TABLE OF CONTENTS

NEED TO KNOW: Actual product samples provide the most accurate representation of color and should be used for purchase decision making. Printed photographs and color swatches are provided for reference and

comparison, but due to the natural variations in wood and the limitations of commercial printing, your new floor will vary in appearance from any samples or pictures shown.

PART OF THE BEAUTY OF YOUR NEW FLOOR IS THAT IT’S PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA

We believe customers choose hardwood flooring for a variety of reasons. Some simply love the incomparable beauty and design versatility of real wood. Many appreciate that it adds value to their property. While others choose wood because it’s sustainable and eco-conscious.

We trust you will choose Somerset because we have the stylish looks you want, and the quality and value you expect. We also hope one of the reasons you decide to buy Somerset is that it’s made in the USA, from Appalachian hardwoods, by dedicated American workers who take pride in what they do. Thanks to the support of ourcustomers, we have enjoyed great success and growth over the years. We continueto expand our capabilities and capacity to bring you a wide variety of flooringstyles to make your home beautiful. We sincerely appreciate your consideration and business and hope you enjoy your new Somerset floor.

Aptly named “American Country,” we developed this collection to answer the many requests we’ve received

for character-rich, subtly scraped hardwood flooring that’s made in America. Hand scraping is a technique that customizes selected pieces of flooring, and is more labor

intensive to produce than smooth hardwood flooring styles. With the rustic scraped look gaining popularity in the last

several years, imports entered the U.S. market at very competitive prices. While we heard from many American

homeowners that they loved the look, they didn’t love that the products weren’t made in the USA. We listened, and

have made a major investment in the tools, efficient manufacturing techniques, and skilled craftspeople to offer the look and value demanded by our customers,

all made by Somerset in the USA.

APPALACHIAN SPECIES: Red Oak, White Oak

Somerset is a true full line manufacturer, offering solid and engineered flooring in a variety of species, colors, and styles. Recently customers have been asking us to

provide a collection of solid flooring with not only eased edges, but eased ends, as well (our standard solid flooring styles have an eased edge/square end profile). We listened, and now you have the option

of solid flooring with a four-sided eased edge profile in a full range of colors. At Somerset we pride ourselves on listening to what our customers want and finding

ways to exceed their expectations.

In recent years, the popularity of rustic flooring has grown. We think it’s because of the increasing desire to bring

natural beauty into our spaces. It took several years for us to develop our Character Collection to ensure the authentic representation of naturally occurring knots, mineral streaks, and markings that would meet our customers’ expectations.

Today this is one of our most popular collections.

looking for something a little different. We now offer hickory and maple in both solid and engineered construction.

AT SOMERSET, ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY IS ABOUT INVESTING IN ACTIONS…NOT WORDS Somerset has been a green company before being

“green” became popular. We don’t spend our time and money on ads bragging about our eco-responsible practices. Instead we believe our resources are more wisely spent investing in ways to become more environmentally conscious.

Here are some of the reasons you can feel good about buying Somerset products:

Full-Time Forestry Staff We employ a full-time forestry staff to sustainably

manage the timberlands we own, and to work to insure best forestry management practices with independent foresters and sawmills from which we purchase lumber. Our foresters create 100-year plans for the forest we own. Our lumber comes from approximately a 150-mile radius of our manufacturing facilities.

“Waste Not” Philosophy Somerset has a “Waste Not” philosophy, which means

we use every part of the tree. Excess wood fiber and sawdust generated through our manufacturing operations goes to fuel our plants or to the manufacture of Somerset Wood Pellet bio fuel. This reduces our country’s dependency on fossil fuels and helps our environment.

“Engineered” Flooring Goes a Long Way Somerset now manufactures 1/2” engineered flooring

in random lengths with a sawn face that duplicates the look of a solid floor. So lumber that would be used to produce one 3/4” solid piece of flooring produces four or five face veneers for engineered flooring. It’s another way we conserve our natural resources while allowing customers to enjoy the beauty and benefits of real wood.

Feel good about buying Somerset. We are a privately owned company,

dedicated to bringing you the best quality while strictly adhering to best forest management practices. We are an FSC certified company and are supporters of the following industry organizations:

“ Our customers have sent a clear message to us that they want to buy American-made products. We have made major investments in our manufacturing operations that allow us to meet demand with a wide variety of products made by Somerset right here in the USA. We are committed to continuing to provide our customers with the products they want and the value they expect from Somerset.”

—Steve Merrick, CEO, Somerset Companies

www.ppg.com/woodcoatingsAt Somerset, we have a pretty simple approach

to doing business...we just try to do the right things for our customers, our employees, and our

environment. It also meanswe are committed to

growing manufacturingin the USA.

OUR MADE IN AMERICA INITIATIVESomerset’s Made in America Initiative means we are committed to making the best quality products at the best prices here in the USA—it’s really that simple. We are continually evaluating and investing in quality improvement processes and the necessary facilities, equipment, and people to allow us to deliver the greatest value to our customers. Beginning in 2012, all Somerset flooring is made in the USA. And we are very proud of that.

Somerset is a privately owned, vertically integrated forest products company—and one of the largest manufacturers of Appalachian lumber and hardwood flooring in the U.S. We own and manage timberlands and are one of the largest lumber buyers in our region. With multiple manufacturing plants in Kentucky and Tennessee, we continue to expand capabilities and capacity to meet demand. By being vertically integrated, we are able to manage the entire manufacturing process, ensuring consistent quality control that produces the finest products, while making the best use of our natural resources.

34 www.somersetfloors.com 35

You get the Incomparable Beauty of Appalachian Hardwood Species All Somerset flooring (both 3/4” solid and the face

layer of our engineered flooring) is manufactured from Appalachian species of red oak, white oak, maple, hickory, walnut, or American cherry. Some of the finest lumber in the world comes from the Appalachian Mountain region of the United States, where Somerset is located. The lumber is considered superior because of the benefits inherent in the location and the land. The climate is a main factor in producing the naturally superior quality—the area’s warm summers and cool spring and fall seasons insure that the growth of the trees is gradual. Slower growing trees results in tight growth rings, consistent grains, and strong fibers that lead to strength, durability, and beauty.

We Don’t Mix Red and White Oak Red and white oak are both beautiful, durable

hardwoods, especially Appalachian oak. Both have unique color variations and characteristics, and they take stain differently. One of the main advantages of not having species mixed within your floor is for better color consistency now, and should you ever need or choose to have your floor sanded and refinished in the future. To give you the best looking, best performing oak flooring, we do not mix the two species.

We Apply One of the Thickest Aluminum Oxide Urethane Finishes on the Market Somerset’s Ultimate™ Finish is an advanced UV-cured

formulation of aluminum oxide and urethane. Our proprietary multi-step finishing process protects your floor with a thick, durable shield that is resistant to wear and provides exceptional gloss retention. In addition, we implement a full fill face operation in our finishing process. This important step seals the pores of the wood, resulting in a smoother, more consistent surface onto which we apply the remaining finish coats. The final flooring has a durable easy-care finish that enhances the natural beauty of the wood and is built for lasting

performance in your home. Depending on the Collection you choose, Somerset flooring is available in low gloss, satin, and high gloss finishes to give you the look you want. We guarantee the finish will not wear through for 50 years (25 years for Value and Southern Antiques Collections).

Somerset’s Limited Warranty is one of the Strongest in the Industry with a 50-Year Finish Wear Layer Warranty We feel that no other hardwood flooring in the industry

is manufactured to higher quality standards than a Somerset hardwood floor. All the flooring presented in this brochure is backed by our Lifetime Structural Warranty; in addition, our 50-Year Finish Wear Layer Warranty provides assurance that the surface finish layer will not wear through or separate from the wood for 50 years from the original date of purchase (Value Collection and Southern Antiques Collection carry a 25-year Finish Wear Layer Warranty). Some exclusions and conditions apply, so please ask your dealer for a copy of our limited warranty, or visit www.somersetfloors.com for complete warranty details.

Multi-ply cross grain construction for greater dimensional stability

SOMERSET OFFERS SOLID AND ENGINEERED FLOORING THAT GIVES YOU THE PREFERRED LOOK.

Somerset manufactures our collections from Appalachian hardwood lumber. The natural conditions that create the Appalachian Mountains’ magnificent scenery also produce some of the world’s most beautiful hardwoods.

Whether you choose Somerset’s 3/4” solid flooring, or 1/2” engineered flooring—you get the same beautiful look. The thick solid top layer of our 1/2” engineered flooring is identical in appearance to our solid flooring (actually cut from a solid block of Appalachian lumber, as is our solid flooring). The main difference is that our engineered flooring is supported with cross-grain construction to give you versatility in installation (install virtually anywhere in your home).

With Somerset, you can install either solid or engineered flooring—or both—in your home, and only you and your contractor will know which it is.

The patterns and color variations created in a living tree are like all of nature—never repeated. Naturally occurring wood characteristics such as mineral streaks, knots, and variations in grain and color, are not considered defects. Also, all hardwood flooring will undergo color changes over time and with exposure to light. As a result of these natural characteristics, as well as the limitations of printing, your newly installed Somerset floor will vary from samples or pictures shown.

NATURAL BEAUTY MEANS NATURAL VARIATIONS CHOOSE SOLID OR ENGINEERED FLOORING TO MEET YOUR INSTALLATION NEEDS
