Space Management Reference Data: An Overview

    Space Management Reference Data: AnOverview

Before working with space management reference data, you must be familiar withhow the software handles reference data in general. If you have not already done so,read and understand the following important concepts and procedures described in theSmartPlant 3DReference Data Guide:

    Custom attributes

    Symbol creation

Codelists (also referred to as "select lists")

    Naming rules

    Bulkloading

In the Space Management task, the reference data contains the requirements andproperties necessary to create areas, zones, and interference volumes. The spacemanagement reference data is defined in the Microsoft Excel workbook calledSpaceMgmt.xls. The software delivers this workbook to the [ProductDirectory]\CatalogData\BulkLoad\DataFiles folder.

Reference data determines the values that populate the various dialog boxes in theSpace Management task. For example, for a pipe attraction zone, the reference datafor the Space Management task populates theZone Propertiesdialog box. You canedit the specific values for the areas, zones, and volumes that are in your plant.

Space Management Reference Data: An Overview

    Space Management Sheets: An Overview

TheSpaceMgmt.xlsworkbook contains the reference data for the SpaceManagement task. A variety of pre-defined spaces are delivered with the software.

You can customize the delivered reference data in order to fit your company'sstandards or current project.

The sheets that are unique toSpaceMgmt.xlsare described below. For moreinformation on common sheets, refer to theSmartPlant 3DReference Data Guideavailable from theHelp >Printable Guidescommand in the software.

Space Group - Defines the hierarchy under theSpacefolder in the Cataloghierarchy. For more information, see theSpace Group Sheet, page22.

    Areas

Support Areas- Defines properties for a support area in the model. For moreinformation, see theSupport Areas Sheet, page13.

    Generic Zones

Hazardous Atmospheres- Defines properties for a zone in the model wherehazardous environmental conditions are present. For more information, see theHazardous Atmospheres Sheet, page14.

Security Zones- Defines properties for a zone in the model with secured access. Formore information, see theSecurity Zones Sheet, page15.

Personal Protection Zones- Defines properties for a zone in the model in which

personnel are required to wear personal protection equipment. For more information, see thePersonal Protection Zones Sheet, page16.

    Interference Volumes

Interference Volume- Specifies information about the interference volumes. Formore information, see the Interference Volumes Sheet, page16.

    Icarus Zones

These zones define properties needed by the Aspen Icarus Process Evaluator tocompute a cost that is based on Alias auto-routing. For more information, seeIcarus

    Open Steel Zones Sheet, page19.

    Note

Aspen Icarus Process Evaluator is a third-party software product thatallows process engineers to accurately evaluate the economic impact oftheir process designs.
