Special-Lite doors are heavy-duty doors, engineered to providemaximum performance and strength with minimum weight.This not only makes them easier to open for ADA compliance,it also reduces wear and tear on hardware, framing, and wallanchors to prolong the life of the entire entrance system.

The high performance of our flush doors is made possible byadvanced design features such as mitered corners, full-width tie

rod joinery, locked-in-place face sheets, and a poured-in-placeurethane foam core that bonds the door components into asingle, integral unit. This gives our flush doors just the rightbalance of flexibility, rigidity, and impact resistance, as well asthermal insulating properties superior to hollow metal doors.Our monumental doors feature the same tie rod joinery as ourflush doors, plus true mortise and tenon construction forexcellent strength and long life in a full-vision door.

Preserving Indoor Air Quality

Special-Lite doors, panels, and framing were thefirst entrance products to achieve GREENGUARDCertification, including the Children & SchoolsStandard, providing independent verification thatnone of the materials used or methods of constructioncreate the potential for emissions of harmful volatileorganic compounds (VOCs). In addition, our durableand maintenance-friendly factory finishes eliminatethe need for repeated refinishing which producepotentially dangerous airborne particulates andfumes, and allow even tough stains like graffiti to beremoved with green cleaners.

Improving Thermal Performance

Independent laboratory testing confirms that Special-Liteflush doors have superior thermal insulatingproperties compared to the untested performanceclaims made by makers of hollow metal doors.

When our flush doors are combined with thermallyimproved framing and insulated panels to reduceglazed surface area, entrance thermal performancecan be improved even further to help reduce buildingheating and cooling loads.

Reducing Embodied Energy

Special-Lite sources aluminum extrusions made fromprime-equivalent billet that is produced using 100%reprocessed 6063-T5 aluminum alloy reclaimed fromindustrial processes. The recycling of aluminum uses95% less energy than producing virgin material, soour use of prime-equivalent reprocessed billet for ourextrusions helps to reduce the embodied energy ofour entrance systems. A typical Special-Lite door alsoweighs about half as much as an equivalent steeldoor, helping to reduce transportation-related energyusage as well.
