Booking Procedures

Please complete one booking form for each setting.

It is important that you complete the form in full. If you do not supply all the information required your booking may be delayed. Once the booking form has been received, we will process it, and course confirmation will be sent back to you via the email address you provide on the booking form.

Ways to Pay

All courses are subject to a charge unless otherwise stated.

If no payment is required with your booking, you can email your form to [email protected]. Please ensure that this form has been signed by the setting leader/manager.

Payment by invoice

We will invoice the setting for payment following receipt of the completed booking form.

Payment by cheque

Payment can be made by cheque. Please complete a booking form and return it along with payment to the address below:

If your setting is based in a school and you are able to pay by journal, please supply us with the cost centre on your booking form.

If your setting/school does not pay for courses on time you may be prevented from booking onto or attending other courses until the outstanding payment is settled.

Attendance Policy

Confirmation of place(s) will be emailed to the setting. If you have not received course confirmation please do not send practitioners to

the course as they will be turned away. This is due to restrictions on the number of participants that we are able to have in each venue.

Sessions will start promptly at the stated time so please ensure that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the course.

Late attendees may not be able to join the course. The expectation is that participants will complete the whole session or course. If

it is necessary to leave early prior arrangements should be made with Early Years and Education Improvement Service.

If a participant is unable to attend a course the process is as follows:

Notify Early Years and Education Improvement Service that they are unable to attend, at least 5 working days prior to the course date. Unfortunately if a member of staff is unable to attend on the day of the course and you are not able to send a replacement we will not be able to refund or transfer the cost of the course.

You may transfer a place to another member of staff providing that the replacement member of staff is eligible to attend the course, i.e. has a job role that is appropriate for the training.

Changes or cancellations must be emailed to [email protected] at least 5 working days prior to the course date. You may telephone to notify us of changes or cancellations however these must also be confirmed by email before the course is due to take place.

First Aid course payments are non-refundable and non-transferable as this is delivered by external providers.

Failure to attend the course without prior written notice will be treated as a cancellation and no refund will be given.

Refunds

Refunds of any course costs will only happen in the following circumstances:

We have cancelled the course. We have changed the venue, date or time of the course and participants are unable

to make the new date, time or venue. Exceptional circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.

Food Awareness £26 per personProviders must be confident that those responsible for preparing and handling food are competent to do

Paediatric First Aid £57 per personPlease note that this training is provided by First Response First Aid Company, Solihull’s preferred provider

At least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. The certificate must be a full course consistent with the criteria set out in Annex A. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a full current PFA certificate. Providers should take into account the number of children, staff and layout of premises to ensure that a paediatric first aider is able to respond to emergencies quickly.

All newly qualified entrants to the early years workforce who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification on or after 30 June 2016, must also have either a full PFA or an emergency PFA certificate within 3 months of starting work in order to be included in the required staff: child ratios.

Target Audience

The Paediatric First Aid 12 hour course is primarily aimed at those working in child-care settings, but it will be useful for anyone with responsibility for caring for infants and children.

Course overview

The Paediatric First Aid course is a two-unit award, comprising:

Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First AidUnit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury

Please Note: Unit 1 of this Paediatric First Aid course meets the requirements of the 1 day emergency first aid course.

Content/Learning Outcomes

Unit 1 covers the following topics: the role of the paediatric first aider dealing with emergencies management of an unconscious casualty management of a casualty who is not breathing normally CPR (baby, child & adult

procedures) management of a casualty who is choking recognition and management of anaphylaxis management of a casualty who is in shock management of a casualty who has a bleeding wound

It also provides the opportunity to practise the skills needed to administer first aid to an infant, child or adult who is:

unconscious not breathing choking bleeding from a wound and in shock

Unit 2 covers the following topics: dealing with chronic medical conditions and sudden illness

o diabeteso sickle cello meningitiso asthma

dealing with the effects of extreme heat and coldo hypothermiao heat exhaustiono heat stroke

management of casualty with suspected fracture and dislocation management of casualty with head, neck or spinal injury dealing with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose dealing with minor injuries dealing with electric shock dealing with burns and scalds dealing with poisoning dealing with bites and stings records and reporting

It also provides the opportunity to practise the skills needed to administer first aid to an infant, child or adult who:

Safeguarding for Designated Leads £32 per person

Governing bodies, boards of trustees, registered providers and proprietors (including management committees) must ensure that they comply with their safeguarding duties under legislation. They must ensure that the policies, procedures and training in their early years settings, schools or colleges are effective and comply with the law at all times. (Inspecting safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings, August 2016)

Target Audience:Designated leads for safeguarding in PVI early years and childcare settings, registered providers, proprietors, committee members. Please note this is a repeat of the course run last term.

Setting-based Workshops £12.50 per person

Length: 1hr 30mins

About the workshops:These short workshops are designed to provide an opportunity for professional development for all practitioners in the setting. The benefits of training within the setting mean that practitioners have an opportunity to work together in the context of the environment and resources that are used by children on a day to day basis. The workshops can be delivered at a time that is convenient for your setting. Settings with multiple locations may join together in one venue if that is more convenient. Childminders may wish to join together with other childminders if a suitable venue can be sourced (we are happy to hold training in a childminder’s home), or alternatively may wish to ask a local setting if they can join their training session.

The minimum number for a workshop is 3 people.

I have chosen the courses that I would like staff to attend – what should I do next?You should complete the booking form and send it back to [email protected] with payment if necessary.

When will my form be processed?All booking forms are processed strictly in date order of receipt. At peak times it may take some time before you hear from us. If you do wish to check we have received your form, please contact us by email.

What if the courses I want are fully booked?We will endeavour to offer you an alternative date where possible. If not, your details will be put on the waiting list and you will be contacted when another course or space becomes available.
