Indian Society of Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning

This is an authorized Student Chapter of the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air

Conditioning Engineers sponsored by ISHRAE Mumbai Chapter. It was established in Sardar

Patel College of Engineering on 11th October 2007 by Dr. Roshini Easow, who also chairs

the Mumbai Student activity. Student Chapter is established for the purpose of advancing the

arts and sciences of heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation, and the allied arts

and sciences for the benefit of the general public.

This active chapter functions under the guidance of Prof. Kunal Y. Bhavsar. As the saying

goes ‘Seeing is believing’, student members plan a day visit to a few places of interest that

will expose them to the actual reality of HVAC&R products and systems, designed, erected

and operating in actual sites. They are taken around by a faculty advisor from the college. It

is seen that the industrial visits have a lasting impression on the student minds about what

they learn in college.

Besides this there are provisions for corporate sponsorship for deserving students’ project and

meritorious students are encouraged in the field of HVAC with scholarships. There is also the

Emerson Online University which provides online courses consisting of theoretical and

practical material in HVAC system design.

Another important facet is the quiz contests arranged. The finals of the 10th ISHRAE

intercollegiate engineering quiz contest were held on 10th February 2011 in central

quadrangle of SPCE campus. The quiz committee comprising Professor Dr. Roshini Easow,

V Krishnan, Nitin Naik, D Krishna Kumar, Vikram Murthy and the Quiz Master, B. Gautham

Baliga, put together a quiz contest which was a combination of KBC and IPL. The response

received was overwhelming.

Students are encouraged to participate in the various design oriented competitions such as

National Design Competition and Bry Air Awards which gives students a cutting edge

experience in designing and presenting their designs.

Such activities keep the students interested and informed about the latest technologies in the

field.
