• How much time do you have?
• What will you share?
• Who should see it?
• Do you want to promote it?
Tech Issues
• No coding required for basic setup• Controlling your content–Where will it be stored?–What backup options do you need?–Who has access to it?
• Marketing – search engines, etc.

Tips & Terms
• Timeline: useful for clipping out extra sections, or matching sound files

• Title: make sure it is easy to read
• Audio: record separately, add later
• Screen Ratio: widescreen? What size video does your camera make?
Tech Issues
• Length: some free hosts have limits
• Size: transitions & effects add to size
• Format: check the camera, editor, and website for requirements
• Backup: save your source files and full project along with the final cut
Marketing
• Look at your “channel” options
• Add full descriptions (can’t search the video itself, so your text matters)
• Embed your videos on your website
• Upload again to facebook
Why do a Podcast?
• Tours (Museums, cities, etc.)
• “Radio” Show – topical, interviews, etc.
• News – NPR stories, for example• Law Enforcement – get updates on local
issues
Recording Tools
• Software– For Macs: GarageBand– Free: Audacity
• Hardware– Built in microphone (background noise)– External (power/quality)– Pop filter
Planning & Recording
• Scripted vs. unscripted (outline?)
• Take your time! pacing matters
• Editing: same programs as recording–Multiple takes, split tracks– Clip out unnecessary sounds – Filter out background noise
Additional Tools
• Sound effects? (copyright issues)
• Exporting the files (mp3 “codec” etc.)
• Creating XML (iTunes subscriptions)– iTunes example (lots of details)– Fill-in form (no coding required)
