Transcript of SPECT

From:

SPECT:•Stands for Single Positron Emission computed tomography.

•It is a nuclear medicine tomographic imaging technique using

gamma rays.

•It gives 3D images.

• Spect is a nuclear medicine technique used to create 3D

representation of image by 3D distribution of radiopharmaceutical

with in the patient’s body.

• Spect technique itself a gamma camera.

• Spect is executed through gamma camera.

• It’s also called moving gamma camera.

• While gamma camera is a stationary.

Nuclear medicine used:

1) Technetium-99m :Technetium-99m is a meta stable nuclear isomer of technetium-99, symbolized as 99mTc, that is used in tens of millions of medical diagnostic procedures.

2)Technetium Iodide 201:It is also used in tens of millions of medical diagnostic procedures.

DETECTOR CRYSTAL:

* Thallium-activated sodium iodide :Thallium-activated sodium iodide crystals may be

used as efficient detectors of gamma-rays and other ionizing radiations.

It is sensitive to Gamma radiations, and convert it into visible light.

Examples of radio pharmaceuticals used in SPECT:

1) Technetium-99m 6 hours 140KeV2) Technetium Iodide 201 73 hours 69-80 KeV3) I-123 13 hours 159KeV4) In-111 2.83 days 171-245KeV5) Xe-133 5.25days 81KeV
