Steering System. STIC™ control systemintegrates steering and transmissionfunctions into a single controller formaximum responsiveness and smoothcontrol.

Optional Ride Control. The optional ridecontrol system uses a nitrogen filled oilaccumulator in the hydraulic lift circuitto act as a shock absorber for the bucketand lift arms. The lift arm and bucketresponse to movement is dampened overrough ground, reducing fore and aft pitch, improving cycle times and load retention.A smoother, more comfortable ride givesoperators the confidence to travel at speedsabove 5 km/h (3 mph) during load andcarry operations.

Cat Hydraulic Hose. Field proven Cathigh pressure XT™ hydraulic hoses areexceptionally strong and flexible formaximum system reliability and longlife in the most demanding conditions.Reusable couplings with O-ring face sealsprovide superior, leak free performanceand prolong hose assembly life.

6

HydraulicsCat hydraulics deliver the power and control to keep material moving.

Frame Design. The frame features robuststructural components for outstandingdurability in the toughest loadingconditions. Caterpillar integratesadvanced processes in the design andmanufacture of Cat frames and structures.Computer modeling and Finite ElementAnalysis (FEA) are used extensivelythroughout design.

Steel Frame. Strong steel frame structuresare designed to resist twisting forces, torsional shock and stresses generatedduring the loading cycle while protectingdrive line and hydraulic systemcomponents.

Lift Arms. Solid steel lift arms absorbhigh stresses generated during loadingwithout sacrificing strength or durability. The linkage design offers excellentreach and dump clearance for betterproductivity. Lift arm support pinsprevent lowering the lift arms duringservice and maintenance.

Loader Tower. The four plate loadertower provides a solid mount for liftarms, lift cylinders and Z-bar tilt linkage. The loader frame is designed and builtto absorb twisting, impact and highloading forces.

Cast-Steel Cross Tube. The cast steelcross tube provides excellent resistanceto torsion and impact loads, keeping pinbores well aligned and extendingcomponent service life.

Z-Bar Loader Linkage. Proven Z-Barloader linkage geometry generatespowerful breakout force and an increasedrack back angle for better bucket loadingand material retention.

Sealed Pins. Sealed colleted pins arefitted to all bucket and lift arm hingepoints for longer pin and bushing life. This reduces maintenance costs andextends service intervals. The sealedjoints retain lubrication and preventcontaminant entry.

Hitch. Spread hitch design widens thedistance between upper and lower hitchplates to distribute forces and increasebearing life. Thicker hitch plates reducedeflection. The wide opening provideseasy service access. Upper and lowerhitch pins pivot on roller bearings todistribute horizontal and vertical loadsover a greater surface area. Shim adjustedpreload reduces maintenance time.An on-board steering frame lock pinis fitted to prevent articulation duringmaintenance and service.

7

StructuresDesigned for maximum strength and durability in the harshest operating environments.

Ergonomic Layout. The R1300G IIoperator station is ergonomically designedfor total machine control in a comfortable, productive and safe environment. All controls, levers switches and gaugesare positioned to maximize productivityand minimize operator fatigue.

Pilot Controls. Low-effort pilot operatedjoystick controls integrate steering, transmission and implement functionsfor smoother, faster cycles with lessoperator fatigue.

Electronic Autoshift. Electronic autoshiftallows the operator to choose automaticor manual shifting. In auto mode, theoperator uses a dash mounted switchto select the highest gear they wish themachine to shift to. In this mode, thetransmission shifts at factory preset shiftpoints so that each shift occurs at optimumtorque and ground speed for maximummachine performance.

Dual-Pedal Braking. Dual brake pedalsfunction as a brake and a transmissionneutralizer so the operator can maintainhigh engine rpm for full hydraulic flowand fast cycle times.

Protective Structure. The operator stationhas integrated into its construction aROPS – Roll-over protective structuresand FOPS – Falling object protectivestructures. This structure is resilientlymounted to the frame, reducingvibration to the operator fora more comfortable ride.

Suspension Seat. Suspension seatprovides optimal driving position andenhances operator comfort, all shift long.

STIC™ Steering Control. STIC™combines directional selection, gearselection and steering into a single leverfor maximum responsiveness. Simpleside-to-side motion turns machine rightor left. Transmission shifting (forward/neutral/reverse) is controlled using athree position rocker switch. The thumboperated upshift and downshift buttonscontrol manual shifting.

Optional Enclosed Cab. Optional sound-suppressed ROPS cab provides a quiet, secure working environment. Largewindow openings offer excellent visibilityin all directions. Enclosed design providesfresh, pressurized, temperature-controlledair circulation with air-conditionedcomfort and a more comfortable workingenvironment. The air conditioning systemuses environmentally friendly R134arefrigerant.

Optional Ride Control. The system usesa nitrogen filled oil accumulator in thehydraulic lift circuit to act as a shockabsorber for the bucket and lift arms. The lift arm and bucket response tomovement is dampened over roughground, reducing fore and aft pitch, improving cycle times and load retention.A smoother, more comfortable ride givesoperators the confidence to travel athigher speeds during load and carryapplications.

To determine gradeability performance: Read from gross weightdown to the percent of total resistance. Total resistance equalsactual percent grade plus rolling resistance. As a general guideuse 2% for rolling resistance in underground applications or

refer to the Caterpillar Performance Handbook. From the totalresistance point, read horizontally to the curve with the highestobtainable gear, then down to maximum speed. Usable rimpullwill depend upon traction available and weight on drive wheels.
