INTRODUCTION
DESIGN IS SOSTEL’S BASE ACTIVITY FOR OFFERS AND PRODUCTION OF KABEL SERIES BED HEAD UNITS,
AND THEY ARE MADE TO CUSTOMER’S SPECIFICATIONS.
Through the appropriate use of technical standards, calculations, customer specifi cations and drawings the
necessary procedures for the production of the electrical equipment is defi ned.
Design is an activity that, thanks to a concentration of knowledge, actions, methodologies and tools, allows
Sostel to organize and produce solutions for the production of multiple models, currently more than 12, ranging
from a single channel for the passage of electric cables or gas pipes, to devices with direct and indirect lighting
and more complex units, up to the suspended ceiling units.
Using CAD systems, Sostel creates technical drawings that allow customers to decide in advance where to
place the various power sources and electrical components. The layout, approved and signed by the customer,
becomes Sostel’s only offi cial production document.

PRODUCTION
PRODUCTION IS THE SET OF OPERATIONS THROUGH WHICH GOODS ARE CREATED, PROCESSED AND /OR
MODIFIED, WITH THE USE OF PHYSICAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES, TO MAKE THEM APPROPRIATE TO MEET
THE NEEDS.
Interpreting this thought in its daily production, Sostel sets the goal of “delivering products that provide value
for the customer.”
At Sostel, the term production refers to product quality, an important parameter related to the cost, service and
value-added of the single person that works there.
The production cycle starts with the bed head unit layout, signed by the customer: various aluminum profi les
are processed, with the use of numerical control machines, then taken to the paint-shop, assembled and wired,
according to customer’s requirements.
Sostel is ISO 9001:2008/ISO 13485:2003 certifi ed and produces and tests the bed head units according to
Directive 93/42/EC, with certifi cation by IMQ , ensuring the complete reliability of the product.

DESCRIPTION
The power supply units for the medical use of the KABEL
series, combine technical and functional solutions into one
unit in order to make the patient’s stay in the hospital more
comfortable.
Designed for hospitals, nursing homes, etc.,
KABEL series units exploit the modularity and fl exibility of
their components to meet the increasingly demanding
requirements of ergonomics and design, diff using light in
a proper and pleasant way.
The various distributed services: electrical, medical gases,
alarms, data transmission and diagnostics, are placed on
the front part of the bed head unit, easily accessible to both
the patient and the hospital staff and are well integrated in
the diff erent profi les, made with rounded forms to facilitate
cleaning and to prevent improper use as a base to support
objects and more.
All KABEL series units are composed of 2 mm-thick extruded aluminum profi les, anodized or painted with epoxy
powders in RAL colors or wood fi nish, depending on customer’s choice. The diff erent units are obtained by
combining more than one profi le, allowing to meet the diff erent needs.
The lighting parts are protected by a polycarbonate screen, designed to provide the best diff usion of light.
The lamp unit, consisting of direct, indirect and night light, with the necessary bulb sockets, ballast and starter is
assembled on a single base that is suitably painted to better refl ect the light.
Designed to facilitate maintenance, lamps are attached to the
profi le structure without the use of screws, and are connected/
disconnected from the electrical cabling of the bed head unit using
a single connector.
Designed and built by Sostel in accordance with Annex II of
Directive 93/42/EEC for medical devices, the Kabel series bed
head are classifi ed as Class IIb and are customizable with the
following choices:
• number of beds
• total length of the device
• wall or ceiling mount
• color and surface finish
• types of components: electrical, data transmission etc.
• support for accessories such as monitors, IV bars and hooks etc.
• preparation for the type and number of medical gas outlets.
6
CHANNELS
The diff erent types of Kabel series bed head units are obtained by
combining nine diff erent profi les that have “channels” with the following
functions:
• lighting;
• distribution of electricity, alarms reporting and communication lines;
• distribution of medical gases.
LIGHTING CHANNELLighting services are placed in the top section of the bed head unit in a profi le
that shows wide connection radii to produce diff erent optimal angles for
direct and indirect light, covered with a polycarbonate screen, designed to
provide maximum illumination.
The interior of the profi le is designed to house high (A) and low (B) voltage
wiring in separate sections.
Lighting is structured in the following ways:
• Ambient Light: indirect, with compact, linear fl uorescent
lamps with starter or electronic power units of 18, 30, 36, 55
or 58 W (or combinations of them);
• medical light: direct, with two 18 W fl uorescent lamps;
• reading light: 18 W fl uorescent lamp;
• night light: 15 W max incandescent lamp or LED lamp.
B
AA) High-voltage wiring.
B) Low-voltage wiring.
7
DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL FOR ELECTRICITY AND DATA
The electricity distribution services can
be housed directly in the top profi le of the
bed head unit or in a separate dedicated
front profi le.
The front profi le solution is unique in
that the support which holds the various
signal and communication outlets is fi xed
to the profi le without screws, with the
aid of hooks, while maintaining an IP40
insulation and, when opened, is supported
by cords, for easy, safe installation.
Based on the individual need, electricity and signals can be distributed using:
• sockets, Schuko and UNEL, with or without power indication led, protected or not by fuses and circuit
breakers;
• buttons;
• warning lights;
• switches and buttons to control lights;
• sockets for data (RJ45) and telephone (RJ11-RJ12);
• nurse call outlet;
• equipotential grounding.
CHANNEL FOR MEDICAL GASES
The circuit dedicated to the medical gas system is inserted in a separate channel, fully mechanically separated
from the other profi les.
Integrated into the structure, without the need for additional wall mounting, this channel houses medical gas
tubing and sockets that can also be placed in a special separate box.
Up to six tubes can be installed in the channel, for the distribution of
the following medical gases:
• oxygen;
• nitrous oxide;
• vacuum;
• compressed air;
• any pipes for the passage of water can be enclosed in another
channel.
