Space and Environment: Secret Lair

The Hyperborean Cannibal

For this part of the project we as individuals chose the title of concept that we would

research and develop on. For my concept development I randomly chose The Hyperborean

Cannibal, this I will be doing my research on, finding and developing ideas for the character

and the environment that we have been asked to model by the client.

Hyperborea

Hyperborea is a mysterious island field with snow, ice, heavy cold wind and mountains. Thisisland was based in the ancient Greek far to the north of Thrace. North of Thrace is an

ancient country of the southeast Balkan Peninsula north of the Aegean Sea. In past times it

extended as far north as the Danube River. The region was ruled over by Greeks in the

seventh century.

Hyperborea was usually described as a continent-bound land, bordered by the great earth-

encircling river Okeanos to the north, and the great peaks of the mythical Rhipaion

Mountains to the south. Hyperboreas main river was the Eridanos, which flowed south,

drawing its waters directly from the Okean-stream.

Hyperborea was believed to be a theocracy which was ruled by three priests of the god

Apollo. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, this god also had a twin sister.

These gigantic, huge kings where known as known as the Boreades, were sons or

descendants of the north wind Boreas.

Their capital contained a circular temple that was dedicated to the gods. There are lots of

stories behind the island Hyperborea, believing that Perseus travelled to Hyperborea and

was entertained by its folk when he went in search of certain Nymphs who guarded

treasures of the gods, or else the Graiai, swan-bodied hags who could reveal the location ofMedousa.

Since Hyperborea is known or from the Greek background, there are huge amount of Greek

historical statuses, this means that in my lair I could have one or more statues within it. This

could be statues; one of Zeus, Hades, Apollo and more. I could also have Spartan armour

with fascinating historical designs in gold.

Zeus

Zeus is one of the gods that the ancient Greeks believed in. They believed that Zeus was thefather of men who ruled the Olympians of Mount Olympus. Zeus is the child of another god

called Cronus. Zeus was also the youngest of hes siblings who were Hestia, Demeter, Hera,

Hades and Poseidon but ate them as soon as they were born; even a god was a cannibal. In

relation to my character book the cannibal aspect was inherited from Cronus which will be

passed down to my character.

Zeus was also known as the god of lightning who lives the sky and armed with lightning

bolts.

Zeus was the only son that was saved from getting eaten by hes dad and was then given a

rock in representation as Zeus to swallow. Zeus then became god of gods and later killed

hes own dad Cronus.

Cronus

Cronus is the god that gave birth to Zeus and other gods like hades and Apollo. Cronus is a

titan that eats all hes childrens after they are born meaning hes a cannibal which could

link to my character.

Cannibal

Cannibals are known to be originated from the West Indies and they were known for

practicing cannibalism. Cannibalism is the act of humans eating flesh or internal organs of

other humans. In the past cannibalism evolved on the fact that people were suffering from

starvation so eating other human being was no choice.

Today there are few tribes in Africa that still practice cannibalism and rituals on humans,

one of the famous tribe in Africa is known as Korowai, till present day its believed that they

eat flesh and internal organs as part of their culture. It is believed that pregnant women and

children are not allowed to participate in this ritual. These cannibals live in tree houses that

cause based in their territory and no other clans are allowed to enter or they will be killed

and eaten.

These cannibals are highly skilled in haunting things like, hunting and fishing for protein. This

could be included in my character in the sense that hes highly skilled in hunting and killing

humans has he has evolved in knowledge creating weapons from hes environment.

During the 19th

century to recent time there have been cannibals caught and arrested on

feeding on other humans. Examples are shown below.

Vince Weiguang Li

Its believed thats Vince Weiguang Li was born in Dandog, China on April 30, 1968. He then

came to Canada from china and became a Canadian citizen. Vince was named a cannibal

after attacking and eating a victims flesh on the bus.

Jose Luis Calva

Jose Luis Calva was born in Mexico City and was arrested for the disappearance ofhes

girlfriend. When the police showed up in hes house they found Jose Luis Calva eating on

human flesh which was hes girlfriend and was arrested for murder and cannibalism.
