THE PAVILION AT SEACITY MUSEUM

SOUTHAMPTON CITY ART GALLERY

Dino Encounter 13 June – 27 September 2015From the time of their discovery as fossilised remains, dinosaurs have captured the public imagination and fuelled many life-long obsessions with pre-historic beasts. This exhibition brings you face to face with lifelike animatronic dinosaur models from the Natural History Museum and reveals how new techniques are helping us understand more about these amazing creatures than ever before. Find out how modern day experts from Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton are pushing the boundaries of our knowledge: How did giant Pterosaurs fly? How do you find fossils in the Arctic? And are dinosaurs really extinct?

See the powerful jaws on the skull of a Tyrannosaurus Rex up close, have a go at uncovering fossils in our mini dig pit or see how your foot compares to a real dinosaur footprint.

This is an exhibition for families, young children and dinosaur enthusiasts alike! Dino Encounter at SeaCity Museum is part of Dino Fest 2015, a Hampshire-wide celebration of prehistoric beasts. Visit www.dinofest2015.co.uk to start your dinosaur hunt, with the chance to win some great prizes!

Dan Holdsworth: Spatial Objects 9 May – 31 August 2015Galleries 1-4British photographer Dan Holdsworth explores the ways in which nature, architecture and technology operate within the landscape. Most recently, his work has become an investigation into both real and virtual representations of the geological landscape. This exhibition presents Holdsworth’s latest series, Spatial Objects (2015), alongside some of his most significant bodies of work from the past five years including Blackout (2010) and Transmission: New Remote Earth Views (2012).Shown here for the first time, Spatial Objects is the result of Holdsworth’s ongoing enquiry into contemporary photographic processes, and what he calls the ‘surface interface of the image’ within today’s digital, media-saturated visual culture. Employing cutting-edge technological processes the artist has created striking images based on scientific data collected from natural landscapes.Holdswoth’s work is held in many major international public and private collections including Tate (London), Victoria and Albert Museum (London) and the Goetz Collection (Munich).Dan Holdsworth will be conducting a tour of the exhibition on Saturday 20 June from 3-4pm, admission is free but please pre-book by calling 023 8083 4356.Image Credit: Spatial Object no. 166, Dan Holdsworth, 2015, C type Fuji Ultra gloss print
