Charming, glamorous and intriguing, Paris is always worth a visit. It has indeed a thriving cultural and

artistic life all year round, but it is actually in January when the City of Light turns itself into a real

capital de la creation, an incredible hub for design glitterati from all over the world. Maison & Objet,

attractive halls, such as Côté Déco, Scènes d’Intérieur and Now!Design à vivre.

In this press kit you will find plenty of information that will ease your work and allow you to make the

most of your visit to the Spanish stands, that this year will occupy a global surface of more than 3,300

Main markets for Spanish furniture

European markets are the main consumers of Spanish products, with France, Portugal,

Germany, Italy and United Kingdom ranking at the top of Spain’s major furniture purchasers.

Over the first nine months of 2012, encouraging results have been registered both in some

African and Latin American emerging markets.

Among African markets, Morocco ranks now 6th on the list of Spain’s main clients, with a

+4.9% increase of imports from Spain. Better performances have been registered in

Equatorial Guinea, Angola and Algeria that have increased their purchases of Spain’s

products by +35.6%, +82.2% and +48.8% respectively.

Spain’s furniture exports have picked up also in some Latin American countries, such a as

Venezuela (+175.5%), the Dominican Republic (+39.5%) and Brazil (+116.3%), due to the

growth of the real estate and hospitality sectors in these markets.

To compensate the decrease of sales to some most EU markets, Spain’s furniture exports

have gained positions in Northern and Eastern Europe. Export to the Netherlands and

Switzerland have risen sharply by +19.3% and +5.6%. Having increased its purchases by

+37.8%, Russia confirms itself as a promising market for Spanish furnishing products, ranking

now 7th among top importers from Spain.

Spain’s furniture is also highly appreciated in the Middle East, where exports to Saudi Arabia,

that ranks 11th, have grown by +24.1%. Purchases from UAE and Qatar have increased by

+2.8% and +15.2%, respectively.

Imports

As far as the main furniture supplier countries are concerned, China, whose furniture

purchases from Spain amounted to 358.7 million Euros (-14.8%), consolidates itself as the

main origin market, concentrating almost 24% of Spain’s imports of furniture.

Four countries of the EU (Portugal, Germany, Italy and France) rank 2nd to 5th just behind

China, representing 42.4% of total imports.

December 24 / 2012

Founded in 1962 and based in Burgos, Garcia Requejo is a specialist in “the luxury of dressing light”, as they define themselves. The company is facing the new year with three important challenges: strengthening their presence in international markets, a brand new web page – www.garciarequejo.com – and a special role in a new Spanish film: “Las Brujas de Zugarramurdi” by Alex de la Iglesia to be launched in March 2013.

Thanks to the close collaboration with interior designers and decorators, García Requejo has been commissioned to supply bespoke lamps and decorative items for the setting of several TV series and successful films. The last one of these was the new film directed by Alex de la Iglesia, a terror comedy starring Carmen Maura, Hugo Silva and Mario Casas, among others.

The company was asked to design and install the two

fine crystal chandeliers that dominate the scene shot in

the dining room of the palace Boadilla del Monte,

Madrid, the big mansion converted into a witch house

for the shoot. The two pendant lights keep a special

trick, but you can’t see it

The company that over the years has specialized in the design and manufacturing of lamps and mirrors in different ranges of style (rustic, Provençal, classic and contemporary) has just launched a new web page that is easier to consult and is accessible from different devices: www.garciarequejo.com

Over the last five decades, García Requejo has also carried out important lighting and interior projects for the hospitality and residential sectors. Made-to-measure products and a full service of lighting engineering have been supplied to main hotel chain, such as Radisson, Paradores and Vila Vita.
