● Used to certify that prospective college athletes are
eligible to play NCAA sports at the Div 1 and Div 2 level
● Reviews academic record, SAT or ACT scores, and
amateur status
● Students can begin registering with the NCAA Eligibility
Center as a high school sophomore
● Profile – no charge (Div III or Undecided)
● Certification - $75 (Div I or Div II)

Standardized Tests
● PSAT, SAT, ACT
● Standardized tests are one of the Top 3 factors in college admissions
● A great score can lead to merit-based scholarship opportunities

PSAT● Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (Oct. 10th)
● Purpose: familiarity with the questions and exact directions students will see on the official SAT
● Taken fall of 9th, 10th & 11th
● Scores available in December
● Both sections are scored out of 760 with a maximum high score of 1520
● NMSQT: 11th grade students with qualifying scores are eligible for the National Merit Scholarship
SAT
● Redesigned SAT was introduced in March, 2016
● 2 sections: Evidence-based Reading/Writing, Math
● Essay section optional (check w/ specific colleges)
● Return to 1600 scoring scale (800 per section)
● No penalty for guessing
● No more obscure vocab words
● Aligned more with what is being taught in high school
● Traditionally taken for the first time in Spring of junior year
● FREE Mock SAT at Saints campus in January (dates TBD)
SAT Subject Tests
● Required by some schools (Cal Tech, Harvey Mudd, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, MIT, Pomona, Rice, Tufts, etc.)
● Recommended by many schools (Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Stanford, USC, UC schools, etc.)
● Each test is 60 minutes (can take up to 3 in one day)
● Math Level 1 (through geometry & Algebra II)
● Math Level 2 (through trig and precalculus)
● Science: Biology E/M, Chemistry, Physics
● English: Literature
● History: U.S. History, World History
● Foreign Language: Spanish, French, Latin
ACT
● Scores in 5 content areas
● English, Math, Reading, Science, Writing
● Curriculum based achievement test (what you learned in
school)
● Top score is a 36

Things to Remember
● This is a developmental process, it is very early to make permanent
decisions about the future
● You may be more “ready” to discuss college right now than your son.
Keep it light. You can start researching the $$$ now, but do not (if
possible) lay it out now to your son.

and family is unique.
