WELCOME LETTER

Dear Industry Colleagues,

On behalf of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the conference committee, it is my pleasure

to invite you and your colleagues to participate in the third edition of the SPE Middle East Artificial Lift

Conference and Exhibition to be held from 30 November–1 December 2016 in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain.

The theme for this conference is “Lift More for Less”. This will be the basis for the conference's technical agenda

and discussion topics.

As our industry embarks on challenging times of low oil prices while the demand remains high, operators and

service providers together are aiming more to strike a balance by lifting more oil with less costs. This can’t be

achieved without close collaborations amongst stakeholders. To attain this challenging balance, optimising the

artificial lift method while enhancing its lift cycle cost becomes a high priority. This event will certainly bring

together the industry’s subject matter experts in artificial lift, operators and service providers alike to share

their best practices, cutting edge technologies, successful business models and success stories, allowing the

production community at large to leverage and benefit from their experiences.

SPE and the conference committee seek a diverse range of contributors from the industry to submit paper

proposals on any of the artificial-lift-related topics outlined in this brochure. Please submit your paper proposal

for consideration by the committee before 12 May 2016.

As this is the third edition of this excellent and successful conference, we anticipate a highly diversified and

engaging technical programme for 2016 and look forward to your valued participation.

I look forward to meeting you in Manama in late 2016.

Regards,

Mohammed Al-Musharraf Conference ChairpersonGeneral Supervisor, Production and Facilities Development Saudi Aramco

objectives and/or scope of the proposed paper. (25–75 words)

  2. Methods, Procedures, Process: Briefly explain your overall approach, including your methods, procedures, and process. (75–100 words)

  3. Results, Observations, Conclusions: Please describe the results, observations, and conclusions of the proposed paper. (100–200 words)

TECHNICAL CATEGORIES Use the topics included in this leaflet to indicate the topic that best describes your paper proposal. A primary choice is required; however, a secondary choice is optional. Paper proposals are evaluated on the basis of the information supplied on the paper proposal form in accordance with the following criteria:  1. The proposed paper or ePoster must

contribute to petroleum technology or be of immediate interest to the oil and gas industry, and should contain significant new knowledge or experience in the oil and gas industry.

  2. Data in the paper proposal must be technically correct.

  3. The proposed paper or ePoster may present information about equipment and tools to be used in exploration and production. Such paper proposals must show the definite applications and limitations of such equipment and should avoid undue commercialism and extensive use of trade names.

  4. The substance of the proposed paper or ePoster must not have been published previously in trade journals or in other professional or technical journals.

Prior to paper proposal submission, management clearance must be obtained. Any issues concerning clearance should be outlined when the paper proposal is submitted.

COMMERCIALISM Enter a title that is concise, yet descriptive of the primary content, and application of the proposed paper. SPE has a stated policy against use of commercial trade names, company names, or language that is commercial in tone in the paper title, text, or slides. Use of such terms will result in careful scrutiny by the committee in evaluating paper proposals, and the presence of commercialism in the paper or ePoster may result in it being withdrawn from the conference programme.

GUIDELINES FOR ACCEPTED PAPER PROPOSALS 1. Your paper proposal could be accepted

for presentation in a technical or ePoster session.

2. Authors of accepted paper proposals will be notified in June 2016.

3. Authors whose abstracts are accepted

will be required to provide a manuscript for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings. SPE operates a “no paper, no podium” policy whereby if a manuscript with the associated forms is not received by the due date, it will be withdrawn from the programme and not allowed to present.

4. Detailed instructions on the preparation of manuscripts and presentations will be sent to corresponding author of each accepted paper.

5. SPE assumes no obligation for expenses by authors for travel, lodging, food, or other incidental expenses.

6. Accepted authors will be offered a discounted full conference registration fee.

COPYRIGHT All authors of papers or ePosters presented at the conference will be required to complete and submit a copyright release form to the Society of Petroleum Engineers or submit the copyright exemption form where applicable.

SUBMITTAL   1. Obtain the necessary clearance

on the proposed paper from your management.

  2. The completed paper proposal must be received by 12 May 2016.

  3. Submit your paper proposal online at www.spe.org/events/meal/2016. It is critical that all the information requested on the form be provided in full and in the order requested.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

An agreement to present a paper at this SPE conference carries an obligation to participate in the event. Manuscripts will be required. Authors whose paper proposals are accepted will be expected to provide a

manuscript for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings. Authors who do not submit a manuscript and the associated forms by the due date will be withdrawn from the programme and not allowed to present.

Technical and ePoster presentations for the conference will be selected from paper proposals submitted to the committee. The committee will consider all abstracts submitted by the deadline of 12 May 2016. Early submission is particularly important to ensure that the committee members have ample time to review the paper proposals. Late paper proposals will not be accepted. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their paper proposals electronically at SPE website, www.spe.org/events/meal/2016.
