THE CLIENT

Southern Illinois HealthCare

The people of Southern Illinois Healthcare, a not-for-profit health care system, are dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of all of the people in the communities we serve. Our mission is guided by our values: compassion, collaboration, quality, stewardship, integrity, accountability and respect. Over 3,000 employees, along with physicians and volunteers, work together to achieve our mission and ensure that the health care needs of those served are met. We make this a reality by treating patients in SIH facilities, offering services in rural clinics, collaborating with some of America’s best hospitals and improving their communities through our charitable community benefits programs.

We make every effort to fulfill their not-for profit mission to “improve the health and well-being of all of the people in the communities we serve.” Besides providing charity care and financial assistance to patients, we want to positively impact our communities by extending care beyond hospital walls and into the neighborhoods where people live and work.

Community benefits are the programs and services that SIH offers to meet the community health needs, in partnership with schools, workplaces, churches and other community-minded groups. The Community Benefits Department seeks to bring health-related programs to the areas where they are most needed.

Cancer patients are best served when care is centrally provided and coordinated. On March 2, 2015, the SIH Cancer Institute opened in Carterville, Illinois. The SIH Cancer Institute is the answer to an unmet need in southern Illinois. In large part to

the generosity of southern Illinoisans, who saw this need with them, they give you the region’s first dedicated cancer treatment center. Their goal is to offer you the expertise of specially-trained physicians and cutting edge technology while easing the burden of a cancer journey. Let them help reduce the stress of logistics, so you can put your energy into healing.

It matters that they do this right. At SIH, they've put several key elements into place:

Prevention Detection Diagnosis & Planning Treatment Support & Survivorship End-of-Life

With these elements, their program is accredited by the Commission on Cancer. In other words, they are measured on how well they do. They are proud to say in 2014 they received the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Their program is one of a select group of only 75 U.S. health care facilities with accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor for surveys performed last year. While this is wonderful, their work is a continuous process of improvement.

The 43,000 square-foot center brings together specialty physicians, specialized allied practitioners and technology at a comprehensive freestanding outpatient facility, and provides multidisciplinary clinics in one location to streamline cancer diagnosis, planning and treatment. Services at SIH Cancer Institute include medical oncology, radiation oncology, oncologic surgery, clinical trials, infusion center, navigation, survivorship, psychosocial support, cancer rehabilitation and data management. The center imparts a soothing atmosphere with a light-filled environment, comfortable waiting areas, family and community meeting space, patient library, coffee shop, resource center, healthy café and healing gardens.

SIH Cancer Institute thanks all those generous people whose contributions – intellectual, organizational, artistic and financial – have made possible this healing and supportive destination.
