SOCIAL MEDIA FOR SCHOOL COMMUNICATION TRAINING A viable alternative communication and learning tool K2013237205 South Africa (PTY) LTD The vast majority of our schools and non-profit organisations are actively engaged in social media activity. However, more often than not, social media is managed by a small team and rarely based on a strategy. Our social media for schools course looks at the latest social media trends, data, case studies and tools, enabling Principals, Heads of Departments and Teachers to create a successful social media strategy and to integrate social media into areas such as: Learning, Teaching, Parents and Community engagements. Attendees will finish the 2 day training with the ability to confidently create a social media strategies, manage on-going activity, measure performance and benchmark success. Objective Our aim is to help Schools understand, embrace and effectively use Social Media as an alternative tool for communicating. Given that Social Media is so ubiquitous today, we believe that Schools have no other option but to also use this platform to communicate. An effective communication campaign is based on the psychology of social behaviors of its audience, therefore constant, direct and personalised engagement in schools is a “Big Deal”. Our rationale Given how the world has shifted to the digital age, it is our view that e-government is the only reality. “Social media creates a new dialogue, it takes the power of communications and messaging away from the mass media model and places it firmly into peer- to-peer, public discourse”, therefore to capture the attention of the audience, Social Media communication is a MUST Delegates will receive: - All training materials and manuals - A certificates of attendance - Get very well fed whilst you’re at the training - we provide light morning and mid-morning coffee breaks with snacks, a buffet- style lunch with refreshments - Attend a relatively small (maximum 20 participants) Social Media course that’s interactive, informative and fun E-mail: [email protected] www.phejanecommunications.co.za SPECIAL OFFER!!! About the course Leader Donald Phejane

This practical training session will focus on How to communicate eff ectively and effi ciently Donald is Head of Digital Media and Managing Director at Phejane Communications. His career in the training industry span over 10 years, working for local and international companies, occupying both junior and senior positions in the diff erent disciplines of these businesses, sales and marketing management, sponsorship, business development, customer service and digital marketing.

Throughout his career, Donald has worked with Government organization across all spheres (Local, Provincial, National

government and State Owned Enterprises) in South Africa and other SADC countries, this allowed him the opportunity to learn and understand Government Policies, Structures and Processes. He later made a move into the research and development space, focusing on “New Media Marketing and Communications”.

In 2008, he went out on his own and launched a training research and development Agency focusing mainly on New Media and its impact on business, completing research projects such as the development of South Africa’s fi rst ever “Social Marketing Colloquium (2008)” which focused on “Eff ective Government Communications”. Other Social and Digital Media projects included Social Media Marketing (2009-2012), Mobile Applications Marketing and Communications (2013). Search Engine Optimization and most recently South Africa’s fi rst ever “Gamifi cation and Augmented Reality Marketing and Communications”.

Donald’s life on the internet dates back to the year 2000, using social platforms where he learned and developed solutions using social Media as a tool of intervention for social and economic development in emerging markets. It is his personal belief that Social Media platforms existed way before Mark Zuckerberg could even think of creating Facebook, back then these platforms were better known as “Chat Rooms”, the diff erence is only that their functionalities were limited (understandably so).

His other interests include Social participation and Activism, spending most of his time blogging and writing opinion pieces on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. As a Youth Activist, he also researched and developed an ongoing “Youth and the Economy Colloquium” supported by the Mail & Guardian Newspaper and the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), which deals with Africa’s Youth participation in the
