In fourteen different sites across the state of Geor-gia, GHSA football teams are competing to get to

the much-anticipated state championship games at the Georgia Dome. The expansion to six classifications and seven championships has provided added excite-ment to this year’s playoff structure. The players and coaches have worked hard all year to get to this point in the season. Many of you have supported these teams in various ways this sea-son, and that is an important part of the success of these teams. It is my desire that you enjoy your ex-perience at these games and that you demonstrate the highest levels of sportsmanship as you cheer on your team in a positive way. The GHSA is grateful for the host schools where these games are played, and we want to thank the ad-ministrators and their staffs for working to make these games special. The GHSA wants to thank the large number of volunteer workers who serve at these games to make them flow smoothly. Finally, we also want to thank our corporate partners and preferred vendors who enable the GHSA to produce these post-season events.

Cordially yours,

Semifinals stocked with next level prospects across each classificationRecruiting experts from across the nation

have listed Georgia among the top four states each and every year for producing college football players and this 2012 football season is no different. The semifinals are loaded with players that will put pen to paper either this Feb-ruary or next February on National Signing Day. The cliche is tired but remains true: Big-time players step up in big-time games. It is time for these elite prospects to step up with a shot at the state finals on the line. In Class AAAAAA, Norcross boasts per-haps the top running back in the state in Alvin Kamara. The Blue Devils’ running back has been explosive all season long, and last week added “wildcat quarterback” to his impressive resume. Kamara has rushed for more than 1,900 yards and 24 touchdowns this year and is trying to decide between Alabama and Georgia. Nor-cross also boasts running back/receiver Myles Autry, cornerback Shon Akins and defensive end Lorenzo Carter. Carter has proven unstop-pable this season with more than 20 sacks. Colquitt County has its own set of play-makers in quarterback Cole Segraves and wide receiver Bobby Hill. Segraves is mulling over his options while Hill has already pulled the trigger on a pledge to Ole Miss. In the trenches,

Octavius Jackson, Rush Propst’s big offensive tackle, is headed to Florida. On the other side of the AAAAAA bracket, Lovejoy’s offense will give the fax machine a workout on National Signing Day. QB Alejandro Bennifield is headed to UT-Chattanooga while TE Arshad “A.J.” Jackson is for now headed to Auburn. WR Jumichael Ramos has committed to Georgia Tech along with RB Travis Custis. STATE’S BEST JUNIOR ... In Class AAAAA, Gainesville boasts the best player in the classification and perhaps the best player in the state, regardless of grade. Ju-nior quarterback DeShaun Watson has account-ed for 68 touchdowns on the year. Last week against Harris County, Watson tallied 572 total yards with seven scores. He has given a pledge to Clemson, but after this incredible season, he could be tempted to look around. Northside-Warner Robins’ Keshun Hill and Whitewater’s Kendall Conley are other special offensive standouts that should be followed throughout the semifinal action. The talent in Class AAAA is spread out across all of the teams as Sandy Creek, Monroe Area, Marist and Ridgeland each have interesting prospects. Sandy Creek’s Shaq Wiggins, a defen-

sive back headed to Georgia, and junior wide re-ceiver Demarre Kitt are at the top of the list, but don’t sleep on lineman Alan Knott and junior quarterback Cole Garvin. Knott is headed to South Carolina while Garvin will certainly begin to see his recruiting process pick up over the next year. Marist boasts a pair of stud prospects in tight end Greg Taboada (Stanford) and quarter-back Myles Willis (Boston College). Each have helped the War Eagles get in a position to earn Alan Chadwick his third state title. DEFENSIVE STARS ... Ridgeland has an interesting player in Vonn Bell. While Bell projects as a defensive back at the next level, he has been used on offense this season with great success. He is trying to decide between Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio State, and has told reporters that it is more likely that the school’s academic standing will mean more than the athletic standing. St. Pius X has a pair of outstanding juniors in Nick Ruffin and Nick Glass that have coach Paul Standard dreaming of state titles. Glass, a defensive back, has pledged to Georgia while Ruffin, who is starring at wide receiver in addi-tional to defensive back, has offers from Georgia Tech, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Caro-

lina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Florida State. While Buford doesn’t have the recruiting haul of one year ago, the Wolves do have lineman Josh Cardiello, headed to Georgia, and two-way star Mikey Bart, headed to South Florida. In Class AA, the 2012 Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year Taylor Lamb will try and help Calhoun reach the finals yet again and win a second straight title before departing for South Alabama. This season, Lamb has passed for 34 touchdowns and more than 3,150 yards while running for another 300 yards and 11 scores. SMALL BUT MIGHTY ... Class A may be the smallest classifica-tion, but that doesn’t mean the class is devoid of talent. George Walton Academy’s Stanley Williams has pledged to Georgia and has been running wild all season. Another junior back to watch is Landmark Christian’s Jeremiah Kirk-land. ELCA boasts a pair of elite prospects in defensive lineman Isaac Rochell (Notre Dame) and Keyante Green (Purdue). Finally, Dooly County’s Montravius Adams is considered by several recruiting services to be the top defen-sive tackle in the country. Proctor can be reached at [email protected].

Lovejoy vs. North Cobb

After making the Class AAAA finals in 2011, Al Hughes’ Lovejoy Wildcats will have a shot to make the AAAAAA finals with a home game in the semifinals against North Cobb. Lovejoy

quarterback Alejandro Bennifield has weapons galore with tight end Arshad “A.J.” Jackson, wide receiver Jumichael Ramos and running back Travis Custis. The Wildcats have scored 42 points per game this season while allowing just seven per contest. So far this postseason, Lovejoy has taken out Tri-Cities 51-13, Marietta 36-15 and North Gwinnett 21-6. The Wildcats’ defense has faced several outstanding individual performers over the first three rounds of the playoffs and systematically eliminated each one. With 11 straight victories, Lovejoy will attempt to equal last year’s 14-1 record, but another 14-1 this season would mean a state title. North Cobb will offer a similar look to what Lovejoy saw last week with Tyler Queen serv-ing as a dual threat under center and J’Vonte Herrod tearing up yardage out of the backfield. After a huge game against Mill Creek (147 yards on seven receptions), Xavier Borishade leads a talented receiving corps that includes Cameron Albright and Nick Miller. Albright is also a key member of the Warriors’ defense that produced six turnovers last week against Mill Creek. Albright recovered a fumble and snagged an interception while James King picked off two passes and Latrell Gibbs intercepted a pass and forced a fumble. North Cobb, the runner-up out of Region 4-AAAAAA, has taken out Valdosta 42-14 be-fore whipping Region 3-AAAAAA champion Hughes. North Cobb put yet another 42 spot on the board last week against Mill Creek. Shane Queen’s Warriors have won six straight since dropping a region game in October to McEachern. North Cobb won four straight to open the year. Queen’s team is averaging 43.5 points per game in its victories, but just 26.5 in two losses.

Norcross vs. Colquitt Co.

The Norcross Blue Devils have an offense loaded with talent. Keith Maloof’s attack begins with running back Alvin Kamara, but wide receiver/running back Miles Autry, wide receiver Trey

Smith and quarterback Joseph Wilber also provide plenty of sparks for an offense that hasn’t scored less than 20 points in any game this season. Kamara is one of the nation’s top running back prospects and, in the quarterfinal win over Camden County, Kamara showed he could do it all. He rushed for 158 yards on 27 carries and even got into the act at quarterback in the wildcat, throwing for a score. Autry has scored 19 times this season. Defensively, Lorenzo Carter is nearly unstoppable off the edge while cornerback Shon Akins is a shutdown corner like few others in Class AAAAAA. This is the first trip to the semifinals for Norcross and for Maloof, an 18-year coaching veteran. Colquitt County, the No. 4 seed out of Region 1-AAAAAA, will return to Gwinnett Coun-ty after beating Parkview in Lilburn last week. Rush Propst has now helped the Packers reach the semifinals for the fourth straight season. Quarterback Cole Segraves threw for two huge scores in the second half to pull away from the Panthers in a 31-15 win. Bobby Hill and Tod-darian Boyd were on the receiving end of touchdowns last week. Up front, Colquitt County boasts 6-foot-5 offensive lineman Octavius Jackson, a monster of a tackle headed to Florida next year. Defensively, Hill gets into the action alongside Johnny Ward and Jamal Phillips in the secondary. The defensive key will be two-sport standout Travis Register, who is also a wrestler. If Register can stop Kamara at the point of attack, Colquitt County could make Norcross one-dimensional. The Packers will return to the metro Atlanta area for the fourth straight week after winning at McEachern (30-28), Newnan (26-23) and Parkview.

Northside-Warner Robins vs. Ware Co.In a rare occurrence, powerhouse program Northside-Warner Robins (13-0) has to travel for

a playoff game. The Eagles have not played a postseason contest on the road since the 2009 semifinals at Newnan and played the following week at a neutral site, the Georgia Dome, in the state finals. The Eagles avenged a 2011 semifinals loss to Tucker by beating the Tigers 23-20 last week. Coach Kevin Kinsler’s crew scored three touchdowns in the final period to come back from a 13-3 deficit. The Eagles rely on quarterback Glenn Smith and running backs Keshun Hill and Curtis Martin, who combined to rush for more than 2,700 yards and 33 touchdowns this season behind a veteran offensive line. The Eagles’ defense has allowed more than 20 points just once this season and is led by senior linebacker Trey Payne and senior defensive tackle Anfirnee Chatfield. The Eagles’ semifinal opponent, Ware County, is an outstanding defensive football team. The Gators have shut out five opponents this season, including quarterfinals opponent Stephen-son, and have allowed more than 20 points just twice. Coach Ed Dudley’s squad (12-1) held the talented Jaguars to just 63 total yards last week, as Tremon Porter had two interceptions. In 12 games this year, the Gators have allowed just 8.5 points per game. Offense may be a problem for Dudley’s bunch, however, as the Gators managed just 198 yards on Stephenson, including 101 on the ground. Quarterback Jamar Johnson, a threat on the ground and through the air, ran for a 25-yard score against the Jaguars and presents a big-play threat to Northside. In four years at the Waycross school, Dudley has accumulated 38 wins. The 12 wins Ware County earned this season are tied for the most in program history, and it is the Gators’ first semifinal appearance since 2007.

Whitewater vs. Gainesville

Gainesville’s high-flying offense will look to continue its prolific ways at Whitewater. Gainesville (10-3) is led by superstar quarterback DeShaun Watson, who has totaled 68

touchdowns this season. The talented signal-caller, who has committed to Clemson, has many believing Gainesville could shock Class AAAAA by winning the state title by simply by scor-ing at will. Behind Watson, the Red Elephants have scored more than 60 points in two straight playoff games and hit the 60-point mark four times total this season. In 12 games, the Red Elephants have stampeded their way to a 50 points-per game average. Along with Watson, Gainesville boasts college commitments in senior wide receiver Ca-leb Heyman (a South Alabama pledge) and defensive back Fred Payne (a Western Carolina pledge). The Red Elephants have not won a state title since 1925, although they have been to the playoffs each year since 1999. Coach Bruce Miller has guided Gainesville to eight double-digit win seasons or more in 11 seasons while taking he Red Elephants to at least the quarterfi-nals six times. Whitewater (12-1) comes into the final four as one of the more unheralded teams still playing. The Wildcats have quietly won 12 straight games after losing to Coffee in the season-opener and set a school record for wins while doing it. The Wildcats’ 12 wins broke the pre-vious record of nine. Whitewater is known around the state by many as the team that upset Northside-Warner Robins in the first round of the 2010 playoffs. Coach Amos McCreary’s bunch smothered Allatoona last week in a 24-3 victory in which it kept the visitors scoreless for three quarters. Running back Kendall Conley scored twice while quarterback Jay Ashley ran for a 20-yard touchdown.

Monroe Area vs. Sandy Creek

No. 1 Sandy Creek is appearing in its third semifinals in four seasons and has now won 12 or more games for the fourth consecutive year. The Patriots (13-0) outplayed defending AAA

state champion Burke County last week in an impressive 31-20 win. Cole Garvin hit sensational junior wide receiver Demarre Kitt on a 74-yard touchdown pass to take the lead at 24-20 in the fourth quarter before running back Eric Swinney clinched the win with a 38-yard score. The duo of Swinney and Delvin Weems at tailback, along with the Garvin-to-Kitt combi-nation will be relied on by the Patriots tonight against Monroe Area. Other names to look for are offensive lineman Alan Knott, a South Carolina commitment, and defensive back Shaq Wiggins, a Georgia commitment. Garvin, a junior has thrown for 2,087 yards this season while Swinney has rushed for 1,226 yards and 18 touchdowns. Weems, meanwhile, has totaled 885 yards and 15 touchdowns. Kitt has 881 receiving yards and eight scores on the season. Sandy Creek has made the playoffs in each season under coach Chip Walker, who took over for his father, Rodney, before the 2002 season. Since then, Sandy Creek has won its only two state titles in school history. Monroe Area (12-1) was once a struggling program, but coach Matt Fligg has done an amazing job turning around the Purple Hurricanes in his seven seasons at the school. Fligg’s program totaled just four wins in his first four seasons, but has rebounded dramatically to win 31 games in the past three seasons combined. Monroe Area will make its first semifinals appearance in the modern era tonight after dispatching South Effingham 47-8 last week. The Purple Hurricanes looked like a well-oiled machine last week as Kwan Brooks and Junior Reed each had two touchdowns.

Ridgeland vs. Marist

Marist will travel to Ridgeland in the other semifinal as the visiting War Eagles are in their 30th consecutive season in the playoffs. Marist has won two state titles, in 1989 and

2003, in its illustrious history. Coach Alan Chadwick’s squad is led by dual-threat quarterback Myles Willis, who has 419 total yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs, and defensive end/tight end Greg Taboada. The War Eagles (12-1) pride themselves on controlling the line of scrimmage, and have done so thus far in the playoffs. Marist has rushed for 761 yards in three playoff games, an aver-age of 5.7 per rush while limiting their opposition to 190 yards, or 1.8 per rush. Taboada leads a fierce War Eagles pass rush, that has totaled 10 sacks in the postseason, with the Stanford commit claiming five of them. Ridgeland, like Monroe Area, has undergone a miraculous transformation under coach Mark Mariakis. The Panthers (12-1) were largely an afterthought in northwest Georgia prior to Mariakis’ arrival, but have since become a perennial playoff team having made seven straight postseasons under Mariakis. This year represents the first semifinals appearance for the pro-gram, which began in 1989. Running back Darrell Bridges led Ridgeland to a 45-14 win over Mary Persons in the semifinals with four touchdown runs. The Panthers totaled 385 rushing yards on 57 carries including 205 by Bridges. The senior has rushed for 664 yards in three playoff games. Defensive back Vonn Bell, who has offers from almost the entire SEC as well as Ohio State and UCLA, leads the defense. Bell also plays on the offensive side of the ball, and had 84 yards on 10 carries, including a 37-yard fourth quarter touchdown scamper in the Mary Persons game.

North Hall vs. St. Pius x

In the other semifinal game, North Hall (11-2) travels to St. Pius X (11-2) after taking out Peach County 52-10 last week. Bob Christmas’ Trojans have scored at least 32 points 10

times this year. Outside of a 45-16 loss to Buford on Nov. 9, North Hall has not given up more than 27 points in a game this season. In the Trojans’ 11 victories, the team is aver-aging 44.7 points per game. Opposing offenses average just 13 points per game this year against North Hall, just 10 points per game if you take out the Buford game. Offensively, Kevin Christmas has been at the forefront of a different offensive look for the Trojans. T.J. Tate and Zac Little also get into the action on the ground, as does quarterback Brad Brown. North Hall has knocked off Woodward Academy (38-7), Morgan County (13-9) and Peach County en route to the semifinals. St. Pius X has stepped up its offense through the first three weeks of the postseason, averaging more than 47 points per game after averaging just 31 during the regular season. Quarterback Jack Spear leads the offense, but junior playmakers Nick Ruffin, Branden Mitchell and Nick Glass do their part for Paul Standard’s offense. Mitchell rushed for a pair of scores and 164 yards against Washington County in the quarterfinals. Both Ruffin and Glass are also outstanding defensive backs that already have recruiters drooling. If Standard’s offense keeps humming along, the defense, with three shutouts and two other games where the opposition scored fewer than seven points, has the potential to shut down North Hall’s running attack. St. Pius X defeated Dawson County 72-28, Hart County 31-15 and Washington Coun-ty 40-35 en route to the Class AAA semifinals, the program’s first appearance since 2006.

Cartersville vs. Buford

Undefeated Cartersville (13-0) ended the season of previously undefeated Thomson in the AAA quarterfinals, but the Buford Wolves (10-3) await in the semifinals and of-

fer a daunting task. The strong Purple Hurricanes defense has held six opponents to seven points or fewer this season, but Buford has scored at least 31 points per game since falling to Gainesville in early September. Last week the Wolves posted a 31-7 win over Carver-Columbus in Columbus. Quarterbacks Taylor Mitchell and Montgomery VanGorder have shared the signal-caller duties all year with Zavior Hoxie, Dontravious Wilson and Joshua Thomas leading a talented backfield. Wilson just eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the sea-son. Jaylon Mize and Mikey Bart are two-way stars while Josh Cardiello and Nick Polino are studs on the offensive line. Buford is in the semifinals for the sixth straight season, the longest current streak in GHSA football. The Wolves conquered Cedar Grove (41-27), North Oconee (13-0) and Carver-Columbus to reach the semifinals. Buford also owns a victory over another AAA semifinalist, North Hall, from earlier this year. Two of Buford’s losses this year were forfeited wins due to an ineligible player. Cartersville’s defense has been opportunistic all year, but the offense has also helped Frank Barden’s squad reach the semifinals for the first time since 2004. Quarterback Brooks Barden has led the offense to 40 points per game this season. Opposing defenses may be catching up to the Purple Hurricanes’ offense, though, as the last two weeks, Blessed Trinity held Carters-ville to 24 points in a 24-23 loss and Thomson gave up just 21 points in an eight-point loss. Cartersville opened the playoffs with a 56-21 thumping of Jackson County. It has been quite a turnaround for Barden’s team, which finished 5-5 last season.

Calhoun vs. Lamar CountyLast year, Calhoun won its first state title since 1952 in an overtime thriller against nemesis

Buford in the Class AA championship game. Now, with Buford gone to AAA, the Yellow Jackets are favored to repeat. However, Calhoun (13-0) will have to get past 12-0-1 Lamar County to make the finals. Coach Franklin Stephens left Tucker for the head coaching position at the Barnesville program, and has made a big impact in his first year at the helm of his alma mater. Stephens’ program has now won 12 games in back-to-back seasons after not winning more than 10 in a season in school history, which dates back to 1970, according to GHSFHA.org. Aside from a season-opening tie against Spalding, the Trojans have dominated the compe-tition in winning 12 straight. Lamar dominated a talented Cook squad in Round 1 before edging Benedictine and Lovett. In the quarterfinals, Lamar quarterback Lance Austin finished 6-for-6 through the air for 141 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 96 yards and a score. A 34-yard pass to twin brother Lawrence Austin sealed the win for the Trojans. Lamar County (12-0-1) is up against a serious challenge, however, in the semifinals against a Calhoun program that has not lost to anyone except Buford since September of 2009. The Yel-low Jackets feature a talented duo of quarterback Taylor Lamb, a South Alabama commitment who threw for 365 yards and accounted for six scores in the quarterfinal against Brooks County, and running back Alex Urbano, who rushed for 122 yards and a score last week. The host Yellow Jackets have won double-digit games each year under coach Hal Lamb since 2001 and have won more than 12 games four consecutive seasons. It is the fifth year in a row Calhoun has made the semifinals.

jefferson vs. Greater Atlanta Chr.The Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans come into their semifinal against Jefferson having

scored 114 points in the playoffs thus far. Quarterback Rafe Chapple is one of the most prolific signal-callers in the state, and will try to light up the sky Friday night at Jefferson while running back Kyle Scales slices and dices opponents on the ground. GAC (10-3) has won 10 games for the first time since 2006, and edged Early County last week 27-24 on a last-second field goal by Brandon Holzgrefe to make the semifinals for the first time since a finals appear-ance in 2002. The field goal attempt was set up after Chapple led the Spartans down the field on 5-of-6 passing for 49 yards. The Spartans have not been held under 24 points this season, but have given up more than 30 points twice - both losses - while allowing all but two opponents to score in double digits. Jefferson (12-1) also won dramatically in the quarterfinals as quarterback Bryant Shirreffs hit running back Tristen Jackson for the game-tying touchdown, then again for the game-win-ning two-point conversion in the Dragons’ thrilling 53-51 triple-overtime win over Fitzgerald. Jefferson has won 12 games for the first time in school history. Jackson had 40 yards receiving and 30 rushing yards in addition to his two-point conversion catch. Shirreffs, a senior, has offers from Dartmouth and Yale. Legendary coach T. McFerrin has guided the Dragons to arguably their most successful four-year period in school history, with three playoff berths and two seasons with more than 10 wins. McFerrin, who retired from coaching after the 2004 season but came back to guide Jefferson in 2009, has totaled 315 wins in 35 seasons. He has also coached at Lithonia, Forest Park, Peachtree, Southeast Whitfield, Tucker, Elbert County and South Gwinnett. GAC has won all four meetings with Jefferson, which came between 1996-1999.

Lincoln County vs. Dooly County

The GHSA seeded out the 16 teams in the Class A public school bracket, and so far with one minor exception, the brackets have played out according to plan. Dooly County

(10-2) is the lone team that upset the order, as the No. 5 seed Bobcats “upset” No. 4 Semi-nole County 34-28 in the quarterfinals. Montravius Adams is a beast at defensive tackle. At 6-foot-4, 310 pounds, he is listed as the No. 1 player at the position by 247sports.com. Offen-sivley, quarterback A.J. Smith is more than capable of carrying a team. Smith passed for 255 yards and four scores in the win over Seminole County in the quarterfinals. Dooly County has not lost since Oct. 19, a 12-7 defeat to Marion County. The playoffs have seen the Bobcats roll off a 19-8 win over Turner County and the win over Seminole County. Jimmy Hughes’ Bobcats lost in the first round of the playoffs last season and had not reached the semifinals falling in the Class A 2002 finals. The No. 1 Lincoln County Red Devils (11-1) advanced past Wilkinson County 28-22 thanks to tailback Mike McIntire and quarterback Ben Turner. McIntire eclipsed the 100-yard mark with two scores while Turner passed for 232 yards. Larry Campbell’s team also received a punt return for a score to advance to the semifinals for the first time in five seasons. The Red Devils currently boast a 10-game winning streak and knocked off Hancock Central 21-0 and Wilkinson County to reach the semifinal round. Lincoln County has captured nine Class A titles since 1985 and Larry Campbell has led the Red Devils to 11 of the school’s 14 state titles. Over his 41 seasons, Campbell is the winningest coach in Georgia high school football history with 470 wins.

Wilcox Co. vs. Emanuel Co. institute

Wilcox County (10-2) is paced by quarterback Makail Grace. This year, he has passed for 3,054 yards and 29 touchdowns and run for another 866 yards and 10 scores. One

of his favorite targets is 6-foot-5 Jonathan Howard, who has snagged 98 passes for 1,420 yards and 17 touchdowns. Howard reeled in three scores in the team’s 39-21 win over Marion County in the quarterfinals. The team opened up the postseason against Greenville with a 42-14 victory. Mark Ledford is a fine coach for the Patriots and last week’s win was No. 100 with the program. He has been with the program since 2001. Wilcox County has now also reached 10 wins for the sixth straight season, including the 2009 championship. Ironically, the 2009 season was the last time Wilcox County reached the semifinals. Emanuel County Institute (11-1) awaits Wilcox County with James Brown and Greg Purcell ready to run wild if given the chance. ECI rushed for 439 yards in a 46-12 win over Gordon Lee in Round 1 action and then the team used Brown and Purcell to put away Trion. Brown has rushed for 332 yards in the postseason and Greg Purcell passed the century mark with 103 yards against Gordon Lee. Two other ECI backs have racked up at least 400 yards rushing this season. Caleb Pressley is a two-sport star and brings plenty of athleticism to the quarterback position for Chris Kearson’s Wing-T offense. He has thrown for nearly 1,000 yards and had a touchdown pass in the last game. ECI is back in the semifinals for the first time since making the finals in 2008. The team last won the state title in 2007 under former coach Milan Turner, who is now the Thomson head coach.

Prince Avenue Chr. vs. Landmark Chr.

Landmark Christian (9-3) made the finals one year ago and could be poised to return under Wayne Brantley thanks to junior tailback Jeremiah Kirkland. The War Eagles back rushed

for 214 yards and three scores in Landmark Christian’s 38-24 win over First Presbyterian in the second round. Josh Nobles is another playmaker for Landmark Christian. The War Eagles opened the postseason with a 10-7 road win against Calvary Day, earning a measure of revenge after Calvary Day beat the War Eagles to open up the season. Landmark Christian has defeated Athens Christian, Our Lady of Mercy and Holy Innocents’, all playoff teams, during the regular season. The War Eagles have been a regular playoff team since 2001, but are finally starting to show dominance in the state’s smallest classification. Brantley could be sitting on a budding dynasty that simply needs to win one to bust through the door. Prince Avenue Christian (10-2) will face Landmark Christian after upsetting No. 1 Athens Academy in a rematch of a game played earlier this season. The Wolverines defense stood tall in the 24-7 win, registering sacks, forcing two fumbles and intercepting two passes. Carl Mat-tox rushed for 121 yards and a score to give coach Mark Farriba the win over Athens Academy. Mattox also stars in the defensive secondary. Christian Payne blocked a punt and had a pair of sacks in the quarterfinal victory. Prince Avenue previously took out Darlington 42-21 on the road. This will be Prince Avenue Christian’s first home playoff game in 2012. The team fell to George Walton Academy in the final game of the regular season but previously rattled off eight wins in nine games, including victories over playoff teams such as Savannah Christian, Athens Christian and Commerce. Prince Avenue reached the semifinals last year after reaching the postseason for the first time in program history in 2010.

Eagle’s Landing Chr. vs. George Walton Acad.

After soundly defeating the defending Class A champions in the quarterfinals, Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (11-1) now prepares to host No. 11 seed George Walton

Academy (9-3). The Chargers hope to be sparked by their do-everything RB/LB Keyante Green. Green has played all over the field for coach Jonathan Gess when healthy. He has missed chunks of the season and sat out last week with a high ankle sprain. Dalton Etheridge is back at quarterback after missing time with his own injury. He helped the offense rack up 407 yards with his legs (three scores, 69 yards) and arm (two touchdown passes) in a 42-7 quarterfinal victory over Savannah Christian. Defensively, Isaac Rochell is a star at defen-sive end and will play at Notre Dame next year. Gess’ team fell in the semifinals last year to finalist Landmark Christian. This year’s team has beaten Landmark Christian once during the regular season while also beating Holy Innocents’ before taking out Our Lady of Mercy 42-14 in Round 1. George Walton Academy has a stud at running back in junior Stanley Williams. After rushing for 224 yards in the Round 1 win over Aquinas, Williams scored twice to go with 251 yards on 17 carries in a 37-7 victory over Walker in the quarterfinal round. He now has 24 touchdowns on the season. If ELCA can shut down Williams, George Walton Academy may struggle to find other avenues of producing yardage. The team managed 370 yards against Walker, 251 coming from Williams. Don Williams’ squad can certainly say it is battle-tested. The 9-3 mark includes wins over First Presbyterian, Holy Innocents, Commerce, Prince Av-enue Christian and Athens Christian, as well as the 38-12 win in a rematch over Aquinas and the victory over Walker. The team also fell this season to Athens Academy by one point. This is George Walton’s first trip to the GHSA semifinals.
