The West Country Life readership is the perfect audience for my business. It is the norm to receive a phone call enquiry from one of my adverts rather than the exception. I expect to receive enquiries because of how my adverts

are published and I am not normally disappointed.

Mark Warren, Jenner Property Services

We have been regular advertisers in The Post since the early 1990s and have always enjoyed excellent response. We have made the most of The Post’s free design studio to ensure our adverts stay modern and current, and now

The Post is helping us to expand our coverage digitally via website and social media.

Martin Haigh, Partner at Haigh & Sons

Ensuring your marketing meets the right

demographic.

Typically, the people who view our products are higher-than-average earners who successfully combine jobs with family life.

They live in larger detached or semi-detached properties either on the edge of towns or in semi-rural locations. Many are employed in managerial and professional occupations and have at least two cars per household.

They are frequent users of the internet for a wide variety of purposes, including for shopping and keeping up with news, and their weekends are for leisure, when they can relax and enjoy spending disposable income.

Typical leisure activities might include golf, gardening, walking, dining out, antiques and theatre. While they buy goods online, they also like to support local independent retailers that o er unique, quirky and eclectic items.

They are technologically literate and comfortable with modern media such as tablets, smart phones, DAB radio and online streaming services.

Target Market Testimonials

I would like to thank the Local World team for all their help with our advertising. Not only have they been great with the normal paper advertising, but have helped with getting us started using Google plus,

Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. They also looked into helping with our website and other forms of marketing. They have gone above and beyond to help us.

Helen Stuckes, Branch Manager at Touchstone Residential

Commercial property agency is a results business. We have to ensure that we target our marketing carefully as our clients expect us to deliver results when we are spending their money.

We have worked with The Post and Western Daily Press over many years both in printed format and increasingly online and we have always been pleased with the results. That is why we are frequent subscribers.

Andrew Hardwick, WGH Property

We have been working with Local World for a few months now and the rst thing that struck me was their passion to help grow our estate agency business in Longwell Green. We have seen more and more activity on our

Facebook and Twitter pages and it is very exciting to watch a fairly new side of the business grow. Our representative obviously knows the business well and meetings have been set up in order to ascertain what we want to achieve as a company and how we are going to get there. We look forward to growing our business even more with their e ciency and helpfulness. In summary, they are totally professional and very helpful; a pleasure to have on our side.

Barry McKechnie, Besley Hill, Longwell Green

We have been regular advertisers in the Western Daily Press since we opened in 2010 and have found it to be an exceptionally useful marketing tool. On a user level, we nd the whole process extremely simple, with

regular contact from Sean and his team and, most importantly, we nd the reach and impact of any adverts we place actually produce results. Overall, we feel we get excellent value from our adverts and look forward to working together in partnership for many years to come.

Ollie Hollis, Hollis Morgan

We advertise frequently in The Post and West Country Life and receive a great response both in print and on the website. My rep Allison is extremely professional and will always do the very best she can to ensure I

receive the response needed. We did stop using print titles, but immediately noticed the impact on our website. Local newspaper advertising is essential to our business and I will always recommend it to other agents and auctioneers.

Joe PasqualeC

OMEDIAN Joe Pasquale isone of the nation’s favouriteperformers. But he didn’talways see himself on stage –

or as King of the Jungle in the hit TVshow I’m A Celebrity – and as a childwanted to study to be a geologist.

He is now busy realising thatdream, between touring the UK withhis new Joe Pasquale Summer Show, which will be arriving at Weston-super-Mare Playhouse this month.

The North Somerset Mercury caughtup with him before he makes his tripto the seaside ask him 10 questions.

Joe, you are one of the UK’s mostpopular entertainers. But youwe re n’t always on the stage, havingworked at Smithfields Meat Marketand as a welder. Did you alwayswant to be a comedian? No, not really, it just sort ofh app e ne d .

I don’t think I ever thought I wasfunny, it’s the audience that dictateswhat and who they deem funny.... Ialways wanted to be a geologist, butd id n’t have the qualifications, which iswhy I’m now studying with the OU(Open University).

You were crowned King of theJungle in the TV series I’m ACelebrity... Get Me Out of Here. Youwere also the first celebrity toearn full stars at a Bushtuckertrial. What was the worst thing youate in the jungle? I had no eating trials while I was inthe jungle, all of mine were physicaltrials, but the worst thing I ate, whichwas part of one of our meals thatsomebody had won, was a crocodile’sfoot. It tasted like chicken.

If you had to go back to the jungleagain, which two people wouldyou take back in with you andwhy ? Janet Street-Porter and Paul Burrell, because she was a great cook and hecould be my butler.

You are famous for your squeakyvoice? Do you talk like that atho me? To be honest, I don’t think myvoice is that squeaky, but I have hadmy voice for over 50 years.Obviously, if I’m doing voice-overwork it’s accentuated a bit, but it iswhat it is.

You sing a song called ‘I Know ASong That Will Get On YourNe r ve s’. What song gets on yournerves and why? Anything sad, I like uplifting songsand music.

You are also an accomplishedactor. If you could appear in asoap, which one would it be andwhat sort of character would it be?A baddie or a goodie? I’d like to be in E astEnders, and I’dlike to play a baddie in the Vic, andbe a mate of Danny Dyer’s.

You used to hate flying. But in I’ma Celebrity you had to do a taskfrom an airborne helicopter. Howwas that? At the time, it was pretty scaryhanging from a helicopter, but as I’ddone a parachute jump the weekbefore I felt it was easier than that, atleast I had safety wire while I was onthe helicopter. But as a result of thatshow, it cured my fear of flying andnow I have a private pilot’s licence.

I am guessing, like othercomedians, you get heckled.W h at ’s your worst hecklingex p e r ie nce? To be honest I rarely get heckled, Ithink worst thing that happened wasthat somebody actually died while Iwas on stage singing: “I know a songt h at ’ll get on your nerves.” O bv iou s ly,I had to cut the show short.

What comedians inspire you? Bob Monkhouse, Tommy Cooperand Norman Wisdom. Sadly none ofthem is with us now.

And finally, what do youremember best. First kiss or firstca r ? First car. 1964 Ford Anglia.

Joe appears at the WestonPlayhouse on July 30. Tickets are £20and can be booked by calling 0193464 5544.

BRISTOL Burlesque Festivalis set to return bigger, bolder and more glamorousthan ever – and this year’s

star attraction? An 84-year-olds t r i p t e a s e.

World-renowned Lynn RuthMiller, a comedian and burlesquestar who has appeared on B r i t a i n’sGot Talent, will take to the stage atRip Roar Comedy Club for the finalnight of a four-day spectacular inwhich the city’s thriving burlesquescene will be propelled into thespotlight.

Now in its third year, BristolBurlesque Festival continues toattract world class acts, and isabout far more than just thedancing, organiser TuesdayLaveau said.

“The scene in Bristol is abso-lutely thriving,” dancer MissLaveau said. “Burlesque has gonein and out of fashion over the years, but typically becomes very popularin the years following a recession.

“The scene in Bristol is just get-ting bigger and bigger, I dance allover the world and people knowabout Bristol Burlesque.”

As well as promoting the art ofburlesque in Bristol and the SouthWest, the festival prides itself onputting on an amazing show byincorporating comedy, drag andc ab a re t .

“Comedy and burlesque go handin hand,” Miss Laveau said. “Andt h at ’s why we are so excited to beholding the final event at Rip Roar, which puts on amazing comedynights in the city. It’s a great venuewith an amazing stage.

“I would say to anyone who hasnever been to a burlesque showbefore to come along. If you don’tknow quite what to expect, all I cansay is you are in for an amazingnight out – just be sure to comewith an open mind.”

But one of the main things Bris-tol Burlesque Festival hopes toachieve is to promote positive bodyimage to its largely female audi-ence. Co-producer of the festivaland drag act Miss Dis said: “We tryto represent women of all sizes, andt h at ’s something we are really keenon. We want everyone in the audi-ence to see someone on that stagethey can relate to.

“Lynn Ruth Miller is just incred-ible. She’s 84, 4ft-nothing tall and isjust an absolute hoot.

“She puts on such a good showand we are so thrilled to have herappearing at the festival.”

Other acts to grace one of thethree stages at this year’s festivalinclude Rubyyy Jones, Lydia L’Sca-bies, Dave the Bear and San Fran-cisco’s Fauxnique – a female dragartist who, Miss Laveau says,“pushes boundaries” in the in-d u s t r y.

“People work hard for theirmoney, we know that,” said Miss

Dis. “So what we are promising isan amazing night out withoutbreaking the bank.”

Thursday night’s show Darkl yDreaming Divas takes place onSeptember 3 at the Queenshilling, the second show – Exclusivity –takes place on Friday, September 4,at Smoke and Mirrors bar, and thegrand finale, Garden of Earthly De-lights, is on Saturday, September 5,at Rip Roar Comedy Club.

What is burlesque?

Burlesque is a French wordderived from the Italian“burle s co” and the Spanish word“bu rl a” which means to “j oke”.

The art of burlesque datesback to Ancient Greece, andarrived in the UK in the 18thcentury, when it largely attractedthe middle classes.

Victorian burlesque becamepopular in West End theatres in

the 19th century. Shows wereoften parodies of musicalsadapted with a risqué style, often mocking theatrical andmusical conventions.

Burlesque became popular inAmerica after a few showstravelled over from London intoBroadway theatres. Whileburlesque went out of fashion inEngland at the end of the 19th

century, the American style ofburlesque flourished, anddeveloped an increasing focuson female nudity. Exotic “co o ch”dances were brought in andshows were hosted in clubs, music halls and theatres.

In recent years, it has becomepopular again, with a focus onthe glamorous burlesque seen inthe US.
