Welcome back to everyone for our busy
term 4. This is the term where we assess the progression the students have made
during the year and finalise our plans for next year. Attendance and engagement of students in the classroom continue to be a
high priority which is addressed through Quality Teaching and delivering the
syllabus content to the student that is relevant to their interests and ability. We look forward to celebrating our
achievements for this year and are enthused by what we can achieve next
year.
The HSC exams commence next Monday 14 October 2013. We wish our students all the best and trust that they will achieve
the results that their hard work has earned them. The Year 12 Formal is on
Monday 11 November 2013, which formally concludes their time at South Grafton High School.
Students must make every effort to wear
the correct school uniform which is outlined below: Junior Uniform Girls: White polo shirt with school emblem Green tartan skirt Grey mid length shorts Boys: White polo shirt with school emblem Grey shorts Winter: Unisex red jumpers with school emblem Long grey pants may be worn (no track pants)

Senior Uniform Girls: Bone skirt White polo shirt with school emblem Boys: Bone shorts White polo shirt with school emblem Unisex Sports Uniform: SGHS school sports shirt SGHS school sports shorts – 2 lengths available (available from the school retail shop) Or Plain gold polo shirt and bottle green shorts The wearing of sports uniform on the days students do PE is allowed ONLY for the duration of the PE class. Students must bring their sports uniform with them to school and change into it for PE and then change back to their school uniform for the remainder of the day. Footwear MUST be fully enclosed black leather lace-up, buckle or Velcro. Due to Workplace Health and Safety Acts, covered sturdy footwear MUST be worn at ALL times by ALL students in ALL lessons.

Years 7 to 10 assessment period for the
end of this year begins on 4 November 2013. This is an important time for the
students as their results indicate what they have achieved this year and gives
them a starting point for next year to continue their progression. They should be preparing for these assessments now to
maximize their results.

Thank you to Students In September, the Gate to Plate Food and Wine Festival was enjoyed by many locals.
Blake Muddle of Year 11 volunteered for two days and had an amazing experience
working alongside many our local chefs. Several Year 9 students also assisted in waiting on the crowds - Georgia-Rose
Munro, Emily Van Dalsen, Jessica Franklin, Angus Grace and Bryce Salmon. Well done
and thanks! Board of Studies Literacy and
Numeracy tests for Year 10 and 11 students. This is an optional online test
for students intending to leave school before completing their HSC which may be useful in their resume. The tests are 60
minutes long and have 60 multiple choice questions. Testing will be conducted on
the library computers from 24 to 30 October 2013. YOU MUST CONTACT MR LAYBUTT
BEFORE 11 OCTOBER 2013 to be enrolled in this test. Once enrolled you

Most of our students are putting in a lot of
effort with the Challenges and some fantastic results keep being produced. It
is good to see how enthusiastic they are at trying to beat their own time. Well done to everyone who took part in our
times table challenge and congratulations to the winners below.

Language News The wonderful Language Perfect people
have given us free use of Language Perfect with existing logins until the end of
the year. So please do your language skills a favour and get on the computer. Mrs Lancaster and Mrs Benn wish our Year
12 French and Japanese students all the best in their upcoming HSC exams.

Duke of Edinburgh At the end of last term a group of keen students from the Duke of Edinburgh class
embarked on a day journey to the
Gibraltar Range National Park. The students completed two walks for the day,

the first a 6km walk to the ‘needles’
lookout and the second another 6km return walk to the ‘Murrumbooee
Cascades’. Both walks took the students through some diverse vegetation and
terrain. The walks helped students meet the requirements of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. A big thank you to Mr
Laybutt for driving the bus and participating in the walks with the class.

South Grafton High School’s drum band Dunbe' are playing at the above derby and
Clarence Valley Roller Derby League are donating $100 for Dunbe' to get to school
spectacular for their time slot.
