A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon moves into the Earth’s shadow. This only happens during a full moon. Everyone on Earth sees the lunar eclipse when it occurs.

• Tides result from the pull of gravity on the earth, between the earth and moon and between the earth and the sun. The gravitational pull of the sun on the earth is about 178 times stronger than the gravitational pull on the earth from the moon. However, because of the moon’s close location to the earth, when compared to the sun, the tidal pull by the moon is over twice that of the sun.
