SIM and E-Business Suite Summary

• Several clients have chosen to implement SIM while already having E-Business Suite Inventory in place. Following are the primary reasons for implementing SIM to manage serialised inventory at the location level rather than EBS inventory

Real-time stock visibility EBS can support real-time stock visibility but customers have found the process cumbersome and complex which could lead to inaccuracy of inventory. Also, security problems in terms of who has visibility to stock, who can issue transfers, etc…

SIM has out of box web services to accept sales information from external POS and JMS API’s for inventory adjustments, transfers, and receipts. Web services also available for serial number validation of items

Inter Branch Transfers Inter-branch transfers in EBS are supported thru the automatic creation of invoice/PO to consolidate the transfer and workarounds are required for managing in-transit stock. Difficulty in splitting the financial flows from the physical flows to track transfers.

SIM manages interbranch transfers along with requests, approvals, dispatching, and receiving. SIM offers a number of different stock buckets for transfer in, transfer out, expected IN, etc…

Problem line and mobile stock counts

EBS does not support running on handheld devices for real-time stock counting and problem line stock counting

SIM configuration allows rules to automatically trigger stock counts depending on certain criteria for certain product groups. Additionally, mobile SIM can be used for stock counting within a location
