Think of it as a “comic book” version of your video – with titles, etc.

Tips & Terms

• Timeline: useful for clipping out extra sections, or matching sound files

• Transitions: fade in/out option

• Title: make sure it is easy to read

• Audio: record separately, add later

• Screen Ratio: widescreen? What size video does your camera make?

Tech Issues

• Length: some free hosts have limits

• Size: transitions & effects add to size

• Format: check the camera, editor, and website for requirements

• Backup: save your source files and full project along with the final cut

Marketing

• Look at your “channel” options

• Add full descriptions (can’t search the video itself, so your text matters)

• Embed your videos on your website

• Upload again to facebook

Podcasting

Why do a Podcast?

• Tours (Museums, cities, etc.)

• “Radio” Show – topical, interviews, etc.

• News – NPR stories, for example• Law Enforcement – get updates on local

issues

Recording Tools

• Software– For Macs: GarageBand– Free: Audacity

• Hardware– Built in microphone (background noise)– External (power/quality)– Pop filter

Planning & Recording

• Scripted vs. unscripted (outline?)

• Take your time! pacing matters

• Editing: same programs as recording–Multiple takes, split tracks– Clip out unnecessary sounds – Filter out background noise

Additional Tools

• Sound effects? (copyright issues)

• Exporting the files (mp3 “codec” etc.)

• Creating XML (iTunes subscriptions)– iTunes example (lots of details)– Fill-in form (no coding required)
