Solo Business Must-Havesonewomanshop.com | @onewomanshop
We asked members of One Woman Shop (a resource hub + community for female solopreneurs + freelancers) to tell us their solo business must-haves. Here are their answers.

An almost supernatural ability to stay organized!

The freedom to pick up and go (and work from) whenever I want...and the tech-savvy and resources and drive to actually do just that at a moment's notice.

1. A great pillow so I can sleep well and wake up refreshed
2. My laptop to be my hub of my life3. A large desk for elbow room4. Coffee to get me started in the morning5. A group of people I trust to take business with like
bounce ideas and vent6. My running shoes because running helps me
clear my mind so I can focus

I would say the one thing you need is hired help here and there or interns. There is so many hats you have to wear when running a business and you are not an expert in all those fields so its very important to figure out who you need to pay to get certain tasks done for you, so you don't go insane trying to do it all on your own.

Music!!
I can't work with out some background music on at my desk in my home office. Funnily enough I usually listen to a station called New Year's Eve Cocktail Party on Jango when I need intense concentration :)

A beautiful workspace! I used to switch between the kitchen table and a really small desk and I was miserable. It's made a huge difference to have a designated + well designed and functional desk + office area.
Also couldn't do without Wave - free accounting software online. I hate absolutely this part of the business, but it makes keeping track of invoices and expenses so easy, AND it's free.

You need to know your top strengths and shortcoming. That way, you can shine with the tasks you know you are great at and where you weaknesses come into play, you have a couple options: learn how to do it better or enlist someone who is strong with these tasks to take them over for you..
And, of course, some funky office flair and really fun (and professional, of course) business cards for networking!

My must haves include the Whitney English Day Designer (heavy and pricey but worth it!), my external hard drive full of client work, some Poppin pens, and subscriptions to Spotify, Hulu Plus and Netflix!

1. A window2. A great chair - for reading, emails, keeping
books3. "Regular" hours - including some TIME OFF 4. Lunch breaks, which may be a walk, a stretch, a
meal5. Other one-woman shop owners to talk to - for
support, encouragement, advice6. A sense of humor - and this may be the most
important one!

I love using Tweetdeck to keep up with Twitter, and Buffer to schedule posts. They make social media so much easier to manage.
On a more fun note, I couldn’t do without my little group of entrepreneur friends! All of us who freelance or run a business love to grab coffee every few weeks to catch up and trade ideas. It’s a great way to keep from going insane when you work mostly alone!
-Ashley Brooks, Brooks Editorial

Does a super supportive husband
count? I honestly don't think I could
do all this without him!

A good printer & scanner. I use a Canon Pixma scanner and copier and it does the job and is economical.
