Search Nebraska Tourist attractions and you’ll come up with more than you can do in one season.

Girl Scouts Earn Car Badge We’ve been fortunate to host the Girl Scouts so they can earn their Car Badge. Here they are shown fixing a car. Having been instructed to always “look for the obvious”, they found spark plug wires out of place, causing a no-start. After fixing the car, it purred. They learned how to check motor oil, tire pressure and measure tire tread depth. They also learned that there are many women in the auto industry and it’s a great place to have a career. Thank you for a great day.

Honoring Our Veterans Next month, women will ride their motorcycles from points across the country to converge on To-peka, Kansas for the Women’s Freedom Rally. They will set the world record for the most women on motorcycles in one place. They will raise money to benefit veterans. 2 years ago, they rode many states and raised about $20,000 to buy a service dog for a female veteran. Last year, they raised almost $30,000.

GWS is a Major Sponsor for 2019 I was a rider in both prior events and this year am very proud to announce that our company is a major event sponsor. Every rider pays all their own expenses and there are no paid fundraising staff of any kind. All money raised goes to veterans. Our company believes strongly in giving to our community and this is one more thing we can do. Our veterans put themselves in harms way to pro-tect our freedom. This is a very small way we can show gratitude and respect to them. The Women’s Freedom Rides are 100% women and no men are allowed on the rides.

Rally Celebration June 12 Frontier Harley Davidson is holding a special party on Wed, June 12, from 6 to 9pm. I am one of 3 Ride Captains that will be leading nearly 50 wom-en riders from South Dakota to Lincoln, then on to the Topeka Rally the next day. Answers to Quiz 1. False. Most cars are designed to shut off the AC compressor on hard acceleration. This enables you extra quickness when passing and also increas-es fuel economy. Relax, it’s not even broke. 2. True. Using the GPS tracking software in many cars, hackers discovered that the password on about 27,000 cars was set to “123456”. Brilliant. - Fortunately, these were “white hat” hackers who are paid by car makers to probe for weaknesses. The systems most commonly found vulnerable on this one were itrack and Protrack. If you get a mes-sage to reset your password, please do so. Also, please don’t use Bluetooth to connect your phone to a rental car. That can download ALL your personal information, contacts, secret codes and un-derwear size into the car. Well, maybe your under-wear is safe, but that’s the least of your worries. 3. False. It sounds good, but high beams cause all the light projected into the fog to reflect right back in your eyes, just like a mirror. Use low beams to try to direct light low onto the ground. Actual fog lights project a very low, thin beam of light. 4. True. Dirty cabin filters prevent air from moving through the system. This means that refrigerated air stays in one place, fooling the AC thermostat into think-ing the whole car is freezing, so it shuts off the AC. So, while it is freezing, you are (gasp) perspiring. Wooo. After servicing over 60,000 cars, we’ve got a pretty good handle on just how long these filters work effectively and that’s why we replace them on a regular basis (15,000 miles) as part of our scheduled maintenance. This is just one more way we keep you motoring carefree down the road in all kinds of weather. The left side of the photo shows light coming through a clean filter, on right is a filter plugged with dirt. Ick.

Watch for Ice on Road? People are mowing the ditches to make their homes look pretty. They often blow grass clip-pings out onto the road-way, which creates a very slick surface. Be mindful that this can be as slick as ice, affecting stopping dis-tance and also the ability to take corners. The risk is double or more if it’s rainy and wet.

We Are the Overall Lowest Cost The most expensive repairs are the ones that don’t fix the car. Money is spent for nothing. Next is the repair that doesn’t last and has to be redone. Parts quality has become a slippery issue re-cently. We continually test and track quality so you can be assured of getting the best possible parts at extremely reasonable prices. Our repairs last. You can, for example, buy a remanufactured al-ternator for very little. They even offer a lifetime warranty. What this means to me is that you’ll spend a lifetime in your driveway changing out failed alternators. - We’ve tried every inexpensive brand we could find and had very little luck getting any of them to last even a year. The brand we use will remain reliable for 100,000 miles. Definitely, the lowest cost.

Quick Car Care Tips Missing cap. If the filler cap for the wind-shield washer stuff goes missing, get a new one or stuff the opening. Failure to install a new cap means dirt, bugs and pieces of old sneakers can get into the reser-voir. This can damage the pump and/or clog the squirters. It’s expensive to take it all apart to clean up the mess. Makes a cap look cheap. Trust the gas pump when it clicks off, indi-cating the tank is full. Look, it’s full and if you keep forcing in more gas, you run the serious risk of satu-rating emission stuff. Please, just trust the system and stop when it clicks off. This will avoid a “check engine light” and expensive repairs. (Bad for you, good for us) Don’t buy the car if you won’t buy the gas. Some performance engines require premium gaso-line. I know some people just put regular in them, but this defeats the purpose. An engine that re-quires premium really needs it. Don’t cheap out.

Oooh, I Hate that Rodent! Rodent’s front teeth never stop growing, so they are perennial chewers. Even worse, it’s been discovered that some car parts are made with materials that rodents find irresistible. Oh boy. Honda has now escalated the battle by coming out with gray tape that’s infused with super hot peppers. We can now help you with rodent issues and wrap up your expenses. - Please don’t eat the tape yourself. Expensive Rain Hazards Standing water is every-where this spring. This photo of a one-ounce glass of water illustrates how very little water needs to get sucked into your

engine to ruin it completely. Don’t push water with your front bumper, like you see on the news. No playing submarine. Don’t drive fast through pud-dles like you’re pulling a water skier. I know it’s fun, but…. One ounce of water, ingested into one cylinder will break parts.

Federal Law Prohibits Any car dealer from implying that you have to have maintenance done at a dealer in order to keep your new car warranty in force. If you are paying, it’s your choice to have re-pairs done where you wish, like us. We are recognized by Honda, Toyota, Acura and Lexus as competent to perform maintenance required to keep their warranty good. So call us.
