Legends come to life in April Our April 18th meeting features David Simpkins, Sauk Center Herald Publisher and Leif Erikson Lodge member.

David will share stories around the Askeladen folk legends. These legends were collected by Jorgan Moe, a poet and pastor of Olberg Kirke, where David’s ancestors were from. This will be an evening of storytelling and legends.

Norwegian Exchange Buddy Weekend – June 22nd – June 24th

2018 commemorates the forty-fifth U.S./Norwegian Reciprocal Troop Exchange Program. Over one hundred co-ed Norwegian Soldiers will participate in this fantastic program at Camp Ripley, Minnesota in June 2018. Applications for hosting a Norwegian Home Guard Soldier for the Buddy Weekend are now being accepted.

The Buddy Weekend is Friday, June 22 through Sunday, June 24, 2018. The Buddy Weekend was established so Norwegian Soldiers could experience American culture and food with a Minnesotan host. By sponsoring one or more Norwegian Youth Soldiers you are participating in a unique and rewarding program of international exchange that provides lasting friendships and experiences. Although not required, homes with high school and/or college age children are encouraged to be hosts for the Norwegian Youth Soldiers aged 18-20. Accepted host families will receive a selection letter with more detailed information. A Host Family Application will need to be filled out.

Help us Make some Dough Our Lodge needs money to pay for our programming, and other club expenses. With the success of our Jule (Christmas) Bake Sale it seems only natural to have a Mor’s Dag (Mother’s Day) Bake Sale. It’s a great way to combine Norwegian culture with fundraising and a great way to learn how to make lefsa from the professionals. Please consider how you can help based on this schedule: May 5th: Lefsa dough preparation day, Salem Lutheran Church, 8 a.m. - noon May 6th: Lefsa making day, Salem Lutheran Church, 8 a.m. – noon May 7th: Bake sale selling,Salem Lutheran Church, 9 a.m. – noon We also appreciate any baked goods you are willing to make and donate for the sale. You can drop them off the morning of May 7th at the church or call an officer to make earlier arrangements.
