Welcome to the 4th Annual Southwest Showcase Simmental Bull Sale. The Southwest Showcase sale has rapidly developed a reputation as a source of quality commercial and purebred herdsires. All of the respective programs represented utilize a strong AI program as well as very functional walking herdbulls. The bulls con-signed exemplify meat, muscle and performance. These calves are developed in ranching country and calving ease is never far from the thoughts of these proven programs. A number of these calves are slightly younger than some sales but it is always very interesting that we seldom lose a calf on fertility. The programs represented have stood the test of time so you can source your bull needs with confidence. Give the consignors a call to discuss the bulls on offer. There will be a cross section of individuals to fill your herdbull needs. I am very familiar with the bulls in this sale and available at the sale barn Saturday, Sun-day and Monday if I can be of assistance. Hopefully, you can join us on Monday at Heartland in Swift Current. Should you be unable to attend, it would be our honor to represent your interests in our usual confidential and professional manner. - Brian Bouchard

EPD ExPLANATIoNEPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go.

As typical with our other Kos-mo’s sons you can expect calving ease, solid growth, good hair, longevity and great temperaments. x-t simmentals first and foremost we would like to thank all the bidders and buyers from our previous sales, if it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t be here. many of you have been here and active at every sale and for that we are very grateful. We raise our cattle here in the cypress hills much as our family has for the last 105 years. there is no creep feeding, grazing alfalfa, and no magic feed rations. We calve our cows in april and may and wean in oc-tober. the bulls are hand fed grain and hay where we strive to have them gain 100 lbs per month. our goal is to raise our cattle using the same management style as our bull customers so they will work well for you. because of the age of the bulls at sale time, they will not be semen tested but they will be palpated and measured. We would like to take them back home until they are 13 months of age to semen test. once they are tested, we will deliver them to you within the three prairie prov-inces at our cost. this has worked very well in the past; in the last 3 years, we have not had a bull fail his semen test so we are confident in this pro-gram. these bulls are fertile – we have had bulls used naturally breeding cows at 12 months of age. if you have any questions about the bulls, feel free to call don or ryan anytime.

This heterozygous black calf will work very well on both black or red cows. He’s got that nice white money stripe that so many peo-ple are looking for in today’s commercial market. The RED LIGHT cows are well known to be very good producing cows with high milk EPDs; this is reinforced by this bull’s performance – look at his 205 day weight!

We sold a full brother to this bull through the sale last year to Mike Bochek. 87Z is a very attractive calf with a nice front end and mod-erate bone. 87Z was very sick for a month after weaning and it re-ally affected his performance. The good news is that it didn’t affect his genetics at all. The dam, 89S, is a cow you would really admire if you saw her; she is a real producer! Out of her last 4 calves, 2 heifers sold through the Agribition Simmental sale and tow bulls through this bull sale. We believe 87Z will be a calving ease bull. • 205d adj weight: 798lbs • ADG Oct 15th – Jan 3rd: 2.60 lb/day

Here are two sons of the Nikki cow we purchased as a bred at the Agribition Sale in 2011 from Sunny Valley, where she was the second high selling bred for $15,000. Nikki was the Supreme Champion Female at the Prince Albert Summer Fair as a bred and she’s turned into a hell of a cow; broody, deep-bodied, with nice small teats and lots of milk. 55Z & 56Z are similar in type, and both share the same depth of rib and good hair, however, 55Z has a bit more per-formance while 56Z is a little more moderate and smoother made. With “Red Ace” and “Odin” in their pedigree, these bulls should have calves that come easy but have above av-erage performance.Homozygous PolledHeterozygous BlackTwins

Heifer bull supreme! This guy looks good on paper and even better in person. 103Z combines a low 75 lbs BW with great performance, awe-some phenotype, and good hair. We expect his mother to be one of the great ones; she’s fancy, with a big hip, nice tight udder, tons of hair, and a sweetheart head. Her maternal sister had the high selling black bull at this sale last year as a 2 year old, going to Deeg Simmentals. We really like the Odin calves – they come early and have low birth weights, but also have good performance. 103Z himself had a gestation of only 276 days! His EPDs rank in the top 2%, 10%, 20%, & 40% respectively for CE, BW, YW, & WW - what an amazing spread. 103Z was the Champion Bull Calf at the Swift Current Pen Show against some pretty stiff competition. He is remarkably long, wide, and thick, with a massive hip, good depth and he’s still so very stylish and clean made. He moves freely and has that striking blazed face. His dam can literally be bred to anything and end up with a smokin’ calf that almost always ends up in the show pen. 72Z had the great honor of being named “Cattle-men’s Choice Bull” at the MHPS in December. 188Z is the youngest calf we have on offer, but still one of the most impres-sive. His dam is a great “Gunner” sired cow that was the high selling heifer calf at the Kimlake Dispersal. We liked her so much, we showed her as a calf. She has lots of milk, and a great profile. 188Z displays his Dam’s exceptional depth of body and smoothness throughout to a T. The Tumbler cow family was one of the very best at Kimlake and they are re-ally working here as well. They are also probably the strongest cow fam-ily in udder quality that we possess. 188Z is sired by our own red / non-diluter 2Tempting bull, a phenomenal “Temptation” son of our Abricot 356N cow. 2Tempting’s calves have great depth of body and good performance. 188Z really presses down the scales but is moderate in size, and has been one of Darby’s favorites from the start. If cow families are a high priority for you when looking for a herdbull then have a look here. His mother is tremendous producer that has put sons in this sale for the third year in a row. His grandmother, the 16P cow is one that we have really based our red program around. This maternal strength on the bottom side of the pedigree is no surprise with names like Red Label, Quorum and Chief Red Bear all showing up. A maternal brother sold in last year’s sale to Owen Schmitz who was our high seller. EDN Vico 40U scored 9 out of 10 for disposition on his Igentiy test. Dam is a smaller framed, big bodied Nugget daughter with a really nice udder. The Grand Dam EDN May 55M is the dam of EDN Sprout 48S, a bull used at EDN.

Here is an end of March ¼ Fleckveih blaze faced bull we are proud to offer. A long, low set, clean headed and tight sheathed calf with a different pedigree for many breeders. His EPD’s are in the top 10% of the breed for weaning, 15% for yearling, 35% maternal CE, 10% for MWT and top 25% for milk. Don’t overlook him because of his age. I wouldn’t mind a herd of cows that look and produce just like 223Z’s dam. Last year her bull calf sold to Donnie Zahn.

A mid-March calf that is similar to 166Z. Russian progeny have good early growth rates but moderate mature size. They are me-dium boned with a high muscle to bone ratio. You may want to run several Russian sons together for a uniform calf crop and to keep the frame size of your replacement heifers in check. 2R is one of those trouble free cows that quietly produces a top calf every year. Her only daughter has been retained. Sons have gone to Rick Loeppky and Rod Feil. One son is a current Herd Sire at EDN. Homozygous polled & Homozygous black

Sambo daughters can produce with the best of them and the nice uddered 17X has proven that with her first try. The Grand Dam was purchased at the M & J Herd Reduction sale.
