Sonatrach, An
International Gas Dimension
50 Years of Support to National Development
Sonatrach is asserting its gas vocation year after year.
Given the richness of the Algerian subsoil, the investments that have been made, as well as the involvement of its human resources and the role it has been playing in the supply of international markets, Sonatrach is today considered as the first Mediterranean gas company.
Hassi R’Mel, a prestigious name, is one of the largest gas deposits in the world, and, indeed, not to forget In Salah, Ohanet, Tin Fouyé Tabenkort, Rhourde Nouss, Hamra and Alra, to mention only the largest.
A significant Potential
Seeking a better value and diversifying outlets through integration in gas downstream, are the key words of the Algerian gas export policy. The development of the “TSGP” and “Galsi” projects, the Medgaz line “gas in” in 2011, directly linking Algeria to Spain, the leasing of an additional capacity in the Isle of Grain terminal and the extension of the “Enrico Mattei” gas pipeline have boosted Sonatrach export capacity, thus providing significant additional export volumes to supply Europe. As regards LNG, Sonatrach has launched 02 new liquefaction trains, one in Skikda and a second train in Arzew.

SIGNIFICANT GAS RESERVES FIELdS OPERATEd by SONATRAcH
Hassi R’Mel, one of the largest gas fields in the world, accounts for 60% of the total primary production in Algeria, or 92 billion m³.
In addition to the giant field of Hassi R’Mel, Sonatrach operates other fields such as Rhourde Nouss, Alrar, Gassi Touil and Tin Fouye Tabankort.
FIELdS OPERATEd IN PARTNERSHIP
Natural gas production in partnership contributes some 22% of the volume of gas produced in Algeria, or 34 billion m³.
- In Salah is operated in partnership with bP and Statoil;- Ohanet is operated in partnership with bHP billiton;- In Amenas is operated in partnership with bP and Statoil- Tin Fouye Tabankort is operated in partnership with Total and Repsol- Hamra is operated in partnership with Total
GAS DISPATCHING NATIONAL CENTRE (cNdG)
The NcdG is located in Hassi R’Mel. This is where gas gathering and dispatching is made through gas pipelines to local (Sonelgaz, third-party clients and self-consumption of Sonatrach units) and international customers (delivery to liquefaction complexes and transcontinental pipelines: PEDRO DURAN FARELL, ENRICO MATTEI and MEDGAZ).

THE MAIN EXPORT ROUTES OF NATURAL GAS
Natural gas pipelines form the cornerstone of the natural gas marketing policy. This policy is centered on three objectives:
• Diversifying outlets• Seeking valorizing markets • Selecting the less capital intensive form of export
The pipeline transportation network has 14 pipelines with a total length of 8629 km, with a carrying capacity of 142 billion cm / year.

THE GALSI PIPELINE
Project of a direct line linking Algeria to Italy via Sardinia
Referred to as «GALSI», the company is in charge of the achievement and operation of the Algeria – Italy, via Sardinia, gas pipeline project. The pipeline will supply Italy, Southern France and European countries north of the Alps.
TRANS-SAHARAN GAS PIPELINE TSGP
Project of a direct line linking Nigeria to Algeria.
The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) is a pipeline intended to supply natural gas to European marketsfrom the «Niger delta» region in Southern Nigeria, via Niger and Algeria, and then through a submarine pipe that will cross the Mediterranean.
