Spanish 5Semester 1 Project: fall 2016Sculpture: Spain and Latin America

Picasso, Miró, Dalí, Botero, Chillido: choose 1 of these 3 pieces of sculpture by the artist, 1 of which (or + 1) that is being exhibited currently in the US

o research from Spanish sources only with ALL sources cited, minimum of 4 cited sources (combination of online, print, anecdotal interview, podcast/video-cast etc.). You are encouraged to seek out sources of expertise from the University of Wyoming Faculty, which may be oral interview in English (record). Other sources: consult with Sra. Chamberlain

i. Biographical context: historical, country, ii. artistic style, influences on style, genre, materials, locales

iii. outside review/critique to be compared with your own compare/contrast to comparable local, regional, national sculptor (in consultation with Sra. Chamberlain), number of sculptures to be

determined by studento research on sites written in English allowed, 2-3 sources cited (combination of online, print, anecdotal interview, podcast/video-

cast etc.). You are encouraged to seek out sources of expertise from the University of Wyoming Faculty, record. Other sources: consult with Sra. Chamberlain.

Presentation: week prior to Winter Break (December) or week following Winter Break (January)o Anyone not completing this during the 2 weeks allotted will NOT present at all. If you are going to be absent during the two

weeks of presentations, it is YOUR responsibility to arrange to present PRIOR to December 12, 2016. Grading:

o Submit 5 factual questions, 1 short answer prompts, 1 essay prompt representing your research for unit assessment; due at time of presentation, Writing X1

o Timed Writing: 20” over own research, 2nd week of January, Writing X3o Assessment over unit content of all projects: matching of images, significant styles, artists, specific pieces, historical contexts

etc., 2nd week of January. This will be in lieu of other Final Exam. Testing X3.o Language: see Language Rubric (target Intermediate High +), Speaking X3o Presentation: poise, practice, fluency, natural incorporation of media to support oral text, Speaking X2o Second presentation for another class: live or recorded in which case the quality of the recording will be assessed. Speaking X2

b. Audio/visual media to support presentation that does not represent more than 5% of total presentation

i. Options: PP, Prezi, models/cut-away images, combination of any of these

ii. NO text on PP/Prezi slides other than brief title

iii. Include maps, diagrams, photos (locales, studios, etc.)
