Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 4!
It’s time to celebrate, Clarke Road School! Congratulations to Irene
Newtown for becoming a finalist for the NSW Grandparent of the Year
Award. Irene is Will’s grandmother and has been a
dedicated volunteer since 2014. She supports Will’s
peers in neighbouring classrooms and always brings a
delicious slice or treat for staff! Irene attends the
celebration ceremony on the 24 October, held at the
NSW Parliament. Thank you Irene for your
dedication and good luck.
It is often said that when a small group of people
work together they can make a big difference. This is apparent with the
construction of ‘Cluck Road Farm’. The Rotary Club of Ku-ring-gai have
worked tirelessly to construct garden beds, build a chicken coop and renovate the old shed. This area will be
used as a work skills site for some of our students. Others will tend to the chickens and surrounding
gardens, providing a ‘farm to fork’ experience for them.

Excursions are a great place for students to demonstrate Being a Friend. Students practice
sharing equipment, waiting for their turn, helping others and experiencing new activities
together.

Please take the time to attend this event to celebrate and thank Ku-ring-
gai Rotary for their generosity and continued support of Clarke Road
School students and families.
Visit the Ku-ring-gai Rotary website, www.kuringgairotary.org.au, to see their different projects and how
we can all support this amazing club.
The chickens have moved into Cluck Road Farm! Last term, students watched the chicks hatch through the
Henny Penny program. Then, they watched them get bigger and now they have moved to Cluck Road Farm.
Thank you to Kathryn Vaughan for caring for the chickens, whilst studying for and getting her big bus
license!
Here at Clarke Road School we recognise that each child and young person learn in different ways and can
improve relative to their own capabilities. We value the
small steps in their learning. We recognise the need to be
flexible and responsive to each child’s and young person’s
well-being and learning needs.
For us to do this well, we recognise that, as a teaching
community, we need to continuously learn and make
appropriate changes to our teaching practices.
To assist us all in this endeavour, Cathy Treay and Verney
Diamantes are currently in USA attending a TEACCH
course and visiting schools. Thank you to Amy Owen and
Shanaya Dubash for attending a TEACCH course in
Melbourne during the holidays. We look forward to you
sharing your knowledge with us all.
Students and staff health and well-being matters. Towards the end of last term, we had much illness
amongst students and staff alike. If your child is sick, can they please stay at home until they are fully
recovered.
Last term, a key fund-raiser for the P&C was “Comedy for a Cause”.
Thank you to Deb Marsden, Ava’s mum, and her team for organising
this event and raffle. A total of $3059 was raised – fantastic effort!!
Please see the list further in the newsletter of all of the generous
businesses that donated prizes for the raffle. Please support these
businesses.
We are looking forward to a term of vibrant learning. The many achievements students make is something
we all value and celebrate each day, no matter how small. This takes a team of informed educators, who
understand our learners and value the small steps. Take a look at our Garraway class champions from last
term:
This term Diane Robertson will continue in her role within the Department of Education. She is creating
some amazing opportunities for our schools and continues to be a strong advocate for our students. While
Cathy Treay is on study leave, I will be in the principal role.
It is both a privilege and joy to be a part of the Clarke Road School community!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Warm Regards
