SOME FACTS ABOUT MUSSOORIE Located at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level,

Mussoorie, is sprawled over a horse - shoe shaped ridge. Easily accessible from Delhi, Mussoorie is one of the prime hill resorts of the country. It offers some breathtaking views of the snow clad Himalayan peaks of Western Garhwal as well as of the Dehradun Town below. It was in the 1820s, that the area was 'discovered' by Captain Young. It grew in popularity amongst the British officials, who craved for some respite from the heat and grime of the plains. By the mid - 19th century, Mussoorie became a flourishing hill station, with its famous Mall.

My family and two other families from our locality went there as a group. We stayed at the J.P. Residency Manor, a famous Resort owned and operated by the Jai Prakash Group of Companies.

It is a wonderful Resort and offers all the facilities of a 5 Star Hotel. It has a swimming pool where we all swam; A games arcade where me and my local friends played some games; A gymnasium where my mother did her workout; A spacious lobby and a beautiful terrace garden. We all had a jolly good time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

Here are some of the pictures which I want to share with you about that place …

THE MALL Every hill station generally has a mall which is the

designated shopping area. The mall at Mussoorie is amongst the best in our Country. It is clean, very well maintained with rows of shops on either side. It also has the famous Cambridge Book Depot which is co-owned by the world renowned author – Mr. Ruskin Bond who wrote many books & short stories like “The Road to Mussoorie”, “The Room of Many Colours” to name a few.

Here are some of the pictures of the Mall & of my date with Mr. Ruskin Bond …

THE ROPEWAY CABLE CAR One of the major attractions of

Mussoorie is the ‘Ropeway’. It is 400 mtrs. in length and connects the Mall to the Gun Hill. A ride in the Ropeway cable car is a must for all the tourists.

THE GUN HILL The high point of our visit to Mussoorie was the short

but memorable time that we spent at ‘Gun Hill’. Situated at an altitude of 2142 mtrs. above sea level, ‘Gun Hill’ offers magnificiant and panoramic views of Mussoorie & the snow clad peaks of Garhwal Hills. Unfortunately it was very cloudy and we had to miss out on the view. However, we had a great time nevertheless and ate steaming hot noodles to our heart’s content.

Here are some of the pictures we took at ‘Gun Hill’ which I’m sharing with you …
