    Lesson 1Stewardship

    The Grace of GivingII Corinthians 9:6 - 8 (8)

    Part I

INTRODUCTION : Money management is not so much a technique as it is attitude. And whenwe talk about attitudes we are dealing with emotions. Thus money management is basically self-management or control of ones emotions. Unless one learns to control himself, he is no morelikely to control this money than he is to discipline his habits, his time or his temple.Undisciplined money usually spells an undisciplined person.

    Robert J. Hasting

    I. THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF GIVERS AND MOTIVES .A. Different kinds of givers . You have the following: tippers, who give a dollar or two.

The Emotional giver. The Legal giver, gives for taxes or a way to get more from God.The Biblical giver, who gives the way the Bible says to give.

    B. Different kinds of motives . You have the following: Hope of a return. Fear of judgment. Praise of men. Commitment to a specific project. Loves to give out of obedience.

II. TITHING IS BIBLICAL .A. It is part of the Old Testament responsibility before the Law . Abraham, paid the

tithe to Melchizedek, Genesis 14:18 - 20 before the Law was written. Jacob promisedGod that he would give God a tenth of all that God would give unto him (Genesis 28:20 -22). The people before the Law knew that all things belong to God and by grace theygave a tenth back, without a commandment from God through the Law.

    B. It is part of the Old Testament responsibility after the Law . Moses told the children

of Israel that all the tithe is holy unto the Lord (Leviticus 27:30 - 33). Notice the word, holy. The prophet Malachi commanded that the tithe be brought into the storehouse or church (Malachi 3:10).

    C. It is part of the New Testament responsibility . Many people make the mistake of thinking they no longer have to tithe because we are not under Old Testament (O.T.)Law but living by the New Testament (N.T.) Way. But Jesus says differently. In Luke11:42, He says, These ought ye to have done talking to the Pharisees that tithing wasstill in effect. It is also the N.T. churchs responsibility by the tithe and offerings thatfull-time workers receive their livelihood (I Corinthians 9:7 - 14). Paul says the N.T.churchs responsibility was to give the tithe to the church on the first day of the week,Sunday (I Corinthians 16:1, 2).

    Lesson 1 (contd)

III. TITHING IS A CLEAR PART OF OUR SERVICE TO GOD .A. It is not a substitute for service , II Corinthians 8:1 - 5. Tithing doesnt make you to

be in Gods will if you are not doing all the rest of what He commands; it is just a part of service, not the whole.

    B. It is a matter of obedience , John 14:15, I John 2:3. Failure to obey is sin (I Timothy6:10) have erred from the faith. The chief obstacle is getting people to obey (James4:17). Failure amounts to robbing God (Malachi 3:8 - 10).

In the next lesson, Part II of Grace Giving, you will discover that grace giving is anexample to the world and our children, measures our love and obedience, that giving is an act of faith, it will help us have a proper view of this world and reminds us of what God has done for us.

    1. Money management is basically What?

    2. If someone is undisciplined with money, what does this usually spell or mean?

    3. What types of giving and motives are the best?

    4. Did men give a tithe before the Law? If so, how did they give?a. b.

    5. Does Jesus expect His people to tithe now? Is tithing still Biblical today?a. b.

    6. If we tithe and come to church regularly and not get involved, are we in Gods will, thinking

we are doing enough by attending and tithing?

    7. Grace giving is a matter of what?

    8. If we fail to give by grace that which belongs to God, it amounts to what?

    Lesson 2Stewardship

The Grace of GivingII Corinthians 9:6-8 (8)

    Part II

INTRODUCTION : II Corinthians 8:1 - 15, talks about this grace giving. In the next chapter,9:6 - 8, it tells us that God is able to make all grace abound toward us, that we will have allsufficiency in all things to every good work. To put it plain. If you give by grace, you willnever lack anything from God. Ask yourself, Can I trust God? Can God? Can God lie? CanGod supply? Can I out give God? It all boils down to this, faith and obedience, for we knowGod can be trusted, He can, He cant lie, He will supply, we cant out give Him (Psalms 50:10 -12). But satan says, dont give, dont believe and obey. The only recourse Gods people have isto believe and obey and give by grace.

    I. TITHING IS AN EXAMPLE TO THE WORLD AND OUR CHILDREN.A. The world laughs and considers it a lack of power when God's work suffers.

Nehemiah 4:1-3. Sanballat and his friends laughed and mocked Gods work and Godsman, Nehemiah. Later, after the work was completed (because Gods people gave of themselves and their money), they stopped laughing. When Gods people dont give, thechurch suffers and the world laughs and mocks and thinks the Lord cant provide so thereis no need of Him or His church.

    B. Your children will not believe your testimony if they know you rob God Genesis19:14. You know the sad story of Lot and how he lost his daughters and their husbandsto fire and his wife turning to salt. He tried, in vain, to warn them, but they didnt

believe his report. Many parents lost their children, not only by death, but, also to theworld and Satans traps by not living and giving to God what belongs to God.

II. TITHING IS EVIDENCE OF YOUR LOVE AND OBEDIENCE TO GOD .Obedience is the test of love (I John 5:2, 3). If you love someone you will do all you canto please that person. John 14:15 says, If you love me, keep my commandments. Matthewsays a person will support what interests him (Matthew 6:21). Where is your heart? Look where your treasure is, there you will find it.

III. TITHING IS AN ACT OF FAITH .Hebrews 11:6. All that we do is to be done by faith, for it is, according to the Bible,

impossible to please God. So giving must be an act of faith in the part of those who give; for it pleases God when they do. Faith is simple to give a definition; its obedience.

    Lesson 2 (contd)

IV. TITHING GIVES YOU A PROPER VIEW OF THIS WORLD AS COMPAREDTO ETERNITY .The rich young ruler in Matthew 19:16 - 22, didnt see the value of eternity. He only

saw the present and what it has for him now. For you see he came to the right person, asked theright question, made the wrong decision and missed eternity, the blessing of Heaven. All

because he didnt have the proper view of this world compared to eternity. Luke 19:13,Occupy till I come. A person that gives by grace the tithe, is occupying this earth, but hisheart is on eternity, Heaven. All that you do in and through the local church is laying uptreasures in Heaven. How do you view this world in comparison to eternity?

    V. TITHING REMINDS US OF WHAT GOD DID FOR US .John 3:16, God gave. In light to what God has given through His Son, Jesus, can we do

anything less than have faith in His word (that He gave to us so we could believe that He is veryable to perform what He says he has promised) and obey. God gave -- let it be said, we gave.

CONCLUSION : God doesnt need our money. So why does He want us to give? So menwould live by faith in Him. To prove we love and obey Him and set an example to the worldand our children, that money isnt the center of our life, Christ is, and to bring control to our emotions and life. The list can go on but God wants you to trust and obey. Start today.

    1. Does our example to the world and our children really matter when it comes to giving?

    2. Tithing is the evidence of what?

    3. It doesnt take faith to give, just love and obedience. True or False

    4. Explain in your own words what Matthew 6:21 means.

    5. Did this matter of giving cause the rich young ruler to make the wrong decision? How?

    6. How do Christians lay up treasures in Heaven?

    7. What example did God give us to help us to give?

    8. In eight words explain why God wants men to give of their money.

    Lesson 3Stewardship of Money

    Part I

INTRODUCTION : To understand the Christians responsibility to God in money matters, twofacts must be remembered: 1) God owns everything (Psalms 24:1). The world, everything in itand all that dwells on it; God owns it. (Haggai 2:8 says that God owns the silver and the gold.2) God gives power to obtain wealth ( I Chronicles 29:12, 13). How to obtain this wealth fromGod. Matthew 6:33 says, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and allthese things shall be added unto you.

    I. FOUR ALTERNATIVES IN MONEY MATTERS .A. Money can be carelessly wasted in such a manner that no one profits therefrom .

Luke 15:13. The Prodigal son took his money and wasted it in such a manner that noone was benefited from it and it couldnt be regained. It was lost forever.

    B. Money can be spent with reckless self-indulgence and become harmful to those whoshould enjoy and benefit therefrom . Matthew 19:22. The rich young ruler didntwant to give his money to the poor but kept it for himself for self-indulgence. The poor didnt get to enjoy or benefit from his money. All lost out.

    C. Money can be hoarded in a miserly fashion so as to curse all connected therewith .Luke 12: 13-21. This farmer couldnt look up and see that the increase came from Godand give God the glory. Instead, he made plans to hoard up the increase and thought toeat, drink and be merry, the rest of his life. But God took his life. His increase became acurse to him and his family lost a father and a husband. Which would you prefer, aloved one or his money?

    D. Money can be used to bless mankind and glorify God . Proverbs 3: 9, 10. When wehonor God with the tithe from the "gross income" first fruits, He in return gives to us

plenty and running over. NOTE: Good stewardship demands that we use the 1/10

entirely for God, according to His direction and that we not misuse the other 9/10. Of the four examples above which way do you want to use your money?

II. GOD CALLS THE ONE-TENTH ( HIS ) TITHE .

Leviticus 27:30 - 32 says, the tithe is Holy unto the Lord.

God said the tithe belongs to Him and if anything belongs to God, it is Holy. A Christianis holy by His Word, and the tithe is holy by His Word also.

    New Testament passages that deal with tithing:Matthew 5:17 - 20 Luke 11:42Luke 18:9 - 12 Matthew 21:33 - 41I Corinthians 9:7 - 14 I Corinthians 16:1 - 4Hebrews 7:1 - 25.

To give the tenth of ones income is the most righteous and reasonable solution of thewhole problem of church finances ever suggested. 1) It is fair, alike to the rich and the poor inthe church. 2) It provides ample and sufficient funds to care for all the needs of the church. 3)It will bring relief to every worthy cause, agency, or institution fostered by the church. 4) It willremove all financial worries and difficulties and allow the full emphasis of the church to be

placed upon the spiritual matters. 5) It allows plenty of room for special gifts and the like.

    Lesson 4Stewardship of Money

    Part II .

INTRODUCTION : Lets look at the scriptural background of tithing. To give the tenth of ones income is the most scriptural plan known to students of the Word of God.

NOTE: If one rejects The obligation to give the tithe because it was part of the O.T., lethim be quickly reminded that practically all the other basic laws of stewardship come out to theO.T. where, for example did we get the idea of 1) Gods ownership of all things. 2) Mansstewardship under God. 3) God giving man power to get wealth. 4) Rewards for the righthandling of Gods affairs. 5) Punishment for selfishness. 6) Sinful use of God given things. 7)The conception of one true God. 8) The conception of the home. 9) The Sabbath. 10) Sinofferings. 11) The Lord Jesus. 12) Our suffering but triumphant Messiah. All of theseconceptions were given to us through the O.T.

    I. SEVEN SCRIPTURAL REASONS FOR GIVING THE TENTH OF ONES INCOME .

    1. Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek 400 years before the Law was given(Genesis 14:20). Next to the home and the Sabbath and some kinds of offerings for onessins, it is the oldest institution of God.2. Jacob entered into partnership with God and agreed to give the tithe (Genesis28:16 -22).3. After 400 years or more of the practice of giving the tithe, it was made part of Gods Law for His people (Leviticus 27:30 - 33).4. Jesus came not to destroy or annul Gods Law, but to fulfill it and place it upon amuch higher level. (Matthew 5:17 - 19; 21 - 48 says how He made it more perfect.)5. Paul taught that the gospel ministers should be supported just as the O.T.ministers were supported (I Corinthians 9:13, 14).

    6. The author of Hebrews insists that Christians are under greater obligation to givethe tithe to our ever-living Christ, than was Abraham to give the tithe to Melchizedek (Hebrews 7:1 - 9).7. Paul urges the Corinthians to become regular, systematic and proportionategivers. Does any Bible student doubt that the proportion he was here speaking about wasthe tithe? (I Corinthians 16:1 - 3).

II. THE CHRISTIAN MOTIVE FOR GIVING .A. We do not give to enrich God. (Psalm 50:12)B. We do not give to impoverish ourselves, that is, reduce to poverty (II Corinthians8:9)

  • 8/14/2019 SPACE Program, Book 15

    12/28

    Lesson 4 (contd)

    C. We do give because: 1) It keeps us from covetousness; Luke 12:15. 2) It establishesthe ownership of God, I Chronicles 29:14. 3) It proves the sincerity of our Love, II Corinthians8:8. 4) It is commanded of God, I Corinthians 16:1, 2. 5) It was God who gave first, Romans8:32 and John 3:16. 6) It pleases God, Hebrews 13:15, 16. 7) It brings Gods love, IICorinthians 9:7. 8) It costs, II Samuel 24:24, 25. 9) It brings Gods blessings, II Corinthians 9:6- 8.

Think about this contrast :Society says: The end justifies the means and everybody has a price.Scripture says: He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he

that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much (Like 16:10). If you cheat even a little, youwont be honest with greater responsibilities.

    1. What is the most scriptural plan to finance Gods work?

    2. Do some people reject tithing because they think that it is an O.T. law and doesnt apply tothe N.T. saints? Are they right?

    a. b.

    3. How many O.T. conceptions of the basic laws of stewardship are mentioned in our lesson?

    4. Who was the first man mentioned in the Bible to tithe?

    5. How many years was man tithing before the Leviticus Law?

    6. Can we enrich God by our giving?

    7. When we give, does it make us poorer?

Lesson 5The Tithe is the Lords

INTRODUCTION : Giving is one of the first means of worship to God, we learn this fromGenesis 4:1 - 7. Cain and Abel both brought an offering to the Lord to worship Him. Abelsoffering was pleasing to God but Cains wasnt. God had respect for Abels offering but notCains. The point here is that giving was part of their worship to God. Obedient giving is whatthe Lord will respect when we come to worship Him with our tithes and offerings out of anobedient and willing heart.

    I. THE MEANING AND THE WHY OF TITHINGA. The meaning of the word tithe is to give a tenth. When you tithe your income to

God, you are giving a tenth of your earnings (gross income, first-fruits).B. Why are we to tithe? It is a command. God says in Malachi 3:10, that we are to bring

the tithe into the storehouse (Church) that there be meat in His house and that Godswork can be done sufficiently.

II. TO WHOM AND HOW OFTEN DOES A CHRISTIAN TITHE .A. To whom are we to tithe? This is a question that many don't understand. People may

think that the tithe is theirs so they can give it to whom they want, but not so. Leviticus27:30 says, the tithe belongs to God. Jacob said, Of all that Thou shalt give me, I willsurely give the tenth unto Thee (Genesis 28:22) We give to the Lord.

    B. How often does a Christian tithe? The first Sunday after you receive your pay check.I Corinthians 16:2 says, Upon the first day to the week we are to bring our tithes andofferings to the church.

III. NEW TESTAMENT TITHING AND JESUS .A. Tithing is a base to start from. The Christian is under Grace and grace supersedes the

Law. Paul says (I Corinthians 9:13, 14) tithing is the way the gospel ministry of thechurch is to be supported as were the Levites; that is, out of the tithe (Numbers 18:21).B. Jesus and tithing . Jesus came to fulfill the Law (Matthew 5:17). Since tithing is part of

the Law, He had to tithe. But NOTE: He came to fulfill the Law. How? By Grace.Grace and truth came by Jesus (John 1:17). Paul says give by grace (II Corinthians 8:1 -15; 9:6 - 8). Jesus not only tithed, but He supported, approved and authorized the

    practice of tithing (Matthew 23:23).

    15/28

    Lesson 5 (contd)

IV. TITHING AND DEBT .Many people dont tithe because they pay their bills first and think that they dont have

anything left to tithe. Our first creditor is God and we should pay this debt first. It is not rightto take from God what rightly belongs to Him to satisfy another creditor (Malachi 3:7 - 9). Weare to tithe first; not from what is left over. We are told to bring the first fruits of our increaseto the Lord (Proverbs 3:9). You cannot afford not to tithe. If you are waiting for a bigger salaryin order to begin tithing, most likely you wont. If you cant tithe on your little salary, youwill not tithe on your much, later (Luke 16:10).

    V. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TITHES AND OFFERINGS .Tithes means a tenth of your income. offerings means any amount given over and

    above your tithe.

Think about it:Society says: It is more blessed to receive than to give.Scripture says: It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35)

    Lesson 6Spirit Controlled Finances

INTRODUCTION : Giving is a spiritual decision. The basic principle of our control of financial matters is a direct indication of our control on spiritual matters (Luke 16:11). Our goalis to have complete freedom from financial pressures and to provide a testimony of Gods power and love in His provision for us.

    I. FINANCES ARE A PART OF OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE .A. We need to be presented the complete truth . Because of some financially unwise

stewards, many people have a closed mind to seeing the spiritual effects of Biblicalfinancial principles and they miss great blessings. Luke 16:11, 13 says that finances havea big part in our spiritual life. The truth is, if ones pocketbook is not at Gods disposal, ones heart is probably not surrendered to God either.

    B. Abiding by Biblical principles of finances . When we abide by these God given principles of finances we will experience that they will bring a promise of blessings(Malachi 3:10; Proverbs 3:9, 10; Matthew 6:24 - 34; Proverbs 11:24, 25).

II. PROBLEMS OF CONTROLLING OUR OWN FINANCES; INSTEAD OF

MAKING GOD OUR FINANCIAL MANAGER .A. Debt often results : 1) Debt destroys testimonies, yours and Gods. 2) Debt produces

bondage to men instead of God (Proverbs 22:7). 3) Debt limits flexible response toGods will and leading (Matthew 6:24). 4) Debt presumes upon the future (James 4:13 -15; Matthew 6:34).

    B. Financial pressures dull spiritual perception and hampers effectiveness in Godsservice . You cant concentrate on God's will if you are worrying about tomorrow's

provision (Matthew 6:34). Serve God day by day and He will provide for you day byday.

    C. Many doors are left open for temptation to be unethical . (Proverbs 28:22). Read andstudy very carefully.

III. HOW TO FAIL IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING; OR GET POOR QUICK .

    A. Credit card mania. Be uncontrolled with credit cards.B. Borrow heavily for depreciable items so that you commit God's money to paying interest

on items that are already worn out.C. Abandon spiritual discernment and spend carelessly for frivolous things so that when you

really must have something, you have to go into debt to get it.

    Lesson 6 (contd)

IV. SOLOMON'S SIX SLIPPERY STEPS TO THE SLUMS .1. Be stingy : (Proverbs 11 24). Keep more than you need and not give to the ministry of

the Lord.2. Get rich quick : (Proverbs 28:22). Don't work it out, or think it through all the way.3. Be stubborn : (Proverbs 13 18). Dont listen, refuse financial advice and instruction

from the Lord and His ministers.4. Cultivate laziness : (Proverbs 20:13). Love, sleep and pleasures; dont work.5. Feed the flesh : (Proverbs 23 21). Any desire of the flesh that over comes you and

controls your will and life.6. Be crafty : (Proverbs 28:19, 20). Vain people use their craftiness to take advantage of

    the faithful.

    V. WHY GOD WANTS TO CONTROL YOUR FINANCES .A. All things belong to God : (Acts 14:15; 17:24). If everything belongs to God and He

created everything, then He must be a better financial manager than we are.B. God wants to demonstrate His love, power and provision (Matthew 6:25 - 34). God

knows our needs far better than we do. He wants us to depend on Him for He loves usand has the power to provide for us too.

    C. God wants to use finances to guide us, to protect our testimony and to uniteChristians (II Corinthians 8:1-9,14). God wants to protect us from harmful things, strengthen the Christian faith and change our direction from making mistakes financiallythat will hurt our testimony and fellowship with Him.

Lesson 7Stewardship of LifeI Corinthians 4:1-3

INTRODUCTION : There are four basic principles of Christian stewardship: 1) God's divineownership of all things (Psalm. 24:1; Haggai 2:8). 2) Stewardship is a sacred trust which allChristians should respect (I Corinthians 4:1). 3) The personal responsibility to manage, supervise and administer all things for Gods glory rests with every believer (Luke 19:13). 4)That every steward must give an account of his stewardship (Luke 16:2; Romans 14:12). All

phases of stewardship recognizes the ownership of God. The following scriptures present Godsownership of mankind: Deuteronomy 32:6; Romans 14:8; Ezekiel 18:4; I Corinthians 6:19, 20.

    I. THE PLAIN AND PROPER PERSPECTIVE OF THE STEWARDSHIP OF LIFEI CORINTHIANS 6:19, 20

    A. "Ye are not your own" Life is a gift of God. No man possesses himself. God has atwo-fold claim to every human life (Deuteronomy. 32:6). 1) Gods first claim on all menis because of creation. Hath He not made thee? Therefore we belong to Him, our creator. 2) Gods second claim is because He has sustained, preserved and establishedour life. The question, Hath He ... not established thee? is the fact God has preservedour life, provides the second claim which He holds on all men.

    B. "For ye are bought with a price" This phase shows that upon the Christian, God has athird claim. The Christian, having been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ and

bought from the slavery of sin, belongs to the One who paid the price. To the Christian,it should be evident that our life is not our own.

    C. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit This is the essence of stewardship. Our life is not ours to spend or use it as we please, but we are to so conductour life, which belongs to God, in a way that pleases Him. This life is entrusted to our care with the responsibility to administer it in a fashion to glorify God.

    II. THE CHRISTIAN WHO RESPONDS TO THE BIBLE TEACHING OFSTEWARDSHIP OF LIFE WILL LIVE;

    A. A sacrificial and holy life (Romans 12:1, 2)B. A crucified life. (Galatians 2:20)C. A separated life. (II Corinthians 6:17, 18)D. A life of self denial (Philippians 3:7)E. A life of submission (James 4:7)F. A yielded life (Romans 6:13)G. An unselfish life (I Corinthians 10:24)H. A life of subjection (I Corinthians 9:27)I. A mortified life (Colossians 3:5)J. A life of abstinence of ones desires (I Peter 2:11)

    K. A life fulfilling Gods will (I Peter 4:2)L. A life of obedience (I John 5:14)M. A life of witnessing (Acts 5:32)N. A life of love (Ephesians 5:2)O. A life of fellowship (I John 1:7)

CONCLUSION : After a careful study of the Word of God, one could easily see that God is thecreator of mankind and owns everything. Also, a Christian should be able to see the importanceof living for Christ. Christ paid the price for our salvation. He took our sins upon Him, took our debt and paid the price in full, by giving His life on the cross. If Christ would give His lifefor us to escape the judgment of Hell, shouldnt a Christian give his life in return and live for Christ?

    Think about it:

When life hands us a lemon, lets try to make lemonade. Lets forget our ownunhappiness by trying to create a little happiness for others. When you are good to others, youare best to yourself. Lets fill our minds with thoughts of peace, courage, health and hope, for our life is what our thoughts make it. Count your blessings - not your trouble!

    Lesson 8Stewardship of Talents

INTRODUCTION : To properly understand the stewardship of talents, we must realize two principles on which such stewardship is established. Also, the two basic principles of allstewardship must be kept in mind: 1) God owns all things. 2) We are to administer these thingsfor Him.

    PRINCIPLE NO. I

    I. The stewardship of talents is predicated on the fact that God expects all Christians to producegood works (Matthew 5:16; Ephesians 2:10).

    A) We must abound to every good work. (II Corinthians 9:8)B) We must be fruitful in every good work. (Colossians 1:10)C) We must be established in every good work. (II Thessalonians 2:16, 17)D) We must diligently follow in every good work. (I Tim. 5:10)E) We must manifest our good works. (I Tim. 5:25)F) We must be prepared for good works. (II Tim. 2:21)G) We must be furnished unto all good works. (II Tim. 3:16, 17)H) We must be a pattern of good works. (Titus 2:7)I) We must be zealous of good works. (Titus 2:14)J) We must be ready for good works. (Titus 3:1)K) We must be careful to maintain good works. (Titus 3:8)L) We must learn to maintain good works. (Titus 3:14)M) We must provoke others to good works. (Hebrews 10:24)

    N) We must show our good works. (I Peter 2:12)

    PRINCIPLE NO. II

II. The stewardship of talents is predicated on the fact that God expects all Christians toproduce good works because He has given them the capacity to do so.

    A. Every one of us is given (Ephesians 4:7). Every Christian is given a talent.B. Gave gifts unto men (Ephesians 4:7). Before Christ entered Heaven He gave a

commission. What is the commission? Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel toevery creature(Mark 16:15). He also gave gifts (talents) for fulfilling the demands of the greatcommission (I Corinthians 12:7; I Tim. 6:20). God has committed to His people truths; laws,

promises and powers. Alone with these, God has given the capacity through His Spirit; to teachand profess the truth, to pass and observe the laws, to claim and apply the promises, to exerciseand employ the powers. The capacity, strength, ability, desire and determination to properly usethe truths, laws, promises and powers are talents.

    Lesson 8 (contd)

In the parable given by Jesus in Matthew 25:14 - 30, He stated Seven Laws pertainingto the stewardship of talents.

  • 8/14/2019 SPACE Program, Book 15

    24/28

    1. The goods entrusted and committed to the servants belong to the Lord (Ver. 14, 15).2. The amount of the goods entrusted to each servant was determined solely by his

ability (Ver 15). Each one has at least one talent and all do not receive alike (I Corinthians12:11). When Divine providence has made a difference in mens ability, as to mind, body, estate, relation and interest, Divine grace dispenses spiritual gifts accordingly.

    3. Each servant was given full responsibility in handling the goods entrusted to him (ver 16 - 18). We are spiritual tradesman -- give of things of less value (worldly things) for those of greater value (heavenly things).

    4. Each servant was called on to give a strict account as to how he had handled hisMasters goods (Ver 19 - 25). The accounting time is certain (II Corinthians 5:9, 10). The timeof accounting is uncertain (Matthew 25:13).

    5. Each servant was required to show a distinct gain (ver 26, 27). It would be wicked todisobey and slothful to fail to act.

    6. The same reward and commendations were given to the servants who produced (Ver.20 - 23).

    7. The servant who refused to use the one talent given him suffered two great penalties(Ver 24 - 30). 1) He lost the talent he had. 2) He was cast to outer darkness, wept in despair, gnashed his teeth in bitterness and regrets (I Corinthians 3:11 - 15).

Think about it:Youll never meet a man who walked with God and gave his talents for Gods glory and

at the end of his life said, I wish I hadnt done it.

    2. Does God really expect all Christians to produce good works?

    4. Why does God expect Christians to produce good works?

    5. Does every Christian have a talent?

    Lesson 9Stewardship of Time

INTRODUCTION : The Bible teaching concerning stewardship points to Gods ownership of all things. This is true of time also. In Psalms 31:15, the Word teaches, My times are in ThyHand. The Bible has taught us that stewards must be faithful (I Corinthians 4:2). Therefore,we must use our time in the proper way with the help of the Holy Spirit.

    I. THE WAY CHRIST USED HIS TIME SHOULD SERVE AS AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL CHRISTIANS .

    A. Christ knew the "value" of time. (Luke 2:49)B. Christ knew the "limit" of time. (John 9:4)C. Christ knew the "use" of time. (John 4:34)D. Christ knew the "shortness" of time. (John 12:35)E. Christ knew the reward of time. (John 17:4)

II. BIBLICAL FACTS ABOUT TIMEA. Time is appointed to us from God. (Job 7:1)B. Time moves swiftly. (Job 7:6)C. Time for man is short. (Psalms 89:47)D. Time is allotted and must be used properly. (Psalms 90:9 - 12)E. Time must be passed in the fear of God. (I Peter 1:17)F. Time for mans life is so little then it vanishes. (James 4:14)

III. CHRISTIANS MUST KNOW THE TIME .Christians who are concerned about their proper stewardship of time Must know the

time (Romans 13:11 - 14). According to these verses, if saints know the time they realize it is:

    A. Time to wake up (verse 11) out of spiritual sleepB. Time to cast off (verse 12) works of darknessC. Time to put on (verse 12) the armor of lightD. Time to walk (verse 13) honestlyE. Time to put ye on (verse 14) the Lord Jesus ChristF. Time to make not (verse 14) provision of the flesh

IV. CHRISTIANS MUST REALIZE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE TIME .Christians who are concerned about their proper stewardship of time Must realize the

seriousness of the time (I Corinthians 7:29 - 31). According to these verses, because the timeis short, saints must realize:

    A. Time is not to be taken up with domestic cares (verse 29). Not to let spouse, childrenor family life take-up all your time.

  • 8/14/2019 SPACE Program, Book 15

    27/28

    Lesson 9 (contd)

    B. Time is not to be taken up with "sorrows" and "joys". (verse 30). Not to let your emotions be used by Satan to control you.

    C. Time is not to be taken up with "possessions". (verse 30).

    D. Time is not to be taken up with "worldliness". (verse 31). Anything that keeps us fromgiving our time to God is worldliness. NOTE: We are to use but not to abuse.

    V. CHRISTIANS MUST REDEEM THE TIME .Christians who are concerned about their proper stewardship of time Must redeem the

time. Why? Because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:15, 16). According to these verses, saintsare to realize:

    A. Time is redeemed by walking carefully (verse 15). Watch carefully how you live.B. Time is redeemed by living purposefully (verse 15). Intend to live life with a purpose.C. Time is redeemed by living worthily (verse 15).D. Time is redeemed by walking accurately (verse 15). Not as fools, but as wise people of

God. Walk carefully with a purpose. Put worth in your life and walk with precision.E. Time is redeemed by using opportunities (verse 16). Taking every advantage of time.

Think about it:The clock of life is wound but once,And no man has the power To tell just when the hands will stop -At late or early hour.

    Now is the only time you own;So live, love, toil with a will;

Do not depend upon tomorrow, for -The clock may then be still.Old Union Reminder
