Emissions. The Cat C6.4 with ACERTTechnology introduces a series ofevolutionary, incremental improvementsthat provide breakthrough enginetechnology built on systems andcomponents developed by Caterpillarwith proven reliability. The technologycapitalizes on Cat expertise in three coreengine systems: fuel, air and electronics.By combining ACERT Technologywith the new Economy Mode, customerscan balance the demands of performanceand fuel performance and fuel economyto suit their requirements and application.

Fewer Leak and Spills. Engine oil andencapsulated hydraulic oil filters arepositioned vertically and are easy to reachto minimize spillage. Service intervalsare extended to reduce the number oftimes fluids are changed and handled.

• Hydraulic oil service can be extendedto 4,000 hours with the S•O•SSM OilSampling program.

• In addition to the S•O•S program finefiltration system attachment extendsthe service interval to 5,000 hours.

• Cat Extended Life Coolant extendsservice to 12,000 hours, creating lessneed for fluid disposal.

Environmentally Responsible DesignCat machines not only help you build a better world, they help maintain and preservethe fragile environment.

Performance. The Cat C6.4 withACERT™ Technology offers more enginepower, and runs at lower speeds forbetter fuel efficiency and reduced wear.

Power Management. Optimal machineperformance for each type of application. The operator can change the work modeon the monitor from Standard (STD) toeither Economy Mode (ECO) or HighHorsepower Mode (HHP). EconomyMode is recommended for light duty

applications to save fuel, whereas HighHorsepower mode is recommended forhigh production applications wheremaximum forces and machine speedare needed.

Automatic Engine Speed Control. The two-stage, one touch controlmaximizes fuel efficiency and reducessound levels.

ADEM™ A4 Engine Controller. The ADEM A4 electronic controlmodule manages fuel delivery to get thebest performance per liter of fuel used. The engine management system providesflexible fuel mapping, allowing theengine to respond quickly to varyingapplication needs. It tracks engine andmachine conditions while keeping theengine operating at peak efficiency.

Fuel Delivery. The Cat C6.4 featureselectronic controls that govern the fuelinjection system. Multiple injectionfuel delivery involves a high degreeof precision. Precisely shaping the

combustion cycle lowers combustionchamber temperatures, generating feweremissions and optimizing fuel combustion. This translates into more work outputfor your fuel cost.

Cooling System. To reduce fan noise, the cooling fan is driven from a viscousclutch which is electrically controlledby the machines ECM. It calculatesoptimum fan speed based on the targetengine speed, coolant temperatures, hydraulic oil temperature and actual fanspeed. The Cat C6.4 delivers a completelynew layout that separates the coolingsystem from the engine compartment.

Air Cleaner. The radial seal air filterfeatures a double-layered filter core formore efficient filtration and is located ina compartment behind the cab. A warningis displayed on the monitor when dustaccumulates above a preset level.

4

EngineThe Cat C6.4 gives the 323D exceptional power and fuel efficiency unmatched in theindustry for consistently high performance in all applications.

5

Component Layout. The 323D hydraulicsystem and component locations havebeen designed to provide a high levelof system efficiency. The main pumps, control valves and hydraulic tank arelocated close together to allow for shortertubes and lines between components, which reduce friction loss and pressuredrops in the lines. The layout furtherprovides greater operator comfort byplacing the radiator on the cab side ofthe upper structure. This allows incomingair to enter the engine compartmentfrom the operator side and hot air andcorresponding engine sound to exit onthe opposite side away from the operator. This reduces engine compartmentheat and sound being transmittedto the operator.

Heavy Lift Mode. The 323D Heavy LiftMode maximizes performance whileboosting lifting capability. Heavy loadscan be easily moved in the full workingrange of the machine maintainingexcellent stability.

Hydraulic Cross Sensing System. The hydraulic cross sensing systemutilizes each of the two hydraulic pumpsto 100 percent, under all operatingconditions. This improves productivitywith faster implement speeds andquicker, stronger pivot turns.

Pilot System. The pilot pump isindependent from the main pumpsand controls the front linkage, swingand travel operations.

Boom and Stick Regeneration Circuits.Boom and stick regeneration circuitssave energy during boom-down andstick-in operation. The regenerationcircuits increase efficiency, reducecycle time and pressure loss for higherproductivity, lower operating costsand increased fuel efficiency.

Electronic Control System.Ten hydraulic pump flow settingscan be preset. Factory Cat work toolsmatching the machine size class arestandard preset.

Auxiliary Valve. The auxiliary valve isstandard on the 323D. Control circuitsare optional, allowing for operation ofhigh and medium pressure work toolssuch as shears, grapples, hammersand pulverizers.

Hydraulic Cylinder Snubbers. Locatedat the rod-end of the boom cylindersand both ends of the stick cylinder tocushion shocks while reducing soundlevels and extending component life.

HydraulicsCat hydraulics deliver power and precise control to keep material moving.

Operator Station. The workstation isspacious, quiet and comfortable, ensuringhigh productivity during a long workday. The air conditioner and attachmentswitches are conveniently located onthe right-hand wall, and the key switchand throttle dial are on the right-handconsole. The monitor is easy to seeand maximizes visibility.

Seat. The standard seat providesa variety of adjustments to suit theoperator’s size and weight including fore/aft, height and weight. Wide adjustablearmrests and a retractable seat belt arealso included.

Climate Control. Positive filteredventilation with a pressurized cab isstandard. Fresh air or re-circulated aircan be selected with a switch on theright console.

Hydraulic Activation Control Lever. For added safety, this lever must bein the “operate” position to activatethe machine control functions.

Controls. The 323D uses pilot operatedcontrol levers, positioned so the operatorcan operate with arms on the armrests. The vertical stroke is longer than thehorizontal, reducing operator fatigue. The control lever grips are shaped tofit into the operator’s hands. The hornswitch and one-touch low idle switchare positioned on the left and right grip.

Skylight. A unique large polycarbonateskylight provides very good upwardvisibility, especially useful in aboveground applications.

Implement Controls. Easy to handle joy-sticks with integrated push buttons andsliding switches control all implementand swing functions. The sliding switchesprovide modulated control for hydro-mechanical tools and are designed toincrease operator comfort and reduceoperator fatigue.

Windows. To maximize visibility, all glass is affixed directly to the cabeliminating the use of window frames.70/30 split windshield stores the upperportion above the operator. The lowerfront windshield features a roundeddesign to maximize downward visibilityand improves wiper coverage.

Wiper. The wiper maximizes visibility inpoor weather conditions. The windshieldwiper is designed to cover the mostamount of glass while maintaining alow profile, which helps overalloperator visibility.

Cab Exterior. The exterior design usesthick steel tubing along the bottomand perimeter of the cab, improvingthe resistance of fatigue and vibration. This design allows the FOGS to bebolted directly to the cab, at the factoryor as an attachment later, enabling themachine to meet specifications and jobsite requirements.

Operator ComfortDesigned for simple, easy operation and comfort, the 323D allows the operator to focuson production.
