Gas Sampling SystemCustomer ChallengeA manufacturer of heavy equipment requires heat treatment ofall steel components; a lengthy process that requires specificmetallurgical measurements. Pneumadyne engineers werecontacted to assist in the development of a method to samplegases and ensure consistent heat treatment of steel parts.
Pneumadyne SolutionTo accommodate various sizes of heat-treat furnaces,Pneumadyne engineers designed a modular valve bank con-sisting of four solenoid valves with stainless steel internals.The modular design allows the number of valve banks toincrease or decrease based upon the required number of testpoints in the continuous heat-treat process. When required, acomputer signals the solenoid to pull a sample of the gasesthrough a filter and route to a laser based detector module foranalysis. After the test is complete, the computer signals thesolenoid to shut off, reroute the sample to the next location andpurge the system with nitrogen back to the furnace to clean thesample tube of contaminents. The abilityto test during the heat treat processenables the gases and temperatureto be adjusted immediately, guaran-teeing consistency and decreasingthe number of rejects. Real timesampling has also reduced heattreatment from 24 hours to 18hours, saving time and loweringgas consumption.

Acrylic ManifoldsPneumadyne acrylic manifolds are the ideal solution for theintegration of multiple components in complex circuits. Multiplestation manifolds are available to compliment our solenoid andmanual valve offering.
Fluid circuit dynamics are improved by taking a customerschematic and designing a series of paths or channels that arethen machined into layers of acrylic or other thermoplastic.Through a proprietary process, the layers are stacked and sol-vent bonded resulting in a medical grade, particle free structure.
Tubing free, multi-layer, crystal clear manifolds provide the enduser with many advantages such as greatly reduced assemblytime, pre-assembled easy to test sub-assemblies, design modu-larity across equipment lines, elimination of the need to designcomponent mounting hardware, reduced work-in-process andinventory items, and reduced assembly, service and customertraining. This technique also prevents leaking because thereare no tubes, fittings or interconnections. Ideal unit-to-unit con-sistency is achieved and there is a higher visibility of functiondue to the clarity of the part.

Materials CompatibilityOccasionally lubricants or contaminantsfound in compressed air systems canattack material used in the manufacture
of these components, resulting in prod-uct failure. The installer should ensurecomponent materials are compatible withthe system.High Pressure LevelCompressed air systems are under ahigh level of pressure. Any attempt toconnect, disconnect or repair these com-ponents under these circumstancescould result in serious personal injury.Disconnect and vent all pressuresources prior to removal.Code CompliancePneumadyne strongly advises that allinstallation and repair of components beperformed by FPS certified personnel.The installer is cautioned to observe allelectrical, mechanical and other codesapplicable to the installation and opera-tion of these products. Repair & ConversionComponents are required to be checkedfor leakage and proper function prior toinstallation and operation if they havebeen disassembled for repair or if theirconfiguration has been altered.
