Myoma- Controversies to Consensus Venue: Hotel JW Marriott, Pune
09:00 am - 01:00 pm
Objectives: Due to an event in the United States in recent years, the place of myomectomy, particularly when morsellation is involved has been severely questioned. The incidence of malignant change in myomas has been quoted to be as high as 1:380 and this has been the yardstick used to warn many a gynecologist off the removal of what otherwise was thought to be a benign tumour. Various national and international societies have drawn guidelines to help the practising clinician make educated decisions as to managing what had previously been considered a benign disease. This workshop brings together international experts to discuss this current challenge and hopefully help the attendants steer their way through the muddle that has arisen over recent times. 1. Introduction and overview - Peter Maher2. Preoperative assessments and indications for removal –Lilo Mettler3. Does medical management have a place? - Bimal John4. Surgical options and approaches – P. G. Paul5. Does laparotomy still have a place? When is big too big? - Prakash Trivedi6. LMS-fact or fiction? - Ellis Downes7. Have we been brain washed? Are plastic bags the answer? - Mala Raj8. The dust is settling on the LMS issue or is it? What is the wayforward? – Lip Kee Yap
