Our Mission Statement: To GATHER as God’s family, To GROW in Grace, To GO in Faith, Love & Service
Special Meeting of the Congregation April 10th---10:45 a.m.
Active members of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church are encouraged to attend a special meeting of the congregation to vote on whether or not to begin the Beaver Valley Alive capital campaign. This campaign—to raise up to $150,000 for the 150th Anniversary of the congregation-- is designed to not only prepare the congregation’s facility for the upcoming celebrations, but to expand our congregation’s ability to do ministry into our future.

“Vision leads to Mission” Visioning—a fairly imprecise mix of listening and talking and praying and studying together—is what generates clarity of mind enough to know what to actually, finally go and do. This is true for individuals as they can at times in their life pause to evaluate the direction that their life is taking. It is also true of organizations. They can and do well to pause at times along the way and discern what key features of its past are worth protecting and building upon just as the present and future context for doing work is changing.
This movement, from prayerfully seeking a vision for mission, has happened here at Beaver Valley. We have talked frequently over the past months about the strengths of our congregation and why people would want to remain as members (what do you most enjoy/appreciate about our congregation?) or come and join our congregation(what is the most important thing you look for in a church home?). Out of that Vision to Mission conversation has come the clear understanding that we are a place where 1) people come to our garden-like setting to find peace and quiet for the sake of renewal; 2) we are a Sabbath day worshipping community centered in the Word; 3) we all stand together and genuinely enjoy each other’s company—long-time and new member alike. Understanding our strengths and values has been critical in our work to suggest three projects that would be funded by the money raised in the Beaver Valley Alive campaign (cover article). All three of these projects have very much emerged from last year’s wide open conversations about who we have been, who we are and where we are headed. We know that our congregation is wonderfully unique and that for many folks, this congregation is and would be a good place to grow in the faith. I pray that we will pack the fellowship hall on April 10th for our “Beaver Valley Alive” campaign vote. On that day, there will be plenty of time for good conversation, prayer and then a formal decision made as to what our mission will look like as we approach and trust that we will, in Jesus’ name, faithfully move beyond our 150th Anniversary celebration. May God Bless Beaver Valley Lutheran, Pastor Greg Johnson
A mission statement is not something you write overnight... But fundamentally, your mission statement becomes your constitution, the solid expression of your vision and values. It becomes the criterion by which you measure everything else in your life. Stephen Covey

ALL-Youth Ministry Benefit Dinner SUNDAY, APRIL 24TH
11:00 a.m
First, we will gather for worship and then we will dismiss for a cup of coffee as the kitchen workers are getting ready to serve a Lasagna Dinner for those who wish to show their support for Beaver Valley’s many youth going to Bible Camp or who will be going on a summer, ministry retreat. Beginning on Sunday, April 3, you will have the chance to get your tickets for this event. There is no cost for the ticket, we just need to know how many people are committing to attending the benefit dinner on the 24th. Your payment for the meal—a free will offering—can be given on that Sunday as you go through the serving line. Or, if you cannot attend, your gift to support our youth--3rd grade through Senior High registered for a summer camping trip—will be a blessing equally shared.
Sign-ups are posted in the church hallway. It may be that you would like to support the youth by making one of the twenty pans of lasagna needed. Great and thank you! Please have the fully cooked and hot lasagna to the church before church starts (we can keep the lasagna hot and tasty, but do not have oven space to be cooking lasagna in the kitchen on the day of the meal). It may be
that you would be willing to help serve or cleanup. Thanks for that, too. Last year we had a great crowd and a fun day. Thank you Beaver Valley members for the many ways you support our youth throughout the year! Education Committee
p.s. You will want to know that our congregation’s Lenten offerings and our budgeted support of the Vacation Bible School week has again fully supported the cost of bringing a Shetek Bible Camp team to Beaver Valley for the week of July 31-August 4. Thank you and God bless!

Pastor Greg’s Report:
I would say that these are busy and good times for our congregation. My report gives an overview of my work
over the past month and my look out into the summer.
As I look back at the past month, I am thankful for a congregation that “joins in” and really gets involved. I am
glad for:
A Celebrating Love evening that is still being talked about! A simple night of being together, enjoying
one another’s company, as a congregation inviting a few friends is a good thing. Parish Life Group help
was appreciated. I think Annie’s was pleased to have us come on over to Garretson.
A February 21, successful Inspiration Hills Bible Camp youth retreat (both confirmation and senior
high) went well. Over a dozen kids made the trip…four adult drivers joined right in with the retreat. “
Forgiveness = New Beginnings” was the retreat theme that will be a part of our Easter morning sunrise
worship as it is turning out!
A church council retreat, was held over at Split Rock Lutheran on February 28th
. The council did deep
work around the two topics: what does a “vital” congregation look like? I am glad that we agreed to
enter into the process of being a part of the Vital Congregation Project. The second hour of the retreat
involved making firm decisions and preliminary commitments to the Beaver Valley Alive campaign.
The decision to take this to the congregation for an authorizing conversation and vote was a sign to me
that this congregation is trusting in its future. Very gratifying to be a part of a congregation with such
engaged leadership.
The Lenten Round Robin is going well. The numbers seem to be down some from a year ago. I am
wanting to talk about other options for Lent for 2017. Is there perhaps a need to take a break from
Lenten preaching series? I have a few ideas to work on over the summer.
I am glad that we are welcoming four new households into the congregation on March 13. I have spent
more time than usual in getting out and finding these folks as meeting for formal classes with others has
been difficult. These four households are blessing to us! I work to make sure that they are called upon
to be involved in Beaver Valley.
I am wanting to get the summer worship schedule and strategy put together before April is out. I want
to take a huge step up in the way in which we spread the word about our Wednesdays in the summer.
I continue to promote the importance of youth bible camping/vacation bible school. I am glad to see
the numbers of youth signing up for a week of camp increasing. We will be using Shetek Bible Camp
more this year. I look forward to another blessed Holy Week: starting with a March 20th
, Palm Sunday
Pageant, through Maundy Thursday Holy Communion worship, to our Easter morning sunrise 7:00 a.m.
and 9:30 a.m. worship services we will gather in Jesus’ name!
MMSC: Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Todd and seconded by Janet. Motion carried.
