Dear readers of “Jelgava in figures”!It is important if every city can implement and use their history and experience in the

fundamental growth. During the times, aim of the city is to provide inhabitants with stability and predictability– developed infrastructure and educational processes, high employment rate, cultural events, as well as stable economical growth and welfare.

These are long term processes that depends on each of us. There is no doubt that Jelgava`s power on global scene lays within ability to go one step ahead of the time – to implement processes of tomorrow. Effective investment projects allowed to rank Jelgava among Europe`s Smartest cities. It is an evaluation for a Jelgava`s ability to offer its inhabitants solutions powered by technology – mobile citizen e-cards for a transportation and social service needs, as well as many other new processes have been improved – such as smart traffic flow and intensity sensors, smart city lightning sensors, security cameras and of course detailed analysis of data and operational information.

Risk analysis and prediction is one of the main tasks of city council. Surveilance cameras have improved the security in the city. Attractive environment, jobs, comfortable daily life, kindergartens, scools, social support programms, tailored educational programms for all ages – we all toghether are interested to provide stable growth.

We need high intelectual and educational potential to manage and improve the solutions and processes listed above, that is why city`s priority is education. Our main task is to provide youth with needed skills and knowledge. The presence of Latvia University of Agriculture provides higher educational programs and it is the reason why students do not have to leave their town or country for studies. When attracting youth, when changing the way of thinking and models of collaboration, our task is to join science and production processes together. Jelgava Business Incubator`s experience proved how collaboration between scientists and innovators can show excellent results –biological baby food, eco cosmetics, construction material testing laboratory, unmanned aerial vehicles – we can do that only by joining all the system together– smart, educated and active people of Jelgava from kids to seniors.

Only this type of city and its inhabitants can compete with other cities in Latvia, Europe and global scene.

I would like to invite you to read Jelgava`s newest development article “Jelgava in figures”, get new reveals and see the opportunities!
