H.O.T. SOCRATIC SEMINAR SELF ASSESSMENT expectations of myself: I will try to not break into “lecture” mode and follow MYD procedures and limit my questions

expectations for you: You are expected to follow MYD rule. You are expected to TALK whenneeded. You are expected to READ when needed. You are expected to WRITE when needed.Do not make eye contact with the teacher but with each other. (the one who previously talked) You will be expected to be silent during points. Your grade will be based on the questions/activities done below. You can skip around if you need to but all must be done to get a 100. Your paper must be set up like the instructions. Your questions must be “Why”,“How”, “Do you think?”! Please read the suggested subtitles before coming up with your questions. This will be done the same way as the past as far as how the Socratic Seminar goes. But I had to change procedure because a lot of real good kids were not doing well solely because of them not getting a chance to talk. OH ALMOST FORGOT, don't start off a sentence with “BECAUSE” and use the posters on the wall. *DO THE SAME WAY AS BEFORE BUT THIS IS THE NEW HANDOUT AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO WRITE DOWN QUESTIONS

LEVEL 1 GATHERING

-Write a 5 sentence paragraph throughout the class describing what you learned. It must be specific. (No “abouts”)-Which of your classmates is participating a lot today?-Write one thing you learned from your classmates. -Write a question that one of your peers had today. -Describe the tone of one of your classmates’voice as they ask their questions.-Pick one of your classmates and do a bubble map describing their performance today using adjectives such as “confident voice”, “polite,” etc. (4-5 bubbles)-What mistakes, misunderstandings, or successes did you have today?

LEVEL 2 PROCESSING

-Which one of your classmates could you relate to the most today? (based on questions, answers, or comments)-Make an analogy either on paper for the quiet folks or vocally for you extroverts. ( I will sign off in this spot if you say it)-Pick any two classmates and do a venn diagram based on their questions, answers, comments. -What could be learned from the reading that was not directly stated? Explain.-Draw a picture of something you learned today.

LEVEL 3 APPLYING

-Who do you think had the best questions today? Explain and be specific. (2 sentences)-Who do you think had the best answers/comments? Explain and be specific. (2 sentences)-What do you predict others learned from today's Socratic Seminar? -If any of the people from the reading were here, how might they view your questions, answers, comments? Explain.-Overall, what content was the most relevant (important) in today's society?

* you are a great group of students and I appreciate the fact that you have an openmind and“put up” with my crazy new strategies!
