Beloved Family,

As our FBCD Nominating Committee

begins to consider whom to recommend

to the church to fill some of the many

leadership positions of our church, I

hope that all of us will consider how

God is working in our lives today.

Scripture teaches us (cf. 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, Ephe-

sians 4) that God gives “spiritual gifts” which empower the

individual Christian’s ministry and which we are to use to

serve others. As Henry Blackaby noted in Experiencing God,

“a spiritual gift is a manifestation of God at work through you.”

As such, we ought to seek God’s counsel and commit ourselves

to hearing what He has to say about what He wants us to do.

This is even true regarding our service to our church! Too

often, it is easy to mistake the activity of our lives (both in and

out of church) for an active relationship with our God and Sav-

ior, Jesus Christ. But they are not the same. Investing several

extra hours weekly in numerous church activities, community

organizations, school groups, kids’ athletic teams, etc. does not

necessarily foster a healthy relationship with your Lord.

Now this is eternal life: that they

may know You, the only true God,

and Jesus Christ whom You have sent….

John 17:3

In his book, Classic Christianity (See it at Amazon.com),

Bob George notes that “the Christian life is starting with

Christ, then spending the rest of eternity discovering more and

more of what we already have in Him...” (p. 57). None of us

have to be involved with three committees and other ministries

at church to know Jesus better. We strengthen our relationship

with our Lord by committing ourselves to time with Him: in

reading the Bible, in meditation on His Word, in prayer, in fast-

ing. George (p. 137) quotes John 17:3, “Now this is eternal life:

that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ

whom You have sent,” and he notes, “That is the real goal of

the Christian life! Knowing Christ!”

Please don’t misunderstand what I’m saying. I am not saying

that your fellowship and participation at FBCD is unimportant.

It absolutely is vital. Recall Hebrews 10:24-25: “24 And let us

2 NEW GROWTH GROUPS SET TO BEGIN MAY 22!

Growth Groups help to nature spiritual growth in a small group setting!

Living Out the Mind of Christ A Study for Anyone - Led by Brooke McClintock

What is the mind of Christ? Can

we really live out Christ’s mind?

How, and why should we? These

are all questions that might arise

when one reads the title, Living Out

the Mind of Christ.

In the book Dr. Ben Gutierrez

walks his readers through practical

application in our daily lives as how

we can actually live out the mind of

Christ. Though this concept sounds

scary and almost unattainable, we are called to it!

Through the book of Philippians we come to see the can,

how, and why of the questions previously stated. With a focus

on Phil. 2:1-11, Paul begs Christians to take heed of his words

to live in such a way that reflects Christ’s mind or attitude.

Then Paul goes on to tell us why. Paul does not beat

around the bush with his reasons. He reminds us of Christ’s

attitude while fulfilling God’s will. Paul basically gives Chris-

tians NO EXCUSE as to why we all must be like-minded with

Christ; because of what Christ did for us!

If you seek to intertwine your life more and more with

Christ, then this class will see to it that you do. By prayerfully

seeking God’s word, you can develop a mind that begins

to look more like our Lord and Savior every day! Join us for

this exciting journey through Living Out the Mind of Christ!

Courageous Living A Study for Men - Led by Don Peacock

MEN: Take the next step

toward Courageous Living! Come join us starting on May 22nd

for a 5-week Men’s bible study based

on the movie Courageous. The first

week we will watch the entire movie

together as the foundation for the

study. It will take just over two hours.

The next four weeks, will use clips

from the movie and a workbook to

focus on each of four key areas:

RESPONSIBILITY – serving, protecting, and casting a vi-

sion for the family

PRIORITIES – focusing on eternal things rather than what

is temporary

LEGACY – recognizing a man’s potential impact as a

godly role model

FAITH – increasing in wisdom and strengthening a man’s

identity in Christ

These 4 weekly sessions will be held on Wednesday eve-

nings from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Come join us as we seek God’s

will for our lives and become the courageous leaders of our

families that He has called us to be.
