Strumming Practice

The following strumming patterns may help us match the strum patterns of new songs. It would also allows us to slow down or speed up the tempo very easily. To help improve the speed of the chord changes while maintaining the strum pattern, I’ve included some sample chord progressions that can be practiced. Each strum pattern is numbered, which will allow us to call out ‘Pattern 3’ for a specific song, etc. Hope this helps,Carlos

Pattern 1! ! ! ! ! ! Pattern 2

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &

Pattern 3! ! ! ! ! ! Pattern 4

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &

Practice using these set of 4 chord changes:

G - D - A - D! ! ! ! G - D7 - G - C ! ! ! G - C - G - DG - D - Am - C! ! ! G - Am - D - Em G - B7 - Em - CC - Am - D7 - G! ! ! C - Dm - Em - C ! ! ! C - F - G - CD - A - G - D! ! ! ! D - Bm - G - DE - A - G - D! ! ! ! E - G - D - A

The F and the Bm chords are barre chords below:

Against the Wind - Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band INTRO & BRIDGE: G|G|G|G VERSE 1: G|G It seems like yesterday, Bm|Bm but it was long ago. C| G| Janey was lovely; she was the queen of my nights. D| C| There in the darkness with the radio, playing low. G|G And the secrets that we shared, Bm|Bm the mountains that we moved, C| G| Caught like wildfire out of control C| D|D| till there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove. Pre-Chorus: Em D| G| And I remember what she said to me. Em C| G| How she swore that it never would end. Em D| C| I remember how she held me, oh so tight. C| D| Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then. CHORUS: G| Bm| C| G| Against the wind. We were running against the wind. C Bm| Am C| G|G|G|G We were young and strong, we were running against the wind. VERSE2: And the years rolled slowly past. And I found myself alone. Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends. I found myself further and further from my home. And I guess I lost my way. There were oh, so many roads. I was living to run, and running to live, Never worrying about paying, or even how much I owed.

C D

So, so you think you can tell,

Am G

Heaven from Hell, blue skys from pain.

D C Am

Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail, a smile from a veil,

G

Do you think you can tell?

C D

And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts,

Am G D

Hot ashes for trees, hot air for a cool breeze, cold comfort for change,

C Am G

And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

Em G Em G Em A Em A

C D

How I wish, how I wish you were here.

Am G D

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,

C

Running over the same old ground. What have we found?

Am G

The same old fears. Wish you were here!

Em G Em G Em A Em A G

KODACHROME (Paul Simon) ----------------------- [This song has a lot of dropped beats (3/4 measures in the midst of a 4/4 song); the best way I can think of to mark them is simply by putting an asterisk (*) after the chord symbol when it happens.] [Each chord is a full measure, except pairs of chords joined by hyphens (e.g., Em - A7) are one measure total.] [Actually in E; capo 2.] D D A A Em A7 D D Em - A7 [intro] D - Dmaj7 D7 G G When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school Em A7* D Em - A7 It's a wonder I can think at all D - Dmaj7 D7 G G And though my lack of educa - tion hasn't hurt me none Em A7 D D7 I can read the writing on the wall G - B7 E7 Kodachro - o - ome Am D G C They give us those nice bright colors, they give us the greens of summers A D G - B7* E7 Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah Am D G C I got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph A D G Bm Em A So Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away If you took all the girls I knew when I was single And brought them all together for one night I know they'd never match my sweet imagination And everything looks worse in black(*) and white Kodachro-o-ome They give us those nice bright colors, they give us the greens of summers Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah I got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph A D G Bm Em Em So Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away G Bm Em Em Mama don't take my Kodachrome away G Bm Em Em Mama don't take my Kodachrome away G Bm Em Em Mama don't take my Kodachrome away [repeat G Bm Em Em through ending] Mama don't take my Kodachrome, Mama don't take my Kodachrome Mama don't take my Kodachrome away Mama don't take my Kodachrome, leave your boy so far from home Mama don't take my Kodachrome away Mama don't take my Kodachrome, oo-ee-oo-mmmmmm Mama don't take my Kodachrome away [instrumental ending...] - transcribed by Adam Schneider, http://adamschneider.net/
