THE VERY BEGINNING Nazareth Academy Established in 1814 by the Sisters ofCharity of Nazareth Served as a school for women Prepared sisters to become educators 5. GROWTHNazareth College Opened in 1920 as the first four-year Catholic college for women in Kentucky Became Catherine Spalding College in 1961 6. MORE CHANGES ANDGROWTHSpalding College In 1969 Nazareth College at Nazareth inBardstown merged with Catherine SpaldingCollege in Louisville. In 1973 became coeducational in theCatholic tradition for students of all traditions. 7.
