatacorruptioniscorrectedusingchecksums.ThistypeofRAIDoffersthebestperformanceforsmallrandomreadsandwrites.Single parityDataisstripedacrossmultiplesingleparityarrays,whichcantolerateonedrivefailurewithoutdataloss.ThistypeofRAIDhasfasterperformancethandoubleandtripleparitybasedRAIDs.Double parityDataisstripedacrossmultipledoubleparityarrays,whichcantoleratetwodrivefailureswithoutdataloss.Inmostcases,doubleparityprovidesthebestbalancebetweendataprotection,performance,andstoragecapacity.Triple parityDataisstripedacrossmultipletripleparityarrays,whichcantoleratethreedrivefailureswithoutdataloss.ThistypeofRAIDprovidesthemostdataprotection.
