About us:

To be able to touch buildings and shapes in designer stage, something tangible before it is actually build, then a scale model is the key in a design process to create a realistic scaled replica that can be viewed and admired on all sides. SPAAIJ is building scale models, since the early sixties, and grew into one of Europe’s largest scale model construction builders.

The company was started in1963 by K.J Spaaij Senior, to build high technical scale models. Today the daily ma-nagement is done by K.J. Spaaij junior who widened Spaaij into a versatile scale model construction company. From architectural ideas to scaled satellite models everything is possible. Through the years models are built in every form, on every scale and from beginning to end and some models are built to extend. Initially all models were produced exclusively by hand, through the years this changed into a more electronic process with a lot of technical equipment but all scale models of Spaaij have still a personal touch. SPAAIJ is a versatile modern company with a highly skilled team of model builders. An extremely modern equipped company that builds beautiful and professional models at a high market level!

The basic team SPAAIJ has a basic team of 5 people plus a strong team of freelancers that are with the company for decades. All people are building models with heart and soul.

Small, large and very large scale models of houses, buildings or objects are made . This may be based on a superficial level of detail, this creates a sketch model. Very particular characteristics can also be displayed and created so highly detailed models emerge. The construction of realistic engineering models, blow-ups and prototypes are among the possibilities as well. Naturally SPAAIJ also renovates models. Antique or old models who break down or get damaged, no matter how bad the damage is can be renovated to almost new models. Some models are built in a primary stage. If it needs to be modified in a later stage or extended, than this is no problem by SPAAIJ.


Technique SPAAIJ is equipped with the latest modern workstations to ensure precise working methods. Add to this a highly skilled team of employees with experience in architecture, colours and proportions, professional creations are made. Through the years different techniques are used. Once, the process of building was done manual with hammers and pincers but the process today is much more complicated and modernized. Today the latest techniques as 3-D printing and laser cutting are used. Each component is developed in computers and recorded. This makes it possible to edit material with milling and laser machines, so that the manufacture of parts and installation of lines are carried out automatically. Techniques from the past are also still used to create or restore models of high quality. Mandatory is manual labor from a skilled team that puts all together to create high quality models Combine everything with the knowledge of 50 years experience and highly quality models and replica’s on perfect scale are created! Almost all techniques can be integrated into a model. From lights to moving parts, special effects etc. all is possible at SPAAIJ. Depending on the budget possibilities have a wide range.


Accessories A model or replica comes with accessories. What type of accessories depends of the wishes of the client. There are two differed type of accessories: protection and technique. Protection A model or replica is an investment that needs to be showcased. Most of the time is this also the purpose. To protect a model or replica is than mandatory. This protection, depending of the scale and size, can be provide via the following options:

Technique Accessories When a model is built with light or special effects than there is a need for a control panel. This control panel can be placed directly next to the model but with the technique from today this can also be via an app, remote, tablet or computer. This means that a accessory can be digital or have shape

Transport All models need to be transported with care. Models or replica’s from SPAAIJ are protected during transport by a box. This can be a metal, plastic or wooden box with on the inside the best protection available. Foam, rubber, silicone or fabric depending what is the best solution for transport. Some models or replica’s will be transported in parts to its destination. A professional team of SPAAIJ travels with the model or replica to put the model or replica together on destination. All thinkable transports are possi-ble and all accessories will be with the model or replica.



The order process: When interested to place an order, director K.J. (Karl) Spaaij welcomes you into his company, or on location to discuss all details. With over 50 years of experience a scale model of SPAAIJ is always precise, detailed, accurate. What is needed for an order:

The purpose of the model The scale of the model Blue-print or building plan, brief sketches or pictures Sizes and measurements Technique wishes (light, movement, etc.)

When an order is placed the team will start working with:

The blue-print or building plan is converted to process able print.

All objects will be fully decompose: facades, roofs, doors, windows and individual parts will be individual put on a computer screen.

All parts will be created by the best technique available, this can be a laser cutter, end mill, 3-D printer and so on.

The base plate is made when needed . Then all comes together. Much attention is paid in

assembling the customized components and the order becomes tangible.
